Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And let's not forget that a good solid portion of the Wii owners out there won't play it unless it has 35 watered down minigames comprising the core gameplay.

Could you explain what you meant by this:
"Also, Ubisoft publishing this will have something to do with it."
I think that Ubisoft has done a horrible job promoting the game. They have done nothing at all for it. They just pushed the release date forward, printed 100,000 copies, and have sent it to die. I will buy it, but I don't know how many other people will. If you a serious gamer who also owns a Wii, you fucking better support this game!
Not every game can be a megaton hit.
And yes, 360 version PLEASE.

Suda 51 left a bad taste in some gamers mouths, not because of him, but rather the way that Capcom presented his other "cult game", killer7. Capcom largely totted this game around as "some kind of bad ass game where you shoot stuff, or some shit like that! Man, you've got guns and you go around blowing shit up!". I recall working at Gamestop and people being absolutely furious that they were mislead about the game. I don't think this was any of Suda's fault, but people see both of these as his games, I'm hoping it does well, I'm sure looking forward to it.
As for it not being a flop, I'd have to say I disagree. Well, somewhat. I could see this managing 200,000 copies, maybe 250k. But that's being optimistic. A more reality-based figure is probably 100k to 150k. Not quite a flop, but damn close.
The truly hardcore will buy it but that's probably it.
I know I'm picking it up because it's awesome and because we need to support these games or we won't contine to get them in the future. Speak with your wallets people.
What do you think the average meathead think when he walks into a video game store and looks at the games for the console he owns, be it the 360 or the Wii, and he sees No More Heroes?
He thinks "I've never heard of this before. Looks stupid." and buys Halo 3 or Mario Galaxy instead.
Actually, No More Heroes would probably sell best on the PS3. It's ownership is the most likely to read video game blogs on a daily basis, and the system has no competition on it other than Drake's Fortune.
It's sad when we can all agree that the average person wouldn't choose a Wii game with an f'n LIGHT SABER on the front of the box.
And, too bad there's not a demographic that picks up smaller development titles like NMH in the same way that the other group unhesitatingly picks up Carnival Games.
Wait there is a group like that: us*!
*only catch is we're WAY smaller than the Imagine Babiez "userbase"
This is the only game that has made me, I hate to say it, want to buy a Wii. I'm just not into Nintendo's overly interactive (waggle) shenanigans that they've been pulling lately. I'm not going to say "kiddie games," but it is pretty sad how games have been degraded to waggling a white block around and calling it controls. It just leaves you wanting something. And hopefully No More Heroes can at least fill the void for Wii owners. But since there seemingly new demographic is casual gamers, it is less likely that an already labeled "cult classic" game will make it big on that platform. True, it would be nice if Suda 51 came to the dark side (360), especially since he would be more appreciated there, but you have to admit that even the mere charging of a beam katana (which you just know was meant to be suggestive) will bring you some joy in the Wii system that those other games just don't offer to more mature audiences.
My guess is that it won't fly as high as we would like it, but I don't want to call it a flop. But god dammit, it just might be able to muster enough strength to pull a new audience to the Wii.
Can it be No More Heroes Day yet?
I mean, look at all the people here who are like, "I'm gonna buy this good damn game no matter what and I'm gonna force my friends to buy it, too!" I know I'm being naive, but just maybe the hardcore people like us can make it pull through. And them maybe the Wii might change a little. After all, actions speak loader than words and if a shit ton of people take interest in a M rated Wii game, it could pull the demographics a little bit more towards us. Unfortunately, I don't think No More Heroes will be able to be that game.
I'll most likely pick this up.
But when I bought it at TRU about two months after its release, the guy said this was the first copy he's sold other than the one he bought himself. ><
Truth to tell though, I don't think it's going to sell amazingly big here. There really has been no major exposure or major advertising for it. Granted, I don't watch alot of TV, but, has anyone seen a TV commercial or bus add for this game?
I'm buying it.
I had a friend who did that with Halo 3. Just bought the game and took it to a friends house. >_>
@Bluefusion
Yes. But Zak & Wiki ended up being a little more childish than expected. Sorry. I was unimpressed.
@Tubatic
Very true. Failure in Japan does not mean failure in the US. Didn't they even say that the demographics for the Wii are even more skewed in Japan? Isn't WiiPlay or Wiisports or something like that currently the top selling Wii game in Japan? It's an entirely different market.
