The new cinematic trailer for World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King was released today on Blizzard's website. I highly recommend you click on the link above and check it out. It doesn't matter whether you are a fan of the game or not, every single gamer out there can appreciate this trailer for how incredible it is. Blizzard just keeps setting the standard for CGI in PC games, actually in all games for that matter, and it doesn't let up in this most recent one.
So click on the link and watch it. I promise you won't regret you did. I have also posted a bunch of pictures from the trailer below. Enjoy and let me know what you think.
[UPDATE] I was able to embed the video, so now you can view it below without having to go to the Blizzard site.
Blizzard has arguably the best digital arts team on the planet. To be fair, they have never had to make a feature length film, but I'd like to see them give it a try.
That was mindblowing. To be honest though, I expected it to give me WoW-lust more (as the BC trailer did), and feature the famous character montage. Still, the narrative was chilling, particular having played WC3.
The cinematics for WoW always made me feel like I was hoodwinked when I played the game :P. I always thought putting all that story and artistic potential into an MMO like it is did the people who created it a great disservice. The world in WoW for me seemed to largely be pretty lifeless and flat, half the people playing it aren't even aware of who the characters are, their motivations and why they are killing/helping them.
Maybe they'll make another RTS game in the future or a single-player RPG that delivers a decent experience based on the world they built.
Hey I just read your posts about being addicted. I get where you're coming from now: I hear you about not being able to pause the game, and making a new character on a random server when your main server was down :)
I certainly never got in as deep as you did so far as raiding: never been inside BWL, and I've only heard numerous stories about Naxx from a friend that was in the Vodka guild (world first on something or other . . . )
I guess my view point is a bit more sympathetic to what the game is and how its designed. I'll write a blog article about it, I think. Not in argument of your addiction (I'm not a complete jerk), but just to register a different POV of the addictive qualities of the game and the genre.
Wow, that whole cinematic just oozed badass. I have no intention of actually playing WoW, but can still appreciate the shiny, shiny graphical masterpiece here.

When it comes to video games I am obsessive-compulsive about beating them. If I start a game I must finish it. No matter how bad, or how hard it is I will not rest until the ending credits have rolled across the screen. Like Bruce Hornsby says ... that's just the way it is!

I have to say both are fairly amazing. Still funny that they came out so close to each other.
