Are The Rock Band 2 Drum Kits Broken?
Steve519 | 11:11 PM on 09.12.2008 8 comments

Remember all the issues the first set of instruments had for Rock Band 1? Well it looks like it might have carried over to Rock Band 2 as evident in this video. I'm noticed a lot of hit detection errors where the pad is hit but the kit and game is not registering contact. Go ahead and watch the video and decide for yourself.

No offense but it's really hard to say based off the video. You are kinda hitting the edges of the pads an awful lot which could be why it's not reading.

ok, some else noticed what seems to be causing the screwup with the pads, it appears that when the blue and red pads are hit the yellow pad is slightly registering a hit as well, like if the vibration is causing the issue.

Still though, it really annoys me that the kit is not functioning properly. Just like my RB1 guitar

wait, where did you get a rockband 2 drum kit?

Vibration has been an issue, even with the newer drum kits. What you need to do is either get one of those ghetto sock mods (apparently the best, but I hate the look of them), some high-quality gum rubber drum pads, or fashion some support (wooden, most likely) across the underside of the pads to reduce vibration. Accuracy goes up, and whatever you pick, they'll probably be quieter and less likely to break.

A lot of those seem to be because you just hit it about a half second off. Rock Band is notorious for having an incredibly small hit window. It's pretty clear you're not that great of a drummer, and I feel like that's a pretty major part of it.

And yeah, you're hitting the edges, which was a problem in the first set, and will probably be the same in this. Hit the middle, it's differently colored for a reason.

Just got a copy of the game and the regular RB2 drums. Noticing the same problems with the yellow pad. Very sensitive and tends to trigger off of red or blue. Still under warranty, though.

The hardware on these things are nearly always bug-ridden in some way. Especially for launch hardware.

 about me

Whats up everyone. I'm Steve if you haven't already guessed. And I do a lot of crap with gaming apparently. I used to host over at XBL Radio but I decided to start my own show up as well as my own site. So I started up a new podcast called, "The Gamers Pub." This show is about beer and games because thats what I know and enjoy best. The show comes out once a week on Monday mornings, you really should check it out, www.thegamerspub.com. The best thing you can do is just let us know what you think about the show, because after all, it is for you gamers out there. Besides that I also run the website, Platform Nation. Now this site is a little bit different then others. Platform Nation is a collaboration of several gaming podcasts who decided it would be best for our gamers, the podcasters and the rest of the gaming community if they came together to share efforts. Together we have a larger voice in the community for the gamers that we strive to speak for. We share the same forums and for the most part, share the same listeners. After all, we are a community, not a network. We have a shared set for forums for all the sites, forums.platformnation.com where we might not all have the same listeners for all the shows but the forums provide us with a place to bs with gamers from all different prospectives or ways of life. We seem to always have contests going on over there as well as weekly Saturday Night Gaming Nights where the community gets together for some friendly fragging or whatever else we are playing that day.

Here are some pics for you all to see what I'm about

So thats me, I guess. I'm just a regular gamer who records myself talking and puts it out as a show.
