I was skimming the web this fine, fine evening and discovered an interesting write up on Kotaku. Entitled "Believe: Ten Real Reasons Why MGS4 Is PS3 Only", it caught my attention for obvious reasons. I'll share with you their 10 "real" reasons:
"1). Jack and Hideo said it was an exclusive at E3. In front of many people and on stage, even. Jack later told us to our collective face.
2). Kaz sent Hideo flowers for the Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Party. Sending flowers for events like this is a Japanese custom. Street Fighter II creator Yoshiki Okamoto sent flowers, too. Kaz's were prettier, though."
3).Sony sent Hideo a gaming cake and booze for the MG 20th Party. Gaming cake? Serious.
4). Kojima Prods. have stated that MGS4 was being developed especially for PS3 hardware.
Sony is producing the Metal Gear Solid movie.
6). The Metal Gear 20th Anniversary cell phone is a Sony product.
7). At the Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Party, Phil Harrison appeared in a video letter. I didn't really hear it because I was too busy trying to talk to the Microsoft Japan honcho.
8). Hideo told Luke it was for the PS3. No way he could lie to Luke. No way.
9). Snake uses a SIXAXIS in MGS4.
10). See numero uno."
I gotta admit. I was actually hoping for more than cake and flowers as "real" reasons. Or do traditions play a larger role in the wheeling and dealing of exclusivity? Does SIXAXIS and specific hardware development matter? From cell phones to movies, action figures and Metal Gear Online, why wouldn't it stay on the PS3?
*Kotaku has also posted an addendum to their 10 reasons story. Titled "Eleventh Reason Why MGS4 Is PS3 Only", they add a conversation with Sony's Peter Dille, who states:
"There was something that came out prior to (the Sony E3 keynote) announcement. Our folks have talked to the Konami folks, and until the announcement was out from our side, I think they were being a little bit cagey. But the agreement calls for exclusivity, the announcement's been made, and now people know the real story."
Real story, huh? Sony seems pretty confident MGS isn't going anywhere...

11. No other MGS game has been ported in the past to another console.
12. Jesus said so.
13. 13 is an unlucky number, PS3 is teh screwed!
14. The oracle said the PS3 will only sell if MGS4 is exclusive. The oracle also made some delicious chocolate chip cookies too.
15. A house fell on Bill Gates and only his red ruby shoes remained visible, which were stolenzed by Kaz.

Yeah, FF never got ported to any other consoles either.
In fact, there's never ever been any variations, side stories, mashups or re-releases of any FF game evar.
It's been FFI through FFXII so far. Tactics might as well have been a shitty sequel to Vagrant Story.
Look Su,
We all tell ourselves these little lies to keep us going. I still believe Nintendo wants to make games and appeal to the hardcore gamer.
I also believe that there's a good version of the 7th harry potter book coming too. One that doesn't drag it's feet for 300 pages.
That's a fake, clearly. IF it had ever been ported to another console, Kaz would've told us.
So does that mean that the next version of Street Fighter will have an exclusive MGS character?
I mean, if were going through that logic...
9). Snake uses a SIXAXIS in MGS4.
That one is interesting If they do port it...will they change that? or leave it like that?
Using a Sixaxis in the game is a simple graphic. Changing that to a 360 controller is about a million times easier than separately programming Link, Heihachi, and Spawn into three different versions of the same game.
The word "exclusive" gets thrown around a lot these days, like with Unreal Tournament III. We all know its coming out early next year, yet Sony and Epic gladly slam the "exclusive" tag on it anyway. So MGS is obviously exclusive, but for how long?
Finally, Kotaku is fucking gay. Ron Workman told me a number of industry secrets earlier this year, and up until now they have all come true. I think he has earned the benefit of the doubt.
You sir, have most likely hit the nail on the head.
See? We now have dos people who have spotted the likeliness of a 360 version, haha. The internetz will soon tumble, and you, dvddesign, and me, skeletor. WILL RULE IT ALL.
1. Cuz Ron Workman fucking said so.
