I hate this stupid writer's strike. I don't even care if it shuts down tv. If I had free time to watch tv, I'd be playing games instead! What I do care about is how much shit this is causing for everyone else. All the 'little' people who aren't part of this stupid union [never liked Unions]. It could be that I come from a different country and I prefer the ECC approach instead of some union boss telling me what I should do for my own good so he can line his own filthy pocket.

But I digress, this shit has been going on way too long and is starting to impact a lot of other people who are starting to lose their entire livelihoods. I think what I hate most about it is that the WGA expects everyone to give a toss about them, but they're really not showing the same regard to other people who are in weaker positions and aren't part of their fight. It just screams selfish. You want a better deal, all well and good, but don't fuck everyone else over at the same time and expect them to smile about it. Maybe it's time to look at the U.K. and their approach, or even Australia.

They all need a good dose of Mario Galaxy or Assasin's creed. No wait, that's me. Come out already!

I care about it. Fuck hollywood lawyers and their haggling over demands. People should be able to profit from their hard work. They do in most regards, but whenever you need a pay raise, don't you want to just get it and not have to fight for it? That's what they're doing.

We just take our pay raise, and keep doing the same job we did in the past, but a writer has to consider where the money's being made off of their work and seek better money when someone else tries to profit off of their work. If they originally only specified payment through TV, shouldn't they want a piece of the profit from airing online, itunes, youtube, etc? Otherwise they're working in a vacuum of money. They lose money to work. They do the same amount of work, but someone else makes money off of their efforts and they don't see a dime. Even if it's only a dime.

Only a moron would work in Hollywood for a upfront payment basis since the most money can be made in the long run with how things are setup now. Even if it's $.05 an episode downloaded to a writer, all those people who download Lost or The Office off of wherever are potential profits to that writer. Can you imagine being cheated out of $50,000 because last week's episode of Lost wasn't shuffling profits off to you? You had 1 million downloads of your episode. And you get nothing, because your contract didn't specify "Internet and media streaming"

That's why this is dicked for the WGA and why I favor the strike. They know it will impair Hollywood, and that's why the studios will be quick to resolve it. If you wanna be pissed at anyone, be pissed at the studios for being dicks and not paying their people correctly. After all, you're giving them money that they're expected to distribute fairly and they're not. Don't make the WGA out to be the bad guy in this.
The writers are getting fucked over by the studios... like dvddesign said, that's who you should be pissed off at.
I am, but I'm still pissed off that everyone is getting screwed over and the writers have no sympathy for them, just themselves. You have to give it if you want to give it. This doesn't negate the studios being assholes, but you don't get a right with two wrongs.
