In before Yahtzee wannabeeeeeeeeeeee.
Anyways, I saw this earlier and he makes some very good points.. from what I understood. He mumbles..
A lot.
@Scrixx
True he does mumble, but I can hear him fine.
bitch, bitch, bitch
Your preaching to the choir at this point. BTW Gamestop isnt going anywhere, they have a model that prints money for them. I dig that he's trying to "spread the word", but any one that watches this on the net most likely already knows it. I know if I was the man behind Gamestop, I wouldnt change shit and continue to roll in large piles of money.
I only buy new, sealed games from GameStop. Sure, it technically makes me a corporate whore, but at the same time, I don't trade mine back to them. If I do trade, I use Goozex. It's much more fair, and more or less is an even trade.
It's so damn trendy to hate GameStop nowadays. I think I'm the only one who can tolerate the crap they keep spewing when you buy a game. Also, it's common sense to realize that sites like eBay and others that deal with "game trading" are going to cost less. I never trade my games in, and if I did would trade them with someone I know.
I don't think anybody would want to work at GameStop unless they were 14 years old. They pay what, minimum wage?
& yes GameStop sucks.
They sell opened games as new,
They give virtually nothing for trade ins,
Most employees are self-righteous dweebs w/ attitude problems (which we all know is over-compensation for their low self-esteem),
They monopolize pre-orders & annoy the hell out of you to pre-order everything coming out in the next year every time you so much as wander by.
I've said this before in the forums, but I'll repeat it: I actually like the people who work at my local GameStop. They helped me find a bundle pack for Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii when it came out, and don't constantly shove preorders down my throat.
Yes, a lot of the chain's policies are bullshit, especially with used games, but I'm sick of people extending that hatred to the people who actually work there. (^ TooMuchCoffeeMan, I'm looking at you.) Stores are more than their corporate namesake, and their way of doing business is often more influenced by the people who are actually working there than some evil, money-grubbing CEO half a continent away.
If the manager and the people who are employed there are actually nice and want to be at that store, then your experience for the most part will be far better than some small-town-mom-and-pop store that hired the bratty teen who hates his life and everyone in it.
And finally, if you hate GameStop so much DON'T FUCKING PATRONIZE THEM AND SHUT UP.
Yea doesnt it suck when a company creates a successful buisness model and alienates a few "hardcore gamers" in the process.
I totally agree, it sucks when people are successful at making money...
BTW, they dont pay minimum wage, and if they do someone needs to learn how to ask for a better pay rate.
this is brilliant
i'll buy used for my old games that aren't in print anymore but if i can buy it new i will because some underpayed saps put a lot of time and effort into making the game i actually want and should be payed for it
I only buy my games at small Mom n' Pop outlets like Wal-mart, Best Buy, and Amazon.
Honestly, I never have had a problem with GameStop. Of course, I rarely shop there. The last game I bought from a GS was 'Space Invaders Extreme,' and it came wrapped rather than 'open and inserted.'
Furthermore, I keep every game I sell (partly because I am a pack rat; partly because of trade-in values).
So ... yeah.
@Reaprar
Whaa?
I dislike most Hip Hops and I think Flim Flams are for the birds.
Ever since my local video game store closed down, my EB is the closest place to but games. I only use EB games to buy new sealed games and sometimes pre-order a game for the collectors edition or pre-order bonus. I don''t understand why the video game industry hates pre-owned games so much, yet they always give EB/Gamestop the best pre-order bonuses.
The people who work at my store aren't too bad either, a few are, but most are OK. Plus if you deal with half the customers they gotta deal with, you'd treat everyone pretty badly. I know exactly what this guy is talking about when it comes to some of those customers, he's not making that stuff up. There are people do like to hang out at EB/Gamestops and talk to the employees about their gaming achievements.
@Kinji
"I don''t understand why the video game industry hates pre-owned games so much, yet they always give EB/Gamestop the best pre-order bonuses."
If you offer pre-order goodies to Best Buy or Circuit City, you are also competing with the rest of the store for the attention of the consumer.
Sure, a more 'informed' gamer will go to where the best deal is at, but GS is exclusively tailored to the video game market. Therefore, it makes the most sense to work with an outlet that is guaranteed to have a much more comprehensive push for such trinkets.
just started watching this guy and yeah he's nailed it on the head, but he forgot to mention that not all gamestops are the same "money hungry won't let you leave with a new copy store like the one he was working for"
some like mine are actually good and they actually care about the customer, hell they even told a couple of customer who come in with a butt load of games to just craigslist there stuff and theyed make more money
the video's good...but he's trying to talk too fast...which makes him hard to understand what he's saying.
still...I don't buy new games from there. Rarely used games if I can find them cheaper elsewhere or online. I go into gamestop to browse about and hopefully find a game I wanted to buy and do so elsewhere.
I watched all episodes and everyone should do this. I knew that Gamespot was BS, but some of his information was new to me. Like the "check pockets before leaving the store" thing. Wow just wow, they even treat their employees like thieves. I hope Jim will post this on front page.
Protip: It's not as bad as he makes it seem, store wise at least. He worked at horrible store that actually followed policies. Most managers don't give a shit unless the DM comes. The higher ups and the corporation as a whole though, total money grubbing fuckwits. Yeah, I'm looking at you Jason Sapp, regional manager of my store.
@SWE3tMadness
I'm not saying there aren't any GameStops that exist that have a decent human being working there. But you ask around & you'll find out that it takes a certain type of person to enjoy working there. & that type of person is exactly what i described.
Also, no I'm not going to just "SHUT UP"; i'm free to express my distastes for their policies, behavior & attitudes. You think companies who are corrupt or just plain shitty to their customers deserve apathy? apparently so.
