sorry for caps (because I feel those type of things are damn well best expressed by caps.) but to the serious matter here.
Title: No More Heroes Release Date: January 23, 2008 Genre: Action/Adventure System: Nintendo Wii As the big hyped up game around Dtoid and most hardcore gamers (or just...Suda51 loversl.) the game came out a week earlier than planned. Picking mine up with some awesome pride yesterday, I didn't pop the thing into my Wii until about 5 hours after purchase. (lookin for the new job, getting the food to eat so I can go at it forever, etc.) But did I enjoy it. and you besta bes enjoying it too for those who picked it up. So lets get into the review eh? Graphics Lets get this silly bit out the way first. If you're really hung up on graphics, well...I can't read minds as people either love or hate Cel Shaded graphics. I for one welcome them. (especially now if it means having any memories of Jet Grind/Set Radio.) Others just don't like it. Either way that's that. Sound Music's awesome. Plays when needed to. sound effects are crisp and clear and everything coming from either the Wiimote or tv sound awesome. For those kids who have an 360, Lumines Plus, and downloaded "Heavenly Star" by Genki Rockets, well...you go from there. I kinda laughed when I heard the song. Story The Story for this game is very much there. To be straight to the point, you're Travis Touchdown. An otaku and random kd who's in the winning to be the #1 Assassin. When you actually take control, you're ranked 11th out the 10. Of course you'll meet many other people like Miss. Crystal (who's as sexy and throws out her horny card more than anyone besides Travis in the game.) who breaks down how things go in order to rise to the top (pay the group she works for (UAA) in order to fight the next ranked Assassin.) Being just a no name otaku out of everyone, you sure are skilled apparently in both swordsmanship and "Wrasslin". But aside from that, you'll learn how when you learn new "Wrasslin" moves. Travis has been around the block. But not long enough to be known he's a rising Assassin. Thats where we come in to make sure of that to happen. Gameplay The meaty meat of it all. Outside the "fappish" sensation that occurs during the beam charging (the tutorial SAYS you can recharge it by waggling the Wiimote left and right but somehow it aint that fun.) the gameplay is as solid as it looks. Many thought it'd be pretty dull and boring just pushing A through the whole game. For me at least, it has enough mixup in the fighting so such a thing won't happen. "A" is your main attack with the sword, "B" is you physical "Stun" hit. (which sometimes leads to Wrestling moves.), "Z" is your residental Zelda Lock on, "C" is to put the camera behind Travis (in a cinematic way and all.) Move the nunchuck analog to move Travis around. Simple enough right? Not to forget, as you're fighting, many who's seen gameplay or trailers of the game will notice the Wii function takes place as a "deathblow". When a arrow comes across the screen pointing in which direction, there's your chance to finish him off (or...others if they happen to be caught within the slash.) For good. Same applies to Wrestling moves (cept they will require both the Wiimote and Nunchuck to move. I've only seen 1 move kill the opponent after I slammed them.) If your enemy is blocking your attacks. Mix it up and throw a punch for a stun. Enemy bombarding you with rush combos? Well evade by locking onto the enemy and pushing left or right on the Analog. If you time your dodge right, you'll be able to throw the enemy off guard for an attack. Marjority of the time you'll throw them off guard and be able to go into this "barrage combo" state to reward your dodge. Be aware though that this will work on bosses, but at some point they'll just block that shit. Outside of the fighting, there's more than enough stuff to do. Hang out at Travis's motel room (Ironically called "No More Heroes") and change his outfits (shades, jacket, shirt, jeans, belt.) equip a different weapon, check out the city's map, or check out all the junk he has to be called an Otaku. Even play with his cat Jeane. Please do. She's so cute. You can also save (well in this game, take a dump.) and be treated to seeing travis look like he's really trying to fap off in the bathroom. (where his hands are, that sudden "moan as he sits down") and in places that isn't his motel room, it really sounds like the toilet gets pretty clogged. ahe ahe? Now what are you doing for money? Well that's where the jobs come in. Your first job is a simple "gather and bring" job. Pretty much a race against time on how many you can bring. There's also jobs at the United Assassins Association (the UAA mentioned years above.) Where you can do different jobs to make some cash for the new line of clothes in the shop, or just to get ready for the next ranked fight. there's more than enough to do in this game at the start. you can either play straightforward or look around for the goodies. It's all up to you. Replay Value It's there. Oh it's there. Be it to get the best ranking on a mission/Job or to find all those random "balls" needed to give to that russian drunk guy. Missions and jobs can be redone as many times so nothing's stopping you. There's also somewhat of these "secret missions" where it's pretty much a game of Extra Survival ala Soul Calibur. (cept you're the one taking 1 hit = death.) They're fun and can get you some easy cash. One of the missions (and the way to fighting the 8th ranked assassin.) there's somewhat of a minigame where the enemy throws a baseball towards you. In a sense, you playing baseball but trying to knock down all the guys lined up. (i'm supposed to...assassinate guys right?) Just like a regular baseball game (sorta) you get 3 chances to swing before you strike out. I will say if you hit all the enemies lined up, YOU WILL GET A PAYDAY. The money does not stop flowing from these guys. But anyway. Conclusion GET THIS GAME. Not because I ranted on about the ins and outs of things you can do and my like of the game, but because it's pretty awesome already and we need good games like so that aren't always Nintendo A.K.A a strong third party support. Something Nintendo gets pretty scarse on compared to the Snes days. Let alone because this damn game was given with Toilet paper at LAUNCH. something I would've surely took if Japanese gamers weren't buying the game. Along with Suda's Autograph The only thing I have against the game is Miss Crystal's nasty acting english voice. Sometimes it works, other times it's like "who does this shit?" The orignal voice actor for Crystal (and just being that plan ole american voice.) worked much better than the current one. Also while riding the motorcycle, there were times I pretty much got stuck between things and couldn't move it out even if I switched in reverse. I had to get off the bike, run to the next block just to call the car to me. (which by the way is brought to you by a friend. who either complains or greets Travis.) This game doesn't deserve a rent. Just but it and be satisfied.

I LOVE this game... it is a lot of fun and was far better than I had hoped it would be... and I had high expectations for this game. Leaving aside the graphics, this is an excellent game and like Shin Oni says.. it is very much worth it to purchase this game.. show your support for good 3rd party games!
