Ruin it? Don't you know CGI makes everything better? We're not in the 1930's anymore. Not everything has to be made in some ugly hand-drawn 2D abortion.
Ah, I heard this earlier today too. It made me want to run out and get the movie again so I can soak up the win before the fail is released.
Could be great, could be terrible, but no matter what we'll always have the original. Ah, good terrifying times.
Also, Rockadoodledoo...anyone remember that?

Even if it turns out palatable (which I rather doubt), there's no way in heck it's going to stand up to the original...I really wish they'd leave well enough alone over there in Hollywood.
Actually, this is supposed to be closer to the book, which didn't have any of the magic and mysticism of the film. Don Bluth added those to the movie because fantasy was the hot thing at the time.
Also, the combination of animation and live action wasn't the reason that Alvin and the Chipmunks sucked. It could have been animated by Miyazaki and it still would have been a massive turd.
Are you serious?? Secret of NIMH was awesome. Damn, I love that film. Remaking it is pointless.
Hey at least we have the traditionally animated Princess and the Frog to look forward to, right? I for one am excited for it.

And while I'm here, I might was well say that yes, Nukka Jdav I remember Rock-A-Doodle: it was a terrible, terrible movie.
I just bought the DVD online last month and watched it again for the first time in 14 or so years. Still really good, but IMO some parts seemed a little rushed.
What is with the movie industry taking all these animated movies/TV shows and turning them into live action anyways? Cowboy Bebop, Ghost In The Shell, and Akira are supposed to be getting redone in live action. Perhaps "old school" vs CGI animation will become our generations' black & white vs colored film versions.

To be fair, as Shipero pointed out, it's fair to say that "The Secret of NIMH" was a massive abortion of an adaptation as far as faithfulness to the original source due to the whole mystical vibe that Don Bluth and his team added into the movie that was totally not in the books. That being said, I will admit that I personally much preferred the movie to the book and I liked the mystic aspect of the film because, from a mouse's point of view, surely anything technology-related would seem to be mystical and magical.
There's an optimistic part of me that feels that there is room for a more literal adaptation of the book. I personally would not be bothered by the CGI/live-action idea seeing as there are very little humans in the book and given today's film climate, I can't see this being done hand-animated as opposed to CGI animated. That being said, there's a part of me that is very suspicious as to whether or not this film could do the story justice, whether it decides to move closer to the source or farther as with the animated film.
Lastly, the score to "The Secret of NIMH" is one of the most beautiful scores ever written. I can't really imagine a score for a remake that could possibly even approach what Jerry Goldsmith did with the score to the animated film.

Don Bluth was always Disney Jr (which is ironic, because he used to work for Disney). While he had a few hits, most of his movies were way too oddball/poor to make it mainstream.
I did like Nimh, All Dogs Go to Heaven, and a few others though.

I can't wait for the crappy tie-in game c/o THQ with 1000 gamerscore obtainable in an hour or less. Thanks, Hollywood remake culture!
