 about me

Name's Diego. I'm 22 years old and a resident of Madison, WI. I'm one of those college guys.

Been playing video games for about as long as I can remember. My first was either Super Mario Bros or original Zelda on the NES, god only knows which. I spent many years as a child dreaming up brutal ways to take my revenge on that fucking laughing dog. Later on I graduated to a SNES, which was awesome but I was kinda ticked off that I couldn't see all the blood that Genesis owners got whenever they played Mortal Kombat. But since Street Fighter 2 was eons better anyway I didn't lose sleep over this one.

About that time I got into space sims. Wing Commander, the X-Wing series, Freespace... masterpieces as far as I'm concerned. I haven't really played Force Unleashed just because I'm so skeptical of LucasArts since IMO they haven't made a truly great game since TIE Fighter. I do so look forward to the inevitable resurrection of the space sim genre... maybe once people get over all this "Warcrack" business.

Yea, I'm not into MMOs, I think they're pretty much gaming's version of all those fucking reality shows that led to the cancellation of Firefly, Arrested Development, and other great shows like them.

I also really dig flight sims. The hardcore ones. But my PC sucks nowadays so can't run anything that isn't over 5 years old. It sucks but what're ya gonna do.

Final Fantasy VII was my first RPG and I've been a huge fan of JRPGs ever since '98. I've played just about all RPGs made by Square or Enix and later Squenix and also companies like Tri-Ace and whatnot. Probably my favorites are Xenogears and Final Fantasy Tactics. Although I think my favorite of the FF series is probably a tie between VI and IX. I was one of those cats a few years back d/ling ZNES Roms. Back before DeJap translated it I played Tales of Phantasia in Japanese using an English translation I had to print off the internet. Those were the days.

I skipped most of the 6th generation. I had a PS2 then but I only ever bought like 3 games for it (FF10, FF12, and MGS3... Metal Gear > you btw...). So now I'm retroactively playing the great games of that generation. Just now I'm working me merry ol' way through Okami and loving every minute of it.

Right now I've got an XBox 360. Yea, I defected over to Microsoft. I was pretty damn sure back in '01 or so that they would never last in this industry but eh, what the hell did I know. I picked up the 360 in December of '06, when the PS3 and the Wii were just getting started and had like no games, and the 360 had plenty of shit I wanted to play so I was like "Right on, I'll get a 360." I really actually dig it a lot, I think it most def has the edge in terms of software in this generation and software is what I'm all about.

Fuck the Wii and its "Wii Tennis" crap. It may be all fun and games now but I'm pretty much convinced that all this so called "casual gaming" is going to wipe us out in the end. I do dig the PS3, even though I don't own one. I think Sony's made some stupid stupid decisions this generation but it's still got a great piece of hardware on its hands. And I cry a little every day that I can't play MGS4.

Wrapping this up, I dig DToid. I like that you all are serious about gaming and know a thing or two the hobby. I'm a big proponent of video games as a new art form and I think I can find some like minded individuals here. Also, hopefully I can get hooked up with gamertags for XBL because frankly I'm sick to death of "Halo noobs" leaving me out to dry in Left 4 Dead.
