T-shirt Time! - 8-Bit Investigation
SteamyV | 12:33 PM on 04.07.2008 3 comments

It's Monday, which means it's new shirt day over at Threadless.

There are a few interesting shirts this week, including what I believe to be their first hand-dyed tee. Also, since it's Threadless, there are also some inanimate objects with smiley faces and pithy comments. Hipsters rejoice!

However, the shirt I wanted to showcase for the Dtoid community is the following design, created by Threadless user fatheed (aka Aled Lewis).

8-Bit Investigation

Aled describes the design as "a tribute to the awesome Sierra games of the late 80s and early 90s that I grew up on." If wearing an 8-bit crime scene on your chest sounds like a good time, click the picture above or the direct link below to order.

RUMORTOID: The Witcher coming to 360/PS3
SteamyV | 2:56 PM on 02.21.2008 10 comments

Sarcastic Gamer is reporting on some very loose talk regarding the confirmation of an eventual Xbox 360/PSTriple port of The Witcher.

The "proof" from the article:

Yesterday, one of the leading Polish gaming-related websites, Gram.pl, reported that Tomasz Jonarski, a CD Projekt RED employee, accidentally spilled the goods on a social web portal. In his “duty” profile field, he stated “Working on creating the technologies for The Witcher game on the next generation consoles: Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.”

No link to the profile in question is provided, though I could care less since the alleged information has probably been removed already. That, and I assume it would be in Polish, which is useless (to me).

As Sarcastic Gamer mentions, releasing a PC-only game that isn't WoW or something from a similarly A-List franchise isn't the best path to profitability, so a port is almost inevitable.

Personally, I never paid much attention to The Witcher from the outset since I lack a decent gaming PC. A console port would certainly spurn some interest in myself. What does Dtoid think?

Anyone going to the Detroit Auto Show this weekend? [NVGR]
SteamyV | 5:38 PM on 01.15.2008 3 comments

As most know, the Motor City is responsible for some remarkably assy failures in this world. But we should all remember that Detroit has also provided large helpings of awesome and win.

One such win is the annual North American International Auto Show, which will be open to the public from Saturday, January 19 through Sunday the 27th. Like the (old) E3 of cars, the NAIAS is one of the larger car conventions in the world, involving nearly every major car manufacturer in the world. The show is often the public's first chance to see upcoming production models, plus there are always plenty of ridiculous concept cars that aren't this and therefore need to GTFO.

But regardless, the show is a metric assload of fun. This will be my second year attending the show, as last year was AMAZING. We chat up the reps (read: booth babes, especially Dodge for some reason), take TONS of pictures, and generally revel in the mechanical beauty all around.

Myself and a few friends will be arriving on Friday, January 18. Attentive readers might have noticed we're getting there a day before the show opens, and may have assumed we'll be checking into our hotel and getting some rest for the show the next morning.

However, anyone who knows anything about Detroit knows we're sure as shit not staying in Detroit. For across the river lies the promised land. A land of strippers, booze and cigarettes boxes decorated with pictures of dead babies.

The mystical land of...

If by some great coincidence any of you Dtoiders will be in Windsor this Friday or Saturday, let me know in the comments. I'll be amongst friends at the Honest Lawyer on Ouellette Ave for at least part of both nights. Come for drinks, stay for bewbs. Also, shawarma.

Duke Nukem Whenever Teaser Tomorrow
SteamyV | 4:33 PM on 12.18.2007 26 comments

Kotaku has a (currently broken) link to the 3D Realms forums. A post from George Broussard reads as follows:

<copypasta>

"Last Saturday we had our annual company Christmas party. It was a lot of fun as usual but it featured one special surprise. It turns out that several people had been secretly working late nights and into the wee hours of the morning preparing a special video for those at the party. They created a short teaser for Duke Nukem Forever.

After seeing the teaser we thought it was something we should share with all of you and while it's just a teaser, rest assured more is coming.

Tomorrow, Wednesday the 19th, around noon CST, we will release the first teaser trailer from Duke Nukem Forever. To tide you over until then, here is a screen shot taken from the teaser.

Thank you for being fans of the game and for your continued patience.

I'd like to thank the people on the team that worked so hard to create this teaser and the friends of 3DR that helped create it (Jeremy Soule and Julian Soule, Frank Bry, Jason Evigan and of course, Jon St. John)."

Let the disappointment begin!

Child's Play auction from The OneUps (last day!)
SteamyV | 3:32 PM on 12.11.2007 1 comments

OneUp Studios, purveyors of fine video game-inspired tunes, are auctioning off a complete collection of their body of work with the proceeds going directly to Child's Play. Given the involvement of our very own Dale North with the OneUps, I was surprised that I haven't seen this mentioned already. If it has been and I fail at searching Dtoid, my preemptive one word excuse for the repost is "Charity."

From the auction description:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In support Penny Arcade's amazing, gamer-centric charity, Child's Play, video game music label OneUp Studios is auctioning off a collection of albums representing the entire span of its music history. This includes 12 albums (14 discs) of music, two limited editions T-Shirts, and sheet music. Here is a detailed list of the contents:

Alex Bill is an avid reader of Destructoid but not Japanator because he doesn't care much for anime, a fan of the video game cover band The One-Ups, and wants nothing more out of life than for you to contribute to the great cause that is Child's Play. Also, seeing two fourteen year old Thai boys beat each other to a bloody pulp would be pretty sw33t.
