They both have their own strong points, the M$ rumor is probably false. I have both so if you want solid games that will come out soon go with the PSP if you want a large library of alright and awesome games go for the DS.
The DS has nintendo games, so thats a plus. I personally feel the DS is better, but I use my PSP more, due to it's ability to play music and movies. Plus, there a some good games. Not nearly as many as the DS has. It depends on your tastes really. The DS is all about originality and new shit, whereas the PSP is the home of souped up remakes and PS2 ports. Either way, you really can't lose though.
lern 2 spk goodr. Also neither is better, and get both eventually.
Get a DS and an R4 for multimedia and not roms. You're laughing all the way to the bank.
I say DS. The DS has such a wide variety of games and it's so incredibly fun. There's always something new on it as well. PSP has things like movies and other features, but it doesn't have half as many games.
No, PSP doesn't have half as many games, but it does have FF Tactics remake, and being able to play that wherever i want makes it worthwhile
I own both a PSP and Nintendo DS and I would recommend a PSP if you want a much deeper experience in your games.
Both handhels offer different experiences and the PSP caters to mine (I'm a shooter fan). I have about 10 DS titles and while they're fun, they loose their appeal very quickly imho. The PSP I only have about 5 games, but those games I'd much rather play on the road or lunch break at work.
What I would do is make a list of games you are interested in on both systems and watch the video reviews of the games over at Gametrailers. That should give you a better idea as to what would entertain you more.
I agree with VWGTI, I prefer my PSP. If you're into wierd Jap shit, go with the DS, otherwise, PSP all the way. It's got metal gear solid, FF Tactics, and fucking FF7 Crisis Core coming out, plus a real Kingdom Hearts game, if that's your thing
They both have their ups and downs. The DS is widely regarded by non-gamers to be just another kiddy toy, so there's a bit of a stigma attached to just playing it in public. If you're an adult with a DS, it probably means you're molesting children on it. However, it has an enormous library and there are a lot of high quality titles for it.
The PSP is the "cool" handheld. It isn't quite as humiliating to use it in public. The game selection is generally more mature, but it doesn't have quite the range of selection as the DS. Technically that's made up by the media UMDs, but you'd be hard pressed to find them in stores now.
Hell, just buy them both. They both have their upsides.
Yeah, he's right, buy both when you can afford them. That's what I did. I bought the new Daxter psp pack, and my wife has a fucking pink DS. Everything fucking pink, even my halo character online.
@bluemeep
Humiliating? DS? I was on a bus today, playing Phantom Hourglass, and I swear there were literally 7 other people playing DS, including the Japanese guy next to me playing FF3 in Japanese. There were no children in sight.
PSP hand s down if not just for the ease of moding and hacking the software you can play up to Sega games on it i believe maybe even ps1 games. If not for that there is an increasingly large selections of good games.
Yeah, I don't know what he is talking about. Humiliating? I play my wife's fucking pink DS, maybe then you would feel odd. Honestly, most people dont care about the color. They're just intersted in the touch screen. Most people think it's cool
Ever get into a furious Puzzle League match with someone while waiting for a table at a restaurant? You'll get some looks.
It's probably one of those locational issues.
If you going for portability go with DS. The DS battery will last 7-10 hours between charges while psp lasts only 3-5. If you get a PSP2000 and an the old PSP battery you can double it to 6-10. DS games have no load times which means if you only have a few minutes to play you can get right into the game instead of waiting for load times. Both are good but I would go with DS.
Best to buy both, but if you want a different game experience, I'd start a DS. Brain Training 2, Zelda Phantom Hourglass, Front Mission DS and Ninja Gaiden DS are highly recommended.
If you opt for a PSP first try Burnout Legends and Dominator, Brave Story, FF games. Video playback is good on it if you want convert tv and film stuff onto it. There's software online that will help you do this called PSP Video 9.
As for gaming in public, I feel no shame at all playing my DS or PSP when out. That's what they were made for, to get you out of the house. Some people read books, listen to music or watch iPod videos, I play my handhelds. You people should too, no matter what the scare mongers on tv news tell you.
Like most people here, I think both are a good choice. However the DS DOES have some preetty good/interesting games.
It's not just pink guys. It's fucking pink.
wow I guess everyone with a PSP automatically has the authority to act like a douchebag.... :|
DS all the way
Forget the DS and PSP. Buy this. It runs Doom AND graphs trig problems. WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT!?
I gotta say, in all cerealness, I love my DS but the PSP slim is getting all my attention right now between ff tactics and metal gear portable ops
I prefer DS myself but whatever gives you the greater nerdgasm is the one for you.
I had a psp for a year, and traded it for the ds, I like the fact I can get gba games, and the ds games are cool. Though the psp games do look better and with the slim helping with load times, that helps. But I would say the ds a big library, good battery, and some clever ways to play games.
I'm so lame with my TI-84 Plus/Silver (I don't remember). Honestly, I can't say because all I have is a DS, and all I play on it is GBA FE.
I think the DS is a better handheld, simply because it has a much larger variety of games. However, the thing about the PSP, especially the new model, is it doesn't feel like a handheld. It just looks and plays like a small console, and you see this even more when you plug it into your TV. So go with the DS for the game selection, but, as VWGTI said, the PSP definitely provides a deeper experience overall.
Price wise the DS is much better. But game wise, the PsP has a couple of good games out right now that are really awesome. The DS has alot of good games too, but alot of them are just novelty and loose there fun factor pretty fast, to me at least.
Down side to PSP is that there sort of fragile, the slims are even more fragile, watch that screen, if you dont, it WILL get a crack in it.
There both good systems though, really i think which ever one you get, you'll be happy with it.
thankyou fine sirs
