Rumortoid: Sony's next firmware will contain in-game XMB and other things
SoopaFly TNT | 10:43 PM on 05.18.2008 13 comments

Sony..... just say fuck it and give us something !!!!!

I thought this was interesting, but the rumor has it that Sony will have the long anticipated in-game XMB might be in the next firmware. Hopefully this is more truth than rumor. I know that everyone, including myself, has been waiting for this for a long time. I enjoyed this feature on my 360 and hopefully Sony does it right. This "insider" also claims that there will be an "achievement" system that will be available for 70% of the existing games that is something like the 360. Personally, I am more excited about the trophy room in Home, but I guess this will do for the mean time. Also they are doing some stuff to Stardust if anyone plays that. The guy also said that Sony want the firmware to be out before MGS4. Again, I will put the disclaimer out there that this is what the one guy said he heard from a Sony rep. The link is below. If this is old news I apologize. I just hope there is more truth to this than rumor.

@ Reaprar

The 2D Trophy system is the same thing as the one that will be in Home. You will be able to view your trophies via the XMB, and go into Home and view them in 3D in your trophy room.

The rumor is that the 2D portion of the system that is viewable in the XMB will be in the next firmware update, which would be awesome so we could start collecting the trophies to put in home once it finally comes out.

Yeah, we’ve been hearing that in-game XMB will be here this summer, and apparently, the 2.4 update is supposed to be a big one. Seeing as we just had v2.35, we’ve got to be pretty close.

I'd say maybe in... 2 weeks.

Isn't the achievement thing "trophies" from PSHome? I remember reading something about that idea before. If so, is the Home open beta coming soon?

In game XMB would be perfect, hopefully they'll bring in the custom soundtrack feature as well.

@rmsk8r05

They've already incorporated that in a couple games. Super Stardust is on of them.

From a numbering perspective, I'd expect the "big" firmware update to be 2.5 or 3.0.

i hope so..

does this mean cross game invites & global friends list too?

It'd makes sense that Sony'd want it out before MGS4, that's a high-profile exclusive, they'd want it running perfectly in every possible way. And yeah, we've been hearing in-game XMB should be here by the summer.

whenever it comes out i believe it'll be polished.

It should have been there in the first place, and is the one thing I hate about my PS3.

 about me

Sup DTOID. I am really big into gaming and comics. I am a proud owner of a PS3 and Wii. I just recently sold my XBOX360 because I was having a lot of issues with mine, but thinking about picking one up again in the future when hardware issue get better. I even play my PSP when I am on the road. I am into FPS, sports games and anything that is fun. My first gaming experience was when my dad brought home an Atari 2600 and we use to play tennis on there for hours. From there the passion grew.
