Semi-easy money in Tekken 6
Steel Squirrel | 9:07 PM on 11.04.2009 9 comments

Just in case anyone is having a difficult time making money for the lovely customizing of your favorite Tekken characters... I have a great way to grind for tons of cash and items. If you can manage to land some key items in the Scenario Campaign for the character of your choice, you can really rake in a load of cash and items which you can sell. (Warning: you may have to beat the campaign or get close to doing so anyway to get these higher level items)

The items I have set up on my character give me the following stat boosts:

-Increase attack 70%
-Increase Item Drop Rate 74%
-Elemental Ice Attack 18%
-Increase Health Meter 197
-Increase Fight Money Value 225%

So... if you can get the drop rate, fight money value, and attack increase items, you will be good to go. It helps to set up Alisa with some items like health boosts and attack boosts as well, just so she doesn't die all the time. After you get some higher percentage versions of these items, head to the G Corporation, Millennium Tower Heliport level. It is the one where you fight Kazuya for the first time.

As it is now, I rake in just over $750,000 bucks each time I complete the level and land about 8-12 items that are usually worth $120,000 or more each. I even let it go by itself for a while and Alisa fought for a good ten minutes earning me money and I came back and finished the level after peeling some potatoes.

After about an hour of grinding tonight, I have just over $17,000,000. Plenty of money to customize your characters with.

Anyway, I don't know if anyone else even bought this game, but if you did and have been cursing the high-ass prices of the customization items... hopefully this will help.

Before you say this should be in the forums... I posted it there too, but I wanted to make sure everyone on Dtoid that got Tekken 6 got this info. The prices for the items are fucking outrageous and I am trying to help promote communism in Tekken land.

Happy customizing!

Wacky Rumors: MS wants to buy some EA
Steel Squirrel | 4:59 PM on 09.23.2009 5 comments

Hi everyone. I haven't blogged in a little while so I thought that I would stop by and say hi.

HI.

Ok, now that I got that out of the way, I wanted to tell you guys about this wacky rumor I read on the internets. Earlier there was a rumor about some Dreamcast games being playable on the PS3 and it appeared to be blog worthy, so I feel this is justified.

It looks like Microsoft is in the mood to buy things again. Remember that one time they wanted to buy Yahoo but it all fell apart? Crazy times for sure.

Yeah... well this time around they are interested in acquiring EA of all things. Read it here. So yeah I know it is just an internet rumor on N4G.com, but it brings up some interesting thoughts. Yes I know this kind of thing gets brought up a lot, like EA wanting to purchase Take-Two, but I am going to talk about it anyway. You can leave if you have no interest. So having said that, what do you think would happen in this situation if it became reality? I for one don't find it very likely due to the fact that EA makes a lot of damn money on their multiplatform yearly sports games and their newer IPs (Internet Protocols for you Wall Street folks) like Brutal Legend, Dead Space, Army of Two, Skate, and so on, but hey... who knows these days.

It is an interesting thought though and I did indeed think about it. If Microsoft were to acquire EA, what would happen to gaming as a whole? That would give Microsoft a large amount of products to claim as 1st party exclusives. If that happened, Madden fanatics would have to own a MS console just to play their precious game. I am curious as to whether or not MS and EA think that people would actually go through with that. That is a fairly large assumption that would possibly lead to people buying some Sega Sports knock-off football title and boycotting Madden altogether. Then again, I know a lot of people that own a gaming console just to play Madden, so maybe it's not all that crazy.

It also raises the question of whether or not the quality of the games would diminish or greatly increase. I think if it did happen, the quality of their games would increase. EA would not only have their own funding which is a rather large amount of money, but they would have Microsoft's immense pile of cash behind them as well. Developers would only have to focus on one platform, either having smaller teams cutting costs even more, or having games out sooner due to the amount of people able to work on them. Microsoft would push these developers to produce the best product possible to compete with Sony's first party lineup and other Microsoft first party developers would benefit from having access to EA's facilities and technology. There are definitely a lot of benefits for both MS and EA in this deal if it ever came to fruition.

So yeah... this is still just a rumor, I know. I know a lot of people will say that because EA produces games for every platform known to man, that this deal would actually be a bad move. I'm no expert, but I assume that producing games for that many platforms has to be pretty damn expensive. Still, EA makes a lot of money doing what they do now, so I have no idea if a deal like this would actually be beneficial or not.

Anyway, it is definitely an interesting thought and a look into the way things are going to be in the future. Are we going to see nonstop battling like this with the next consoles? It seems like every week now that Microsoft and Sony are pulling something trying to outdo each other. I know right now, at this particular point in time, that we are all benefiting from this--price drops, rebates, exclusive titles, new console models, package deals, etc., but when will it just get sickening... or will it at all? I am just hoping that the games never suffer from all of this crazy competition. Microsoft and Sony can fight over us all they want as long as they keep pumping out quality games in an attempt to seduce us to their side. If by Microsoft acquiring EA means that EA will produce truly amazing games, then so be it. That will only lead to Sony wanting to compete with them by creating, at least, equally stunning games. Everybody still wins.

Should be an interesting next few years.

So... BlazBlue...
Steel Squirrel | 12:36 AM on 08.06.2009 34 comments

I have really been on the fence about picking up BlazBlue. I keep hearing and reading all of this crazy praise for it and it seemed like 1up practically wanted to have sex with it. I am intrigued...

So I just wanted to hear from some of you guys what it is about this game that makes it worth picking up. I know this may have been a better fit in the forums, but I never post anything anymore so just humor me without being a dickhead.

See... I like fighting games a lot, the problem is... Street Fighter IV just spells perfection to me. Now I see that a lot of you actually prefer BlazBlue to SFIV and this is making me very, very curious. On the other hand, there are some people that are saying if you are really into Street Fighter or KOF... this game may not be right for you, that the pace is quite different.

I have also heard that it is completely too flashy, over-the-top, and fucking noisy, but i mean... is the combat super-solid or what? I just want to know what you love so much about BlazBlue that makes it worth 60 bucks. I love me some good fighting games and this game looks fucking beautiful. I am just afraid to make the leap. I love my 60 dollars and I love my SFIV... but perhaps there is room in my life for another 2D attraction.

I guess I could just rent it and find out, but then I couldn't write this blog and leave you this morsel of internet goodness... humanity at its finest.

John Woo's Stranglehold - $9.99 @ Gamestop
Steel Squirrel | 5:29 PM on 02.08.2009 20 comments

I just bought it yesterday. I haven't played it yet, but with the Edge card or whatever the hell it's called... you can pick up this game for around $8.75 - used.

You should go buy it. It is the only Max Payne-like game this generation (that I've noticed) and that is a fucking steal of a deal. Plus you get to be Chow Yun Fat and fly all over the place killing half of Hong Kong. That's worth 9 bucks to me!

I think it got a bunch of 7's across the board in reviews, so that's not too shabby for a 9 dollar game.

Anyway, just here to inform in case some of you didn't know it was on sale.

I think Shadowrun was also $9.99 and Perfect Dark Zero is $4.99. So yeah, there are some cheap ass games at Gamestop this weekend. Personally, Stranglehold was really the only one worth buying.

Yup... that's about it.

**Oh, while I'm at it... I also noticed that Mass Effect was $14.99. If you still haven't played Mass Effect, there is no reason not to buy it at that price.**
