Devil May Cry 4 REQUIRES a 5GB installation.

Let me just put it out there, I'm a big fan of the 360 and not of the PS3. Now that we've gotten that out of the way I still like to discuss the pros and cons each system has with as little bias as possible. No matter which system you're rooting for, this is both good and bad news for PS3 fans. While I personally think it should be optional, they must have had their reasons. The Blu-ray drive reads slower than the Xbox 360's drive so perhaps the load times were so bad they felt it necessary to require it since all PS3's have a hard drive. I'd like to know if this is an option on the 360 and how the load times are, but I've yet to hear any confirmation on that. Let's take a look at why PS3 fans should be happy...and why they should be sad.

The Good:

-No loading times.
-Only needs to be done once.

The Bad:

-Takes 25 minutes.
-Isn't avoiding installation at least part of the reason people buy console games?
-Takes up 5GB.
-If you uninstall it and feel like playing it again you have to reinstall it. The same applies to taking it to a friends house, you'll have to wait for that 25 minute install again.

Obviously there is no reason to go buy one system or the other over this detail. However, those who own a 360 AND a PS3 will have an interesting decision to make once we hear exactly how the Xbox 360 version function.

You know I would be all for installing the games for the 360 if MS would actually let us use an external hard drive (Or something) to up the memory. For the prices they charge and the limited memory that are offered to us... it sucks not being able to give us the option.

I am a bit jealous that PS3 allows installation only because they allow their customers to switch out the HDD for a bigger one. I'd wait the 25 minutes for no load times, sounds like a good deal to me.

@Electrobes:

They haven't announced yet whether the 360 will be able to do this or not. I'm hoping we will be able to, but I'm doubt we'll be able to. As I said, in the end it won't cause anyone to buy one system or another, it just may affect what system someone gets its for if they own both.

Personally I couldn't live without checking friends, messages, chatting, etc. during games.

Wow this post was awesome as one can tell from the amount of comments.

Being that I own both consoles, I'll be picking up the PS3 version because 25 minutes and 5 gigs is worth no load times to me. This will be the 2nd time I bought a game for the PS3 over the 360.

The first being Stranglehold because it came with a movie :).

When it comes to cross-platform games, 360 usually wins because of Live and achievements. But if the version for the PS3 offers me an option to have no load times and stuff of that nature, I'm all over it.

to me, load times aren't worth trading Live & Achievements & better controller.

@Jarmer:

I agree, but we still don't know, the 360 MIGHT have this option, which would mean the best of both worlds...

hmmm 5Gb of forced install-space, so if you've got one of those new 40Gb PS3's, and this installing-stuff becomes the 'de-facto-sidestep' for loading times, you'll allways only be able to play about 8 Games at the same time (providing you don't listen to ANY music, and don't watch movies/play demo's...

I wish It was installable on the Xbox 360.

I usually play with headphones on, and I just realized the 360 sounds like a damn jet engine. Since I have a launch system, maybe it'll red ring (not maybe really but when), and I'll get a quieter one.

 about me

I've never really filled out the section that asks me to describe myself, but I'm making an exception here because Destructoid is so awesome, and the column on the right looks so damn empty without something here. I'm just another guy on the internet who plays lots of games while trying to make something of myself.
