My Epic Game Purchase.

I've been on a bit of a retro kick as of lates so I decided to hit up my local Play & Trade to see what I can't find and I decided to pick up Saint's Row 2 (already beat it and sold it but the DLC is out now.) another copy of The Darkness since I have no idea where my copy went. Then I hit the main reason I decided to go there rather than the EB Games down the street from them, the retro section.

I snagged a copy of Tony Hawk Pro Skater for the Dreamcast for a whopping dollar and then I found two games so epic I grabbed them both at the same time...

Yes, that is Shaq-Fu. Yes, I wasted a dollar on it. No, I will not smash it and set it on fire. Chrono Cross was a pure nerd purchase. It's still sealed and everything. I've never played it but I've herd lot of good things about it. I'm a little unsure because the only RPG I ever really got into was FFVIII but, we'll see what happens.

So does the fact that I purchased Chrono Cross balance out the fact that also bought Shaq-FU?

Chrono Cross is controversial. Some hate it because of the differences between it and Chrono Trigger. Others love it for its own merits.

Good:
-Generally interesting story
-Decent combat mechanics
-Beautiful visuals for the time
-Great music
-Great FMV's
Bad:
-Too many characters
-Not enough character depth
-Small world
-Only tangentially related to Chrono Trigger
-Plot doesn't entirely make sense
-"Leveling" system makes things far too easy.

I'd give it like a 9.2 overall, but I understand why some people don't like it.

Bah, I got the Chrono Cross w/o green label fully sealed for twenty. I ruined it for myself for thinking it was like its predecessor, sadly it wasn't. Its too full of characters that I don't care about and PS1 graphics of bleh-some quality that its kinda hard to get into.

Chrono Cross isn't a personal favorite, but it has its good points - if you got it cheap then you did okay.

If you don't think of Chrono Cross as a real sequel to chrono trigger than the game is awesome. The music is good, the graphics aren't hard to get used to like some ps1 games. I played chrono cross before chrono trigger so I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

Kite, that'll be easy since I never played Chrono Trigger. I'm not a big RPG fan...

Chrono Trigger is one of the biggest "decent RPG" titles you could ever play. I really, really liked it, but it's not upper echelon in my opinion.

Good find on Shaq Fu though!

@magnalon

Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross? Because Chrono Trigger is much more than a "decent RPG".
