I've taken time out of my day to venture into the most motliest holes of the internet, the SRK forums. For those who don't know, the SRK forums is the major internet hub for fighting fans, and it's also a very terrible place filled with people who ride their horses so high they float in space.
Now, I've seen a lot of good reasons not to buy KoF XII on SRK. It's menu system is shit, the fighting seems to basic, you don't like the sprites, you're not a fan of SNK, the online is broke, and a multitude of other reasons. I don't think any of them are as stupid as "KoF XII doesn't have Mai, so I'm not going to buy it." If that is the only reason you are not going to get a game, ANY GAME, because it lacks one character, a character that is put in more for sex appeal reasons now then gameplay, then you obviously don't want to play the game enough. At that point, you'd do better wanking one out on a hentai site then buying KoF XII, even if it had Mai. I'd like to see her to, but that sure as hell didn't prevent me from buying the game and it sure was not the prime reason I starting looking at it in the first place. At this point, I hope she doesn't come out as DLC either, just to spite these people.

Having said that, I agree that the "No Mai, No Buy" sentiment is kinda stupid. Then again, the last game I played with KoF characters involved beating them up with Ryu and his SF cohorts.
And the community is tight once you get use to it.

Ps. People still moan about third strike not having street fighter regulars so i expect the same from kof12. However i do think its retarded the no mai, no buy thing.
It isn't that people in the fighting game community have sticks up their asses, it is that these are sixty dollar games we are paying for here... this isn't just some game that we put a few quarters into a few times in the arcade.
Fans should be getting exactly what they want at that price point I think.
Oh wait, Mai... yeah it's sucha bitch that Mai's not there, but is not a huge deflater that she's not there at all. I mean, it is like removing Chun Li as mentioned above, but I think there is no REAL excuse to not buy it.
and as I said in topher's review, Mai's pretty basic compared to the actual KOF girls. Mai's a FF girl. Most people dumped Mai when Blue Mary hit the scene.
personally I dumped Mai for Kula and Vanessa. But you don't see me whining over neither of their inclusion. I'm moreso whining about paying 60 bucks for a half done game.
Mai being one of my mains, yeah im kinda bummed out, but i still bought it... But to not buy a fighting game cause the menus are crap? Well thats just plain fuckin idiocy...
That being said, this game is beautiful(in some ways better than BlazBlue) but is lacking about 3-9 characters I'd say. Where's Geese and K'?
