The way I see it is that no one can definitively prove that video games are, or are not, art. I'm not affected either way, so I don't care if it is considered an artform or not.
Art or not, all video games should aspire to be like your balls. Tough task indeed, but I for one, think it will lead us to a better future and a more respected medium.
I have yet to see of these aforementioned "balls."
Balls aside, this is a very nice write up, and I agree 100%. Some people may seem saddened that their favorite form of media isn't exactly "art" status worthy. I think that is pointless that gamers are trying to elevate them to a higher state of...something, hell I dunno.
Games are what YOU make them to be, and they should be appreciated for just that.

Did Gary Busey tell you to post this?
I have suspicions now.
But where there is creativity, originality, or invention there must be an argument about whether or not it is considered art. Short version, yes they are. If you consider movies, books, paintings, drawings, poems and the like art, you should be able to realize video games are an interactive combination of those mediums.
But Gary Busey may disagree.

I'm with you 874% on this subject. Games are fun first and foremost, and everything else is a bonus.
Yeah, seriously. I still have no idea what "art" is, much less if videogames qualify or not.
AND I COULDN'T CARE LESS
I like games. I don't really care what you classify them as, I'll still enjoy them. Case closed

LMAO.
If you would of left just the title of this blog and nothing more, this still would of been win.

Because it's something to talk about regardless of the fact that it gets us nowhere and serves no purpose. Like talking politics.
I understand and, in fact, agree that videogames CAN be art (but not that all games are or should be). But to say that you disagree that "Videogames are videogames" is retarded.
That's like me saying "this painting is not a painting".
As long as a game is enjoyable (incidentally not necessarily the same of fun - though that is a source of enjoyment) I'm happy.

I stared at that picture for like 5 minutes before I started blinking again. that will haunt my dreams.
I have to agree with Yojimbo on this one ...
Also, I like to think of my sexy scuplted body as a piece of art! :-)

Yeah, people really overthink why games are what they are. Why is Mass Effect 2 so good? I unno. Because I like it, and shootan is fun.
Let me see if I understand your take on this, if people admire something, it's art.
So videogames are art??
