Ours exploded and started doing the same thing. After kicking it a few times we sent it in to Microsoft. If your warranty doesn't exist try gamestop.
If you want the RRoD you could always try leaving it on for a few days and letting the cpu and or gpu melt.
I live in the UK and if you look at my sidebar you can see that i bought it with the Halo 3 bundle so its a Halo 3 special edition if that makes any difference?
Sometimes 360's give weird graphics glitches or colours before they die/RROD. Since it's probably not gonna work again out of itself, you might as well leave it on for a couple of hours and see what happens. If it RROD's, send it back, if it doesn't, then make it RROD and send it back :)
This is exactly what happened to mine which died right before Gears 2 came out.
It's a harder fix than the RRoD, which means it isn't covered by Microsoft's 3 year warranty I believe. I read from someone else on Dtoid whom this happened to, and Microsoft told her that "This is a known problem" and I think wanted to charge her $100 to fix....might be a little off on the details my memory is crap.
I HATE Microsoft, yet I love their video games.... I'm like a battered puppy who always comes back for more abuse ha ha :)
You're cheapest fix may be to save your power brick and cables and buy a cheap 'console only' on ebay or Craigslist....I saw some for around $110 with shipping on ebay not long ago, though I ended up buying an Arcade new since I wanted HDMI (My old console didn't have it.
Good luck dude
Your easiest, cheapest fix is to call Microsoft and say "My Xbox 360 red ringed." They will go through a few troubleshooting steps, which you will tell them you've either already tried or just tried and it didn't work.
I've never had a red ring -- three of my Xbox 360s had video that stopped working. As far as Microsoft is concerned, I had three red rings. Once they set up the return and receive the system, it won't make a difference what the issue is.
same thing happen to my 3rd 360 leave it on, wrapped in a towel and after a few hours it will RRoD
Sounds like Nick is on top of this one.
So, I dont own a 360, but basically you just make the console die in a RRoD so you can send it to warranty?
As Nick said, when you call MS tech support, tell em you have the RROD and pretend to follow all the troubleshooting steps only to keep saying youre getting the RROD everytime you turn it on.
If you stop the GPU fan from turning. Aka: the fan closest to the USB port and Ethernet Port. But allow the CPU fan to run, the system will stay on as long as the CPU doesn't overheat. This will buttfuck the GPU and give you an RRoD.
Microsoft ingeniously neglected to put a thermometer on the GPU to cut the system off if it overheats so all you have to do is keep the CPU cool enough to stay on.
@BrainDerailment: Didn't know that. I'll have to try this on my buddies system that won't RRoD.
I had the same problem with mine. I just called Microsoft they told me to try a few things. I did and it still didn't work so they get me to send it in.
Thank you all,
and Merryfuck Microsoft Hard :)
