Why Street Fighter IV should be Hadoukend into the ground!
StrawHatLuffy | 4:52 PM on 03.01.2009 12 comments

Lets clear this up, if you’re looking for someone who's gonna bash street fighter due to some issue I may have with the gameplay, graphics or whatever you came to the wrong place buddy.
I'm a gamer, like many of you and consider myself to be a pretty good one at that not amazing but good in my own right, oh and experienced too. But street fighter reminded me of something, something buried in the dark trenches of my soul. A recent inadequacy I’ve been having when it came to fighting games, that no matter how much I enjoyed or how many hours I spent concocting tactics , the wall that didn't allow me to enjoy fighting games of today.

a wall that separates the manliest of men

Fighting games of recent have always been a letdown for me, the bright side use to be you and one mate or a couple test your skills at each other and see how who's the best at knocking the crap out of the others .But that's just half the fun, the trash talk surrounding it, the gloating for the winner the tension as gamers pride are put on the line and just the basic joy you got out of the moment, whether you’re the winner or loser. Fighting games have always been the best games to play with friends in my opinion.

But now with the introduction of online play (the wall and everything after) , leaderboards and all that other things can you really consider yourself good anymore. You can't be the best among your mates or the legend in your area, why? Cos there's someone ready to kick your ass online and prove how miserable you really are at the game. Another problem? Gamers have always been a lazy bunch, so now that they don't have to get off their ass and face you mano e mano. They can just play by simply connecting through the internet not matter how far away you are, so the tension the gloating and all them special qualities seem to have disappeared. So even if fighting games may not have dropped in quality this generation they still have been lacking that special quality they use to have.

These fears I've been having with the recent generation of fighting games have been highlighted by street fighter IV. With its record sales, everyone seems to own a copy and everyone wants to play you to prove their worth but guess where they want to play you...online. It looks like fighting games seem to have lost their glory with first the death of the arcades and now local play although not that prominent it seems to be suffering as well.

So you know what? Screw Xbox live! You want to play me? Gonna have to come to my house my buddy otherwise I’m not playin’. Or better yet I won’t buy the game then publishers like Capcom will learn to push forward the old glory days of these games. So what if its sold 2 million copies in a week? They’ll definitely listen to an individual who ranting on the internet about how they should alter the whole generation of fighting games by a solution not even considered by the person who came up with the initial matter. Right?RIGHT?!

P.S my first blog and I haven’t even introduced myself on Destructoid , this was kind of a rushed article since I want to publish it while this was still on my mind. Thanks for reading!

P.S P.S this was very rushed and not proof read so ignore the lack of depth in every area possible and criticise every point of my article so I will improve.

I hate seth

You need to either attend tournaments near your area or move to japan and play the machines locally. Nobody is just going to walk over to your house and challenge you buddeh. Personally, the only beef I have with the online are the poor connection qualities.

I don't think you're alone on this. I have not played SFIV online. Actually, I don't play anything online except for WoW and I only play that when I'm playing with people that I know in real life.

More power to you if you can enjoy XBox live. I, however, do not.

I solve this by not having a PS360 and having to go to a friend's house to play.

I understand this is your first "blog" and all, but there is no excuse for not proofreading the damn thing, son.
Were you in that much of a hurry to post this?!

Welcome to the club and try not to suck...

"Gamers have always been a lazy bunch"

That statement makes me frown.

I don't get it. Just because Capcom includes the option to play opponents online, that doesn't mean you can't play them locally.

I'm sure if you have friends you want to play that live nearby, they'll come over. And if they are indeed lazy like you say, and would rather play online, well that's their problem, not Capcom's problem...

WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH IT SHOULD BE LIKE THE OLD DAYS.

Take off your nostalgia goggles and embrace the future, invite your pals if you wanna fight locally, beyond that, hop online and beat up some strangers, the experience is not that different, especially when you have a good match and someone sends you a good match message.

Man, I mean you have some balance issues, Seth being cheap and THIS is what you whine about?

You don't even seem to have SFIV, why not whine about SFHD? Same story.

I feel kind of the same way about games like Halo, where online play has killed the good ol' System Link... but those were a pain to set up, and you can play online anytime, and most importantly, the option for system link is still there. Fighting games have it even easier; you just need a buddy and another controller.

Why do you care so much about 'rankings' ? Theres ALWAYS someone better, at EVERY game. There will always be someone who is naturally good at something and who is also willing to put the rest of their life on hold for it. Games are for fun. If you want to have fun by playing with a mate, side by side on the same console, then by all means do it. Its not like they took the option out (now THAT would be something worth complaining about).

where i'm always for Arcade gatherings >> Online gatherings, arcades are dead in america save..Cali, Chinatown Arcade in NYC, and maybe 1 or a few other nit nacks. Unless Arcades secretly make a comeback (meaning some local arcades run into shitloads of money to afford the special cabinets things like SFIV and Tekken 6 run on.) people are stuck at home and nearby friends to play.

complaining about it doesn't do well and if you don't want to play online where there's good and scrubby players playing, your loss. There's a reason there's communities like Shoryuken so that people can stop fighting kids obsessed to have "the highest score on the leaderboards" or "playing like a scrub". Find some people, play online with friends, learn tatics, get better. It's about as close to the arcade experience you'll get.

in other words, stop complaining and use the current technology to your use.

Thanks for the comments also to the tourny comments , believe me I have tried. Oh and I'll never stop complaining about the old days cause they'll always be better ;)

I do have Street Fighter IV on another account and just thought I'd clear up why it ain't my games list.

Of course the Xbox live comment and not buying the games was sarcasm , it didn't come off as clear as I hoped.
