The possibility could be how fast paced the game looks, since the zombies are really fast and unpredictable (at least I think so).
It does look kinda generic, but at least it looks fun.
That, or it could be because it's Valve.

Well, based on the fact that I know you're getting tired of the whole zombie schtick, i can say what appeals to me is the fact that someone is finally doing a game where you just kill zombies. No incredibly deep plot behind it. No extra monsters that suddenly show up. Just pure zombie killing. People have been asking for it for a long time and Valve/Turtle Rock are finally delivering.
wtf zombies were awesome before this whole dumb "fad" with young kids came into play. If you're sick of zombies, then you're obviously a communist. Maybe even racist.
There, I said it.

Co-op.
If you haven't been part of a PC/xbox LAN or at least played a Co-op FPS with a friend, then you probably won't understand.

You ever played any co-op zombie mods? There's been a lot, but none of them that felt perfect. This is actually the first serious one to be coming out as a commercial product. And it looks like it may finally get most of the things right.
Also you wouldn't think the game is scary from watching videos, but if you are playing it in first person with zombies bearing down on you from all over, youl'd think different. The game looks very intensely paced, and my only worry is the controls are simple enough you can do everything you need to in a hurry.

Co-op most likely.
And Valve is making it, they're riding high on a big wave of hype after the Overrated box.

'Cause zombies are fucking scary as hell. And shooting them with friends is fun.
Also, how can you tell what the controls are like from that video?

Yeah, to reiterate, it's because of the four player coop mode in the game. Plus the game has been designed so every play through is different. There are no triggers in the game. There's a "director" that watches your performance so if you're getting your ass kicked, the zombies back off. But if you're doing really good, the zombies kick in.
It's the concept. It's a group survival game. You as a group surviving fast zombies that explode onto your location. And yes, that's scary.
It's also Valve. Have you played all of the games in the Orange Box? Tell me which one of those games is bad so I can drop kick your throat.

Kyousuke Nanbu, are you ever pleasant? You seem like the most jaded person in the world. What do you like?
I'm sure a little bit of polish & this is a sure gem!
Looks like Crazy Addictive Twitch gaming....
( Mmmmmm! )
Now we just need a PS3 port........ !

It's kind of like what 28 Days Later would be like if it was a game. 4 player survival co-op with unpredictable zombies running at you one after the other.
I'm not that excited about this game yet either but I must say it looks like a hell of a lot of fun

LAN co-op gaming is ridiculously fun. Sure, some levels for the original Half Life's Sven coop looked pretty average, but that didn't stop the game itself from being a blast.
Also, don't judge a horror game from gameplay videos. Wait till you actually play and find yourself jumping out of your seat because of something you did not see coming. ;)

Couple things.
1. It's being made by Valve. Even if you're new here, everyone is singing the praises of the Orange Box, so you should understand our favoritism towards Valve.
2. It's a zombie game on the Source engine, and with traditional zombies. No, Half-Life 2 isn't a zombie game.

I'm hopelessy addicted to zombie games, and I not once, ever complained about pre- Resident Evil 4 control schemes.
Maybe I'm just too easy...

Well Cheiftain...
I wouldn't call them completely traditional. Sure they're flesh-eaters, but the whole mutated-strain-of-rabies-makes-people-crazy thing is definitely a contemporary interpretation of the genre.

Alright, so I concede that thus far Valve has a fairly spotless record, and if that's enough for some hype, I'll buy that. I never said it looked bad, I was just confused about the massive excitement people had.
My comment on the controls was just a hunch I felt watching the video Sterling put up; it looked like the characters and their aiming were slippery.
@ZeroTolo: "No extra monsters that suddenly show up?" What would you call the ridiculously mutated zombie that looks like a monster gorilla? 'Cause I call it a sign that about halfway through the game Valve gets bored with good old fashioned zombies.

@ Tenro: It's called "The Tank", and it's one of four mutated characters with unique abilities that can be controlled by the players on the Infected side.

1. This is a 4-player co-op only game. The point isn't to beat a campaign or anything, it's just to survive the level. Your teammates are essential and you'll most likely die without them so teamwork is vital.
2. Like Hamza said there are no "triggers" in the game. It's run by an AI "director" that makes sure the zmobie placement and attacks are different everytime. It also gauges the teams tension which lets up on the attacks when it gets too high, and cranks it up if it gets too low.
3. You can also choose to play as one of the super zombies (like the boomer) and attack other human controlled players. There are like 4 or 5 different ones you can choose from and the game disperses them out based on the tension level to make sure the humans aren't getting spammed by super zombies all the time.
Based on your last comment, I think you have some misconceptions about the game. It doesn't have a campaign story mode or anything, it's meant to be played like a multiplayer match except it's co-op and the objective is to survive through the level.

Okay then. Thank you all for the comments, maybe I'll end up checking this out when it releases after all.
Also, Mxyzptlk & GuitarAtomik: Good call. I needed more info.

Yeah... Mxy and Guitar stepped in just as I was about to write something about it.
I used the term traditional for the fact that, for all intents and purposes, the superzombies were still human. Nothing like in Resident Evil with the Hunters or anything like that.

Yeah, quick summary:
1 - Up to 4 player co-op against either AI directed enemies or additional, user controlled super-zombies.
2 - Procedural levels: different path to a randomly placed objective every time.
3 - AI director controlled enemies gives users lulls (not LULZ!) in the battle to build tension and "intelligently" throws the waves of zombies at the enemy.
4 - Proper co-op, where you can help your friends up off the ground when they get injured, you can still fight when you've been knocked down and actual cooperation is important!
I think you just read "zombie game" and made assumptions about the rest. Mxy and GA were right to point you to more info.
