I hate buying games and it has nothing to do with price

There are no good places to buy games. At all. There's something wrong with all the places I go to get games.

First, we will start with the most hated, Gamestop/EB. Ideally, this should be the best place to buy a game. It's a video game store. But no, this is probably my least favorite place to go for games. Every single one of their locations I've been too are way too small. There are always a few dozen little kids with their clueless parents running around. Or even worse, trading in about 30 games and 2 systems to get some crappy game. I have twice been next in line for about 15 or 20 minutes while some kid gets $3 a piece for 10 games so he can get a new DBZ game. Also, most of the staff at these places are totally inhuman. Every once and awhile I'll talk to someone who actually knows about games. That's quite a refreshing experience. But they are few and far between. One kid working there actually asked if Zelda was, "The green guy or the princess?" I mean, I know you don't have to like or even play games to work there, it just seems strange. Ideally, since most people who go in there are clueless parents buying games for their kids, you should know something about what you're selling. The staff also loves to push things down your throat as you are making a purchase at their store. Every time I'm there I'm asked if I want to preorder anything. This doesn't bother me. But after I say no, they proceed to list of games that are coming out that year to make sure I'm not going to change my mind and preorder. That's absurd. This isn't rape, but no still means no.

Secondly, the big stores such as Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, Target etc. These are the places I usually tend to go to pick up my gaming needs. But they suffer from the "No one ever knows what I'm talking about" syndrome. People there know much less about the products that the Gamestop guys, and that makes sense since it's not a games only store. But they also seem to have a bizarrely varying stock. It seems that they just stop caring some older games and don't have a very large stock of non AAA titles. They also don't have used games.

Finally, I could get games online. This is probably the best option really. You can generally find anything cheaper online. It really isn't a bad option for a normal person, but I hate waiting for things. I'd rather pay a little extra and get it in a store now than wait for it to come in the mail. That's just my personal problem. I'm sure lots of people love ordering online. I keep it reserved for games I absolutely cannot find in stores.

I want to start an adult video game store. Adult as in "no kids allowed" not as in porn. I think that would be a much nicer shopping environment. Until that day, I will have to rough the stupid, stupid world of video game retail until I go crazy from being welcomed to Best Buy or always asked if I want to reserve things. Ugh.

Good luck with the adult video game store... I guess. Maybe I just have a good gamestop, because generally, they are really pleasant. And every time I walk in, they are enjoying a talk about games coming out, which I think is a much more subtle way to promote those games. And I've NEVER been asked to preorder anything.

i bought mass effect pc at a gamestop and the guy was like heres your receipt in case something goes wrong or your computer cant run it or something... i guess its uncommon for a 14 year old to make their own gaming pc -_-

The people at the EB I go to are usually pretty knowledgeable. It's actually a decent store.

I shop at a nice "hole in the wall" place for my gaming needs, so I avoided the common suffering most gamers experience.

I usually shop at GAME, which is located only about a mile from where I live. It's a pretty small store and the dudes that work there are ok. I usually pre-order something and pick it up from my lunch break from work. In and out in five minutes is the best policy. But yeah, if there were better online stores in Australia, I'd use them.

Luckily the EB games here in NZ are good; i believe preference is given to gamers when it comes to hiring, and ive never come across a shop with jerks working there.
But i still dont shop there, because its NZ and we get shafted by prices. They nearly always have a sale on for something but its rarely what i want, when i have the money.

I've never really had a problem with gamestop. Although I always get asked if I want to preorder something they've never pressed the issue after I said "no." Also when I was in there buying "no more heroes" the other day the guy working told me it was a good choice. So somewhere out there is an employee who knows his stuff.

The only good gamestop is good for is if you know for sure youre going to want a specific game ahead of time & you know for sure you wont change your mind. Then, sometimes they have pre-order extras.

Otherwise, you can usually wait a week after a game comes out and get it for $10 less somewhere.

I sometimes find good deals at http://www.gogamer.com as well as amazon

I don't understand how you people have so much trouble buying games. When I go to a store to buy something I go there like a man and go grab what I need. I sometimes even call the store to see if they have the product I need so I don't waste my time and my expensive fuel.

It's fairly simple, too. I don't expect much from people. I just want to know if what I want is there. Thats all I need. I research the product I buy before I buy it.

I don't usually browse like a woman, and when I do, it's usually just to look around and not really buy something. If an item catches my eye and I like it, I may take it home and I may not. I'm not going to ask the sales person if it's good or not. How can they give me a straight answer? They're employees. Their job is to sell me shit.

I don't know. Maybe I'm being over dramatic, but gamers seem to bitch too much. And yes, I understand I'm bitching about people bitching, but it's true.

I like play n trade a lot for 3 reasons

1. they actually stock a used copy of Final Fantasy VII

2. They are about 400 feet from my house

3. they will match Gamestop if GS has it cheaper

@ Vexed Alex,
Exactly. The only time I browse is when looking for cheap, pre-owned games. Do your research ahead of time. Get in, get out. The end.
