Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
We just take our pay raise, and keep doing the same job we did in the past, but a writer has to consider where the money's being made off of their work and seek better money when someone else tries to profit off of their work. If they originally only specified payment through TV, shouldn't they want a piece of the profit from airing online, itunes, youtube, etc? Otherwise they're working in a vacuum of money. They lose money to work. They do the same amount of work, but someone else makes money off of their efforts and they don't see a dime. Even if it's only a dime.
Only a moron would work in Hollywood for a upfront payment basis since the most money can be made in the long run with how things are setup now. Even if it's $.05 an episode downloaded to a writer, all those people who download Lost or The Office off of wherever are potential profits to that writer. Can you imagine being cheated out of $50,000 because last week's episode of Lost wasn't shuffling profits off to you? You had 1 million downloads of your episode. And you get nothing, because your contract didn't specify "Internet and media streaming"
That's why this is dicked for the WGA and why I favor the strike. They know it will impair Hollywood, and that's why the studios will be quick to resolve it. If you wanna be pissed at anyone, be pissed at the studios for being dicks and not paying their people correctly. After all, you're giving them money that they're expected to distribute fairly and they're not. Don't make the WGA out to be the bad guy in this.
