When it comes to video games I am obsessive-compulsive about beating them. If I start a game I must finish it. No matter how bad, or how hard it is I will not rest until the ending credits have rolled across the screen. Like Bruce Hornsby says ... that's just the way it is!

Random Musings of a Dragon

Right now I would like to be playing MGS4, but I can't. I can't because in order to really play MGS4 (or any MGS game for that matter), I need at least an hour of play time to devote to the game. This is because 75% of the time spent playing the game is spent watching cut scenes and you can't simply cut the game off or save in the middle of a scene. You have to watch it all the way through, hence why you need time to devote to the game. I don't have an hour right now to play the game though so I thought I would simply throw out some thoughts I have had lately about the gaming community, the Dtoid community, and other random musings.

1) Let me start by saying I am discovering I really love the Dtoid community. I have only been an active member for about 3 weeks now, but I am hooked. I love reading all the posts by all the community members and it's great to finally have a place I can share my ideas with people who will listen and give feedback. I am definately addicted.

2) The mid-season finale of Battlestar Galactica was incredible. I haven't experienced that many different emotions while watching an hour of television in a long time. The show continues to be the best drama on TV.

3) I am almost positive I am addicted to XBOX360 achievements and I'm not sure what to do about this addiction.

4) Insomniac is opening up a new game studio here in my home town of Raleigh, NC. I would really like to apply for one of their "game tester" positions in the new offices. However this would require me takking a huge pay cut, and making only 1/3 of the money I make now. My feelings on the matter are very mixed.

5) I have owned Mario Galaxy now for 6 months and I still haven't even broken the seal on the package. I think I fail at life because of this!

6) I took a vacation day last Friday off work to sit at home and play MGS4. I woke up at 8AM, starting playing at 8:20AM, and didn't stop until 7:30PM that night. I might have a slight MGS4 addiction.

7) I can't believe I have to wait until next January to see the final half of the final season of BSG. That's just a crime against humanity.

8) I'm in a constant state of fear that I'm playing MGS4 to loud and that my neighbors are going to call the cops on me.

9) I honestly wonder if anyone reads my blog. I wonder if anyone is even reading this post. My girlfriend and my best friend Chris are probably my most devoted readers, and for that I thank them.

10) What I listened to while I wrote this post ...

Yeah, no worries on the post readership. Us D-toiders tend to read almost everyone's posts.

I'm saying this now: your blog may never get comments but someone has read it guaranteed. Don't let comments stop you from blogging.

If you hate the job you have now, you should take the pay cut for sure. Don't work yourself to death and always enjoy your job.

I don't think I could take a pay cut to play broken games over and over again.

Hehe, yeah Metal Gear Solid games are like that. Its better if you know that ahead of time so you can plan for it. I seriously paused the game once before I made the last shot to kill a boss because I had to go play some Frisbee Football. When I came back, I made some scrambled eggs, toast and a drink, un-paused, killed the boss and sat back to enjoy the 40 minutes of plot. I love it and its my favorite of the series! I can see people not liking that in their gaming experience though, especially if its hard to find the time.

Glad your enjoying D-Toid! This site and everyone here is pretty great. I'm also new around here (4 months or so) and don't blog much really as I find that I tend to ramble a lot and no one wants to read a wall of text (see my Heavenly Sword rant) but I do read your stuff from time to time.

Love the dragon pics by the way. Big thumbs up for that as I am a huge nerd for dragons, RAWR!

I marathoned my way through MGS4 in three days, but now I'm facing a similar problem in playing . I'm finding it hard to jump back in because it feels blasphemous to skip cutscenes and I'm unable to dedicate as much time.

As for BSG, I've honestly never even seen a single episode. I'm an enormous fan of Sci-Fi, and I literally schedule my days around watching the two episodes Star Trek: Voyager at 4pm on Spike. If I got G4TV, I'd make time for ST:TNG as well.
Honestly, I've always figured that if BSG was successful, it'd have to be similar to CSI or whatever other popular garbage is out there. (Note: I'm absolutely no fan of Lost or Heroes) Perhaps I'll have to check it out after all.

Lastly, after posting on your blog about GTA4 DLC and receiving a level-headed response, I added you as a friend - so I read your posts.
