About Me

Whats up everyone. I'm Steve if you haven't already guessed. And I do a lot of crap with gaming apparently. I used to host over at XBL Radio but I decided to start my own show up as well as my own site. So I started up a new podcast called, "The Gamers Pub." This show is about beer and games because thats what I know and enjoy best. The show comes out once a week on Monday mornings, you really should check it out, www.thegamerspub.com. The best thing you can do is just let us know what you think about the show, because after all, it is for you gamers out there. Besides that I also run the website, Platform Nation. Now this site is a little bit different then others. Platform Nation is a collaboration of several gaming podcasts who decided it would be best for our gamers, the podcasters and the rest of the gaming community if they came together to share efforts. Together we have a larger voice in the community for the gamers that we strive to speak for. We share the same forums and for the most part, share the same listeners. After all, we are a community, not a network. We have a shared set for forums for all the sites, forums.platformnation.com where we might not all have the same listeners for all the shows but the forums provide us with a place to bs with gamers from all different prospectives or ways of life. We seem to always have contests going on over there as well as weekly Saturday Night Gaming Nights where the community gets together for some friendly fragging or whatever else we are playing that day.

Here are some pics for you all to see what I'm about

World of Conflict girl

Sword of the New World girl with the guys from XBL Radio

And lets finish it of with my sexy wife

So thats me, I guess. I'm just a regular gamer who records myself talking and puts it out as a show.

Design Your Own Xbox 360 Theme, win prizes for doing so

http://www.platformnation.com/2008/03/17/design-your-own-xbox-360-theme/

Starting today, you can design your own theme for the Xbox 360. Yes, you read that right, and not only that but you can also win some amazing prizes. Platform Nation is teaming up with Disruptive Publishers, which is partnering up with Nokia, to bring you a very special contest where you can design your own theme and walk away with some cool prizes for doing so. First off, let me tell you about the prizes as I know this will get you pretty pumped up:

The Grand Prize winning theme designer wins a Blu-Ray DVD player, a 42′ LCD 1080p TV, a 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Home Theater, a Nokia N81 Phone, five XBOX 360 Video Games (valued at $2499.99), and the winning theme will get published by DP and the designer will receive a royalty payment contract from DP for future content.

Now really, how cool is that? But wait, that's not all. Platform Nation is also in the running for a community prize, where all of the themes that we submit will up tallied up together against the other participating communities and the community with the most votes will win some more awesome prizes. We really want to win those because, if we do, guess what? They are all going right back to you guys, our community!

This is where you guys come in: What we are hoping is that you all let us submit your themes and in doing so you can win one of 20 Microsoft Point cards (each theme you submit is one entry to win from us). You will still be in the running to win that awesome grand prize, and you would just be helping us out by submitting it under our community for the top community vote. So the more themes the merrier. We also want you guys to vote and vote often for what themes you think are the best submissions.

If your interested in doing some theme designs, I have more info for you so you know what you need to work with.

The Xbox 360 has a user interface which can be personalized via downloadable themes. Similar to desktop wallpaper on personal computers, Xbox 360 themes serve as background images to the system’s graphical user interface. Each theme consists of four unique wallpaper images (1120x770, PNG file format); one for each Xbox 360 blade. Only submissions containing four unique wallpaper images will be accepted.

Theme Design - Best Practices:
• Create themes with sets of four unique, but complimentary images
• Use the color of the surrounding user interface “trim” (orange, blue, yellow or green) to compliment the theme design when possible
• Try to avoid overly complicated or “loud” theme designs which compete with the Xbox 360 user interface. A good theme should be complimentary to the overall console experience – not a distraction.
• Note that there is a significant “cropped” area from the 1120x770 source file and what’s actually displayed in most real-world situations on an actual HDTV setup. Namely, the blade trim and top/bottom “safe zones” will be cropped out, so please design accordingly.

Visual Examples
The next page of this document includes detailed visual examples of “raw” files with the final theme as it appears with the Xbox 360 user interface overlay side-by-side. Please take note of how the user interface overlay interacts with the original images; again, files should be created as 1120x770 PNG or JPG files.

or dtoid members can do all of us a favor and not only submit there themes, but do it under the P*N community to show us a little support!

That we would love, I know we are always trying to show our Dtoid support on our site and shows.

@Phil

Destructoid CAN get it's own themes in, in a much more efficient manner than this contest.

I wouldn't mind doing this if this actually let you make your own themes. Since it's a contest though, I'm significantly less inspired.

I wouldn't mind doing this.

Do I need any programs? How the hell do I make it? Because if I need to download something onto my computer I can't do this because my computer is a piece of shit.

I think MS should let us be able to customize our own Dashboard as much as we want, other then the crap they sell.

Someone could knock up a DToid theme but it would be a pointless task seeing as its never ever gonna be up for download on Marketplace.

contest lol wut?

Would be totally better if you let us design the dashboard/blade interface also, that'd be sweet. Anyone can do custom background pictures.

@generalwong

I think if they weren't making people pay for new ones, they would. But since they started out evil and fucked up, they won't change...maybe.

@DVD:
Sorry, I should have been clearer. There are prizes for the best community entries, and the website that this was taken from is advertising for people to post their entries through their website. I meant that Dtoid should get in on making people make some entries so that we can get the best community award and all the goodies that come with it.

@UglyPhil the communities that are apart of it are the only communities that are apart of it. They are not letting other communities in. Sorry. Thats why I'm hoping that the DToid community can help us out because we are always showing support for our favorite gaming new site.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
