One of the most requested features to come with In-Game XMB was Voice Chat. However when 2.40 arrived, many people were disappointed to hear that it wouldn’t be featured with the update. Sony will deliver this addition sometime later this year, however they also hope to go one step further: In-Game Video Chat. And we’re not just talking about video chatting while you have the game paused. According to an inside source, In-Game Video Chat will enable you to video chat with a friend while actually playing your game. It will work in a similar fashion to BD-Live where there is a PiP (Picture in Picture) window in the top right corner of the screen so you can see your friend(s) while you chat with them. It’s unclear when exactly this will arrive but it should come via firmware update by the end of this year.

Not sure about other PS3 owners, but I was one of those people hoping this feature came with the 2.40 update. This would be the perfect update leading up to the long anticipated release of HOME. It would be awesome to see the expressions on my friends/foes face as I dominate in madden or 2k8 lol. Doesn't this feature simply own! SONY, BRING IT ON!
This feature would be great with some games, others not so much, like games that required a field of view. You have the option to turn it off and on so that won't be a problem. But, the bandwidth would be a problem, I'd like to see just how much it would effect a connection.
Not only a bandwidth hog, but a screen real estate hog. I don't care much if this were to come. Cross game voice chat would be cool, but I don't think I would use that though.
Wow... why would you need video chat? I mean, you're playing a VIDEO game, where you need to see the things that are happening on the screen. Might work in a lo-def game, where you could shift the game to the left, and stick the video chat box(es) on the right.
that's what we need, a fncking chat room that few ever join anyway and usually w/o eye camera. it is a requested feature but also a pointless one. people want it just to have it. i can't stand getting chat invites when i'm playing a game anyway, and if this comes to fruition then i'll get even more pointless chat invites from whomever w/o a camera that has no games to play. i don't want this, and am happy w/ communicating the regular way. i join chat rooms mostly just to chill, if i'm in a game, i'm in a game, leave me alone. just my opinion.
@Mushman: That's a screenshot of Resistance 2. It's the boss of the Chicago level in the game. The monster is over 300 feet tall. Think the "Cloverfield monster" and you get the general idea.
@Everyone Else: Sorry but I just never see this happening. Unless the resolution was just absolutely low, this would just be to much of a bandwidth hog as Shipero said. Never going to happen. However it would be freaking SWEET if it did!!!

Sounds interesting but wouldn't it be a bandwidth hog?
Shipero:
Yes. Yes, it would.
I don't want this to happen. Seeing Jimbo while playing Poker is more than enough.
Is that gears?... wtf
Good idea, but agreed, this would rape my bandwidth.
And theres nothing funny about rape.

Would be a nice addition, but it would be a bandwidth hog.
Something I could live without and yeah to the whole bandwidth holg thing.

how useless

Popping the video up now and then could be cool (like being able to gloat during replays), but having it constantly there would be annoying.
Shut the fuck up, Heretic. Its not funny anymore, and now you're just fucking trolling.
And jesus christ, no. Bandwidth hog, and it'd probably cover the in game HUD.

I just wanna know what game is that a screenshot of?
