My Too Human Buying Experience
Sk8nOB | 1:43 PM on 08.23.2008 29 comments

Long story short, I walk into my local GameStop to pick up Too Human simply because I enjoyed the demo and figured I wouldn't let a bunch of reviewers dictate my spending habits (like they've done in the past). So I walk up to the counter and ask if they have Too Human, and the girl gets it for me and says: "You know if you want a good game you should get Star Wars: The Force Unleashed." This pissed me off for 3 reasons:

1) The game isn't even out yet. If that was her attempt to get me to pre-order it she did a shitty job.

2) She could have at least waited until I left the store to mock me (I'm willing to bet she did anyway).

3) She assumed I give a shit about what she thinks.

Anyway, the game is good enough that I don't feel like a sucker for buying it, and a simple patch could get rid of the one thing that bothers me the most (the unskippable cutscene when you die). That's it, I just needed to vent.

She wants you to preorder it for her, thus giving her qouta or whatever met. I find a lot of people (especially at Gamestop) learn most of their game knowledge through word-of-mouth from customers and friends. We all know that it just takes one douchebag to spread something false and it takes another to take it as real. In short, I dont talk to gamestop people that much anymore whenever Im in there.

The problem is you still bought a game.. I would have just walked out and said "No thanks".

I was at gamestop myself yesterday and the chick there was hitting on me and gave me free stuff. (No not stds).

I even got her free "store copy" of MGS4 strat guide.

hehe, your story is the reason I try my hardest not to talk to the people behind the counter. I had people trying to get me to pre-order WiiFit.... fuck that, Im 5'9" and 145. Im a bean pole. Come out with WiiFat and I might bite.

If you wanted a good game you wouldn't have bought either. That Force Unleashed demo SUCKED and I don't see the controls being completely different in the full game to fix it.

I have to strong agree about that "not being able to skip the cutscene when you die" thing. Man that got old quick in the demo.

You should have pre-ordered Force Unleashed instead.

You should have bought Burnout Paradise.

But really, my Gamestop people know me so much, they automatically know what I want when I walk in the store, only to tell me they don't have it.

And they usually don't. That's when I kick myself.

I still love my Gamestop. I got some event Pokemanz from dem workers.

Course, it helps to know those workers....

You forgot to mention whether she was hot. The devil is in the details.

Why didn't you vent all over her face instead of here?

Redzie: If she wanted me to preorder it she could have just said, "By the way, would you like to pre-order blah blah blah?" No need for her to be condescending.

Heretic: I'm happy to see you're so concerned about my financial situation. Maybe we can meet somewhere for lunch and discuss it in greater detail.

Dephect: That's pretty much what I did. I looked at her and said, "Oh, OK...thank you."

Spitfire: I always avoid conversation with them, but when you go there to buy something it's kind of unavoidable, ya know?

HPV: I haven't had a chance to try the demo for force unleashed, but from what i hear it's a huge letdown.

Justice: Pretty much every review mentions the death scene, so Silicon Knights would be retarded not to patch it.

Lawlflip: pre-ordering in itself is a waste, especially for a game that will be available everywhere on day one.

Daxelman: Thanks, but I'm not big into racing games. Employees there are really hit or miss, so if you're cool with the ones by you then more power to ya.

Timmeh: She was not.

Javthegreat: Not in my personality to tell people off, plus I walked in 10 minutes before they closed so I felt bad to begin with.

Heretic: Not every game you buy has to be a Triple-A, 100%, A+, blow your socks off masterpiece. Plus, my "average" may be one person's "piece of shit" or vice versa; quick example: I thought The Dark Knight was a "good" movie, whereas other people think it's the greatest thing mankind has ever done. Worth my 10 bucks? Sure, but I wouldn't go and see it again. It's all relative.

Problem one: You bought a game from GameStop

Problem two: You supported that tool Dyack.

Reminds me of when Best Buy opened up near my town. I went in to purchase a headset for my PC and at the checkout line the cashier chick said to me "You're awesome!"
I felt dirty...so now try to avoid going to BB and most electronic/game stores altogether. Like they are trained to be extra "hip" to help sell products.

Notazombie: 1) It was more of an impulse to buy from Gamestop since I was passing it on the road anyway, plus they were almost guaranteed to have it in stock as opposed to say, a GameCrazy where it seems like they only carry 2 copies of every game. 2) I've got nothing against Dyack; yeah he's annoying but I just pretend he doesn't exist.

Blehman: Thank you.

Lurfadur: Ha, that sucks. Nothing like getting made fun of by a Best Buy cashier.

Nothing should be "good enough" after 10 years of waiting. Lol.

Also, Force Unleashed is definitely not a "letdown", IMHO.

Angelsdontburn: I haven't really been on the edge of my seat waiting for Too Human's release, so I don't factor that in. And Force being a letdown is only what I heard but I'll give the demo a shot eventually.

if you tought that too human was good, you should've known when it was supposed to come out. (you can also die in a fire IMO)

BTW NotAZombie why do you say Dyack is a tool? because hes supporting something he's worked hard on?

@Heretic

You misunderstood his post, he said the game was good enough for him, what this means is that whatever flaws it might have in his eyes he can overlook them and enjoy the game.

Perhaps you'll understand things better when you grow up and realize your internet fame means nothing in the real world and please stop writing blogs and then stretching out that material on the comments section so much, you write on blog, get good replies and every reply from you after that is you using the blog material but worded in a different manner, THAT'S pathetic.

@mee

Another example of why this place needs stricter rules and mass bannings.

You're a fucking moron, he knew when the game came out, he bought AFTER trying the demo, they tried to offer him Force Unleashed which is not out yet.

He's a free lesson for you and heretic, reading comprehension is your friend, take this lesson to heart and reap the rewards that come with it.

Glad you like the game, I played the demo and an hour later I bought the full game and don't regret, I played co-op for 5 hours last night and had a blast, its nice to see people actually trying the game instead of reading some number by a stranger and going, SHIT SUX WONT BOTHER WITH IT.

Sad really, we have gamefly and all these other local rental stores and the sheep of the world won't even try it based on what someone on the internet said.

That's why I will wait a while, years in some cases, to buy a decent game. I am an unbelievably cheap bastard. (Just ask the PS3 FNF's)

Well, she is correct, The Force Unleashed is a fun game. But it was a lame attempt to get you to pre-order. But that is how GameStop works. You give them $5 for a pre-order, and they don't owe you shit until the game comes out. That is $5 they are just sitting on. Over time, that number will become huge, so GameStop has a ton of money with $0 in losses.

The Force Unleashed demo is not a "letdown" unless you set your expectations to unreachable heights.

It's a way better game than Too Human, that's for sure.
