The Arcade Lives! (Lots of Pics)
Tattoojoe3rd | 7:47 PM on 07.20.2009 16 comments

So I realized something on Sunday this weekend, and that is, THAT arcades are still out there. It's just that you have to look really hard to find a good one that isn't just a shit load of ticket games and racers set up and way over priced. I made my first visit to a little place called Gameworks. For those of you who do not know Gameworks is a place where people can go to play old and new Arcade games. Best part is that after 9 it turns into adults only. But seeing as how I haven't even seen a proper arcade in close to a decade, you can imagine my amazement that I was actually able to play my old favorites for a reasonable price along with drinking a beer between rounds of Tekken 6, Metal Slug 5, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2. (Number of Beers Drank not equal to games played).

But back to the details of this place, the way it was set up was perfect because all the kid crap was in one area while all of the other games were grouped together. Some of the highlights of the trip which you can check out in all the awesome pictures I took. I swear I was a total tourist in there. But the Highlights include Rambo, House of the Dead 4 Special Edition, (which I heard was the only one in the states but I don't know how much I trust that) King of Fighters XII, Warzaid, Let's Go Jungle, Sangokushi Taisen, Tekken 6, Street Fighter IV, and Last But not least Tetsonoku Vs. Capcom. Altogether an awesome trip.

Quick review of said games is as follows. Rambo- A decent arcade shooter where the gun makes you feel like a true bad ass. You have to hold the butt of it close to your shoulder to actually increase accuracy. But the best part comes in the form of a RAMBO RAGE meter at the bottom of the screen, and when the meter fills you unleash RAMBO RAGE invincibility which also results in an extremely loud Rambo/Stalone yell that lasts the entire time in RAGE mode. House of the Dead 4 Special Edition- is the same as the regular first two levels of the game with a couple key differences. 1. You are seat belted into a fully automated chair like those 3D rollarcoaster ride games. 2. You share a health bar with your team member who is also along for the ride. 3. You are actually inside an inclosure made for the game with sliding doors that sound proof you from the noise outside. 4. There are air jets that blow on you at certain parts of the game for shock value as well as when you take Damage. Sangokushi Taisen which i did not play butwatched for what seemed like hoursthis is a straight import from Japan that uses cards as battle units like a mix of Yu-gi-oh and Kessen all in real time while you have the cards in front of you and you could even by a starter deck from the machine for about $1.50. As for the rest most I assume have played Street Fighter IV but the arcade game is Awesome as well. Tekken 6 was gourgous and the sheer amout of playable characters is amazing. King of Fighters XII was great looking I really liked the way they went with the art style on this version it was a great update to the series.

So with all that said I encourage anyone one coming into my neck of the woods AKA Chicago to check this place out if you are hungry for arcade goodness. And it's also pretty affordable. One last thing so the trolls and toads of you out there don't need to waste time. No I don't work there, but rather went there for a friends birthday and had a blast.

Now Chack out the PICS!

Down at my arcade back when I played, we had a cup holder for Capcom vs SNK 2 that mostly held beers. Didn't have any myself, but good times.

Which Gameworks is this? Definitely not the Seattle one, it doesn't have the enclosed House of the Dead cabinet.

They have a Donkey Kong arcade?!

That. Is. Fucking. Hardcore.

We only have Peter Piper Pizza and one that is over the movies. At least they have Marvel VS Capcom, King of Fighters and Mtal Slug.

I made an article regarding arcades a bunch of days ago. I wish we had Gameworks here

OMG...I weep at the fact that we don't have one down here in Florida. What really sucks is that you'll be driving around and then suddenly you'll see a sign that says arcade so you rush over there and be all excited like but...IT'S A FUCKING SHITTY CASINO/SLOTS thing! WTF!!!! RAGE x 9001!
