I want to start off by saying I am obsessed with Magic. I go almost every friday to Friday Night Magic to hang out with friends and test for big tournaments. I constantly scour the internet to try and find the latest tech to bring to Pro Tour Hollywood.
So with that out of the way we can get to the meat n' potatoes of this blog. I want to know who in this community is familiar with Magic? Are you obsessed like me, or am I alone on this front? I think Magic compliments gaming very well because of the atmosphere of the stories as well as the great community of Magic.
I love this game and I am proud to say I've spent way more money on Magic than I did on games within the last year. I'm having to change my pants every day I wake up and realize Pro Tour Hollywood is one day closer. So yeah I <3 Magic if ya couldn't already tell
Also, is anyone from Dtoid heading to Pro Tour Hollywood cuz if you are I'd like to meet the Dtoid community.
Also, do you actually have pro points to play in the tour in Hollywood or are you just going down there to absorb some of the good players mojo?
I dont have any pro points and truthfully the best I've done in the game is getting 3rd at a Pro Tour Qualifier. However the day before the Pro Tour there is a last chance qualifier where the top 4 gets to play in the Pro Tour. If I suck at that then there are TONS of awesome side events with awesome prizes over the next three days.
While some of what you said is true I've been able to play competitively on the budget of a 16yr old with no steady job. The games tournament structure is also mainly tournaments involving the latest sets so you don't have to own the great, Expensive cards of the past. Yes the best decks are usually the most expensive, but I'd say you could build most competitive decks today for under 100-@50 dollars.
If you have any recommendations on what someone new to the game should buy for starters, it would be appreciated, as I now have a few friends interesting in playing.
Also, do you know of a good way to play Magic on the computer (online or even against a computer, for learning purposes)? I downloaded Magic Online after reading something about a free server, but I couldn't find a way to access it if it exists.
I'll shoot you off a PM tomorrow with some suggestions but for now I need sleep :D
I friggin' love those Elementals.
