I toss around the term, bad luck a lot. Yet today it defines itself to me more than any other day.
So finally, I have Modern Warfare 2 in my hands. I go forth in placing it in my disc tray, and begin playing it for say, about twenty minutes. That far in, I begin to see translucent blue patches in the game world. Each patch stays where it is at, and each texture in the game has a different one.. I grew tired of this, and so I decided to stop playing and turn my console off, to fix the problem. When I turn my console back on, NO VIDEO!
Thirty minutes of me fooling with cables, video resolutions, and many other frantic attempts at fixing the problem, I am still left without video, and hope. I have now come to a conclusion that my xbox's GPU has disconnected from the motherboard. My 'one year warranty' is apparently long gone, as xbox.com tells me. So I am left with shattered dreams, and heartbreak. The least it could do is completely brick on me(RRoD), so as I could get the free repair. But no, if I send this into repair, I have to pay Microsoft 100 big ones.
I am trying however to see it a different way though. My 360 just couldn't handle Modern Warfare 2's love.
Yeah, RRoD the thing. Exactly the same thing happened to me at the launch of Resi 5.
In fact... I know someone's died on the launch day of Halo 3... Perhaps it's an elaborate ploy by MS to kill consoles so you buy another to desperately play new titles... Hmmmmmm....
Ends up that it can resist the torture. I kept it on for a full 10 hours. I would check up on it every few minutes to make sure it was still on. And can I assure that that method does make it very hot on the outside of the console. The console it self got 'dryer' hot, if not hotter.. Yet it still did not brick on me.
Which I find fully surprising...
In conclusion: They brick when you don't want em to/They don't brick when you do want them too.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
<whisper>Try turning it on with a towel wrapped around it so it'll overheat and redring</whisper>

I'm sorry about the system failure, I hope everything gets fixed soon.
There are no stupid questions, only stupid people.
