Gamer Limit’s "Piece of Heart" 2009 Game Marathon for Child’s Play Charity

// Submitted @ 12:20 PM on 12.04.2009

Most of us here at Destructoid are pretty damn passionate about playing video games, and many of us have done some crazy things in the name of gaming. We’ve camped out in sub freezing temperatures to buy a console the day it came out. We’ve put on extravagant costumes and gone to conventions to show off our love for a certain game character. We’ve even flown half way across the world to meet a bunch of fellow gamers we’ve only ever had contact with over the internet. Yep, I think it’s safe to say we’ve all done a lot of crazy thing thanks to our deeply rooted passion for gaming.

Another passionate group of gamers went out and created an online comic strip we all know as Penny Arcade, and over the past 5 years those guys have sponsored the Child’s Play charity. Since its inception, the charity has raised over $5 million in donations for sick kids in children’s hospitals throughout the world.

As many of you know, I’m a senior writer over at Gamer Limit.com. This year, the Gamer Limit staff have decided to put our passion for gaming to good use to help the Child’s Play charity. To do this we have put together the Piece of Heart gaming marathon.

Starting at 5PM (CST) on December 4th (TODAY!) Gamer Limit staff members will convene at locations in both the United States and Australia for a 48 hour gaming marathon to help raise awareness and donations for Child’s Play. Both locations will be hosting live video streams of both participants and game footage as the race each other through the majority of the Ratchet and Clank series. You can tune in at any time during the event to root your team on, participate in contests, and even listen in during the live recording of the Limit Cast (Gamer Limit’s podcast).

You can go to THIS SITE and anytime to watch the live streams, chat with other viewers, and participate in the contests.

I was actually supposed to be at the U.S. marathon site to participate, but unfortunately I will not be able to make it. I was really looking forward to playing 48 straight hours of Ratchet and Clank, especially since I love the series so much. I will be watching online, and you’ll be able to find me in the main chat room located on the live video stream page.

The event starts today at 5PM CST. Please join us as we try to raise money to help support the Child’s Play charity. At any time, we encourage you to donate any spare cash to the cause. Every dollar goes towards making a sick child, somewhere in the world, smile for a little while with a game, book, or toy, and to relieve them from the pain and loneliness that being sick in hospital at such a young age brings.

All donations are handled via Chipin.com – meaning your generous gift goes directly to Child’s Play. For more information on the charity, visit their webpage at ChildsPlayCharity.Org.

I know how awesome all you Dtoid members are, so hopefully you will find some time in your hectically busy lives to stop on by and say hi, and maybe donate to a great cause.
