So a buddy and I made the trek to our local Best Buy in the early afternoon, hoping to score some games from their $10 bargain bin sale. We go there to find that the box was half empty and all of the good games were already snatched. Being persistent, we continued rummaging through the bin multiple times hoping something would show up or wait for the good games to “respawn.”
There were plenty of copies of Rock Revolution, The Golden Compass, and The Bourne Conspiracy. Additionally, there were various sports games that neither of us could really give a damn about. Eventually, we conceded but came up with a great idea to gift each other for our birthdays. His was this past Friday, while mine would be coming up this Monday. He grabbed Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 from the regular shelf that was priced at $15 and I decided to get him The Bourne Conspiracy and Supreme Commander for $20. I told him I’d play DOAX2, but wouldn’t be caught dead buying it, lest I be perceived as a pervert.
He then proceeded to Tweet, “Doesn’t mind looking like a pervert while buying DoAX2.” With my response “Glad I’m not a pervert for buying DoAX2.
In the end, we didn’t come out of Best Buy empty-handed, but we did come out broken-hearted.
Oh well, better luck next year.
Next time a sale like this goes on, I'm getting there early.
They were sold out except for one that a friend of mine (an employee) was holding for herself. I smoothed talked it out of her. So I snatched the last one.
Everyone else seemed rad enough, and I even had a pretty good discussion with one couple while we waiting for the doors to open. Definitely beats the hell out of waiting for a console to launch, I'll tell you that much.
I'm heading up to another one tomorrow but to be honest I'll be shocked if they have anything other than copies of The Golden Compass and the Naked Brothers Band.
And most best buys where cleaned out by scalpers.
I wasn't there for those games, so I wasn't disappointed, but I was surprised to see that. Seems like they just threw out the "sale" sign to get people in the door.
do you know if they only match whats on the add itself or can you bring on the ad and the list? Most places say the item in question has to be on the ad in order to price match.
Sounded like his friend was at another BB, as he kept saying "yeah, that's not here, grab it". He also kept walking and standing in front of people. I really wanted to punch him...but I had my son with me.
What also sucked was that I overheard one of the employees say they didn't have a lot of the games that were listed on the sale.
I went in looking for Silent Hill and DMC4; came out with Hellboy (a friend of mine bought it and told me to grab it if I saw it so we can try co-op) and Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3. C&C was sitting by the cashier, and after confirming it wasn't being held for anyone, I bought it. It was mostly due to the fact that I was hoping to come out with 3 or 4 games, making it an "ah, fuck it, I'll buy it" purchase.
Well I haven't checked but doesn't the BB ad list all the games that are on sale for $10?
The newspaper BB ad only shows 4 or 5 games for each system. I know for the 360, they had Infinite Undiscovery and Devil May Cry 4.
