Of all places to look for the best of social commentary, YouTube is
not the place. I can't stop watching the
QuakeCon 2009 trailer of Rage tho. The characters shown in it look vibrant, the setting is colorful, and the dune buggies? Fucking awesome. I for one am creaming my jeans over Rage. Especially since it comes from id Software, a studio that has been quiet on the game front since 2004 with the release of Doom 3. (I'm not counting Quake Live. It's Quake 3. Yay.) id Software are the people that got me into gaming! My dad brought home Doom and I was hooked. Am I hyped? I'm hyped.
Like I said, I've been watching that trailer on YouTube, and some unseen force draws me down the page. Maybe it's the fact that I love to antagonize trolls and idiots. It's so easy to just laugh at them. However, blatant ignorance is something I cannot handle. If you immediately write something off due to similarities, you are a fucking tool.
You know where I'm going with this.
Rage, as you should know, is a post-apocalyptic game. Between the post-apocalyptic genre, you'll find several similarities that can be seen throughout the many facets that make up post-apoc fiction. Nuclear war, mutants, shanty towns. It's all been seen before. But for some odd reason,
people think Fallout 3 invented this shit. Rage is immediately being called out as a Fallout 3 knock off, or a blatant rip because mutants are mentioned or it takes place after some great disaster.
HELLO! This may shock you, but Fallout 3 did not invent the post-apocalyptic setting! You know what did? A novel from 1826 called
The Last Man. Or did that copy Fallout 3 too? Or maybe people are ignoring the fact that it's called Fallout
3 and that two amazing post-apoc games came before it. And even the rabid, over zealous fans of Fallout 1 and 2 are willing to admit something like that.
Because I feel like drawing this out further, I'm going to take a few comments that just ripped my soul in half because of such blind, stupid, retarded ignorance. I was floored by how dumb people are.
Wow, how original. Never seen anything like this before. No sir, a wasteland with mutants and thugs and the encla... sorry I meant "the authority" on the radio? This is blindingly original. I wonder if Apophis left any... dare I say it... Fallout? - Oh you ignorant fuckstick.
f3 with better graphic :P cant w8 to play it thou - I will rip that tongue right out of your God damn mouth.
This might have been a cool idea if only Bethesda hadn't already set the bar for this type of game setting with Fallout 3...nevermind, even if this had come out first, Fallout 3 would have still surpassed it, period.. - Another absolutely uniformed fucknut who thinks a rock and an orange are the same because they are both round.
Okay so this game does look good. However it is just a major ripoff of Fallout and other games. Another reason why EA is stupid and i dont buy their games. I personally cant wait for Fallout: New Vegas. - I can't wait for New Vegas either. I also can't wait for you to get hit by a bus. Oh wait, New Vegas is using Gamebryo...NEVERMIND!
yeah pretty much fallout did so well "idea" men figured why hurt their brains with actually coming up with something original...........sigh. - Because Bethesda didn't rip off the previous two Fallout games. See my point about not knowing that it's called Fallout 3.
I'm done here. I think I've done well enough a job in saying that the masses are dumber than a box of rocks.
Also, in before a pun about how much I rage.
I cant tell you how many times i've seen a video that has a song, and the song title is in the description, and someone will comment
" whats teh name of dis song plz i need to kno"
It also made me angry when I looked at a mass effect trailer, and 95% of the comments were stating that it had copied Halo.
Also, yeah the YouTube comments section is the best place to go if you ever want to give yourself an migraine.
You bastard. Lol
also! lets not forget the fact that Rage was announced and has been in production before Fallout 3 ever saw light of day to the public or even began production.
Its even better when people say 'god im sick of the post apoc genre, its been milked to death" <- that statement of all makes me lul to the moon. I wont post the list here, but throw down the fact that in the past 10 years there have been 6 titles with 10 releases in a 'post apoc' setting, compared to the 16 titles, and 57 games of world war 2 / modern military games. But I guess I can kind of understand it considering over the past 2 years post apoc has become the fast hot shit, as it should, its a dark humored and beautifully disgusting universe :D
I was going to say that I don't even read youtube comments anymore. I try to ignore what I have seen in there for the sake of my well-being.
It's so easy, reading comments about whatever it rips off is null and void to me.
o_O
I'll take that as a compliment as Louis Black is somewhat of an idol to me.
Therefore, I tend to completely ignore their existence.
