it should have come in both disc and dlc format.
(# 1) on 01/07/2008 17:11
its optional.

this was posted in a much better format by an actual editor some time ago.

Hey, how about you get your info straight and stop being an asshole? Joystiq is reporting this as well (here) and they say that the 1UP Podcast confirms it. Destructoid reported that it was optional, but it turns out that it isn't.

Some of the PS3's don't have a big hard drive, not to mention if other games utilize this you could only fit a few games on your hard drive at once.
@cjpkiller:
I've heard both versions are the same (not that it has anything to do with this article's subject). Could you backup your claims of the PS3 getting exclusive content? It's not that I don't believe you, but with you providing other misinformation and being a dick I have no reason to trust you without proof.

(# 10) on 01/07/2008 17:24
Just watch an episode of something on the tube until it's installed. You're going to be playing the game for hours on end anyway, 25 minutes is a drop in the bucket. Also, you will have probably made up for those 25 minutes later when you're not sitting through long-ass loading screens. Just a thought, you can still be peeved if you'd like.
(# 11) on 01/07/2008 17:27
Because this isn't a demo. I delete the demo when I'm done and buy the real game without it taking up a large percentage of my hard drive.
@Steel Squirrel:
If you're talking to me you apparently didn't even read the article. I'm not peeved at all, I don't even own a PS3. I listed the pros and cons for people to discuss, not to get defensive about. You just reiterated what I said above.
(# 12) on 01/07/2008 17:29

some extras on the ps3 version
and OPTIONAL installation.
thats what you get for reading joystiq.

It wasn't directed at you, I read your whole story.
Just saying, if anyone's pissed about it, there's probably bigger things to worry about.

Taken from the PS3 manual of DMC4:
Install
When the game starts for the first time, Devil May Cry 4 game data will be installed on the PLAYSTATION®3 Hard Disk Drive (HDD). You must install the Devil May Cry 4 game data to play the game. Only one copy of the Devil May Cry 4 game data can be installed to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD). 4.8GB of free space is required to install the game data.
(# 16) on 01/07/2008 17:34
I agree, it can suck depending on how you look at it, but it is in no way a major deal breaker.
@xper:
How exactly is Burnout Paradise better on the PS3?
(# 17) on 01/07/2008 17:35
It is indeed Required..you also left this out as well..
The game will use the PSN for ranking modes. You'll also be able to collect achievements in the game (like in the Xbox 360 version) and you'll be able to see what achievements your friends have collected (a la Xbox Live).
That's a really nice thing to see. Sony's longtime vision of letting developers do everything finally pays off. What you can't see is me rolling my eyes. Maybe, just maybe this will be seen as an example to follow by other developers on the console.
Oh and since you don't have to worry about it since you'll get the 360 version if at all what's the big deal to you?
BTW 5 gigs is a tear in the bucket for the average PS3 owner. They either got smart and got the 60 gigger, got the 80 gigger, or really got smart and got the 20 and upgraded cheaply to either 60, 80, or beyond.

I didn't leave that out, I decided to focus my C-Blog on one subject regarding the game rather than include other things.
Would you actually read my whole blog instead of your knee jerk fanboy reaction? I'm NOT worried about it. I created this to discuss the pros and cons because I'm interested in every aspect of gaming. Even if I don't have a PS3 I like to stay INFORMED of everything rather than being an ignorant tool spouting misinformation like others in this thread (cjpkiller).
And despite what you say about people getting smart, many consumers have the version with the small hard drive. As I said this has a good side and a bad side too it. I'm not trolling the PS3 (I even said that no loading times was a nice touch) so you shouldn't troll my C-Blog. Grow up, read what I say, and compose a mature response. I hope that isn't too much to ask.
(# 21) on 01/07/2008 17:44
Also, most people who get the 20GB I assure you did not buy and install a bigger HDD (despite how easy and awesome it is).

As in this game will have no resale value or tradeability (is that even a word?) with a friend? I don't think I like that at all, even though I am used to it in the PC gaming world.
As a PS3 and Xbox 360 owner, it looks like I have a decision to make...
(# 25) on 01/07/2008 17:49
Because it is gaming news...and that's what we discuss here. I still think it should be optional, I don't see the harm in that. They probably won't be requiring it for the 360 so I don't see why they couldn't have just offered PS3 users the option.
(# 26) on 01/07/2008 17:50
I'm sure you can install the game on as many drives as you want, it will not be tied to once console (to the best of my knowledge). That would be BIG news and I just don't see that being the case.
(# 27) on 01/07/2008 17:51
I'm a 360 owner who hopes that it's an option to install. Even if the load times aren't bad I would consider installing it, I would just want the option to pop it in and play with longer loading times if I had uninstalled it but felt like giving the game another whirl.
(# 28) on 01/07/2008 17:51
Dude I read your post that's why I replied to it. The only difference is when people don't agree with your stupid ass they are "Trolling."
While I personally think it should be optional, they must have had their reasons. The Blu-ray drive reads slower than the Xbox 360's drive so perhaps the load times were so bad they felt it necessary to require it since all PS3's have a hard drive.
Oh really? Facts please..? Back that up bro..if you can..
Here's the reason that it is being downloaded to hard drive..Because it can. While every Sku is different for the PS3 there is one constant..they all have Hard drives.
The 360 can't say that hence no option for them to do so.
The only reason you wrote this post was to stri shit up for your 360 cause.
Now that we've gotten that out of the way I still like to discuss the pros and cons each system has with as little bias as possible.
The only pro's and cons I see Hot Fuzz kid is the PS3's. Where are the bullet points for the 360.?
Weak.

I'm not being a fanboy you moron, I don't have the 360 pros and cons BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW HOW IT FUCKING WORKS YET YOU IDIOT.
If you want to know basic console workings feel free to look it up, it's common knowledge that the Blu-ray drive reads slower. And the 360 also CAN install games (look at Final Fantasy XI) so there is no reason for them not to have the option.

I'm a moron because you don't know how to write or head your post correctly. You should of just said lets discuss the pros and cons of the PS3..no problem. That's not How you started...
BTW you hurt my feelings with the moron remark..lol.
(# 33) on 01/07/2008 18:05
I wasn't citing it as a negative. I was wondering if this is why they require an install. I didn't think the drive speed difference was noticeable either but that is the only reason I could think of on why they would not make it optional.
@Y0j1mb0:
I wrote very clearly, you lack reading comprehension. I mentioned the 360 because it is coming out for both systems and I'm curious what someone who owns both versions would be more interested in. Personally I would prefer an installation (am I a PS3 fanboy now?) but would also like the option to play it without installation, like if I took it to a friends house.
(# 34) on 01/07/2008 18:17
It didn't take no 25 minutes.
Besides like xper said it's a one time deal.
Soooo it's cool with me anyway. Calm PPL.

And just for everyone’s information: yes, it is true that the 2x Blu-ray drive in the PS3 reads significantly slower than the 12x DVD drive in the 360. 2x on a Blu-ray Disc translates to 72 Mbps (megabits per second), while 12x on a DVD equals 126.6 Mbps.

You do realize many big sites are posting and discussing this, right? It isn't silly, it's called gaming news. This isn't common in the industry for consoles so of course people are going to notice, especially for such a high profile title.
If you would read you would understand I like being educated in all aspects of gaming, including the PS3, so that I know what's going on. And I currently don't think the PS3 is worth the money but that doesn't mean I will never get one. Never say never.
And considering I own no shares of Microsoft or Nintendo, I'm not worried about Sony having some good games coming out. And even if I did own shares in both of them...I certainly wouldn't be worried because I'd be laughing my way to the bank looking at how the other two are selling compared to the PS3.
(# 38) on 01/07/2008 18:26
Thank you for lowering my blood pressure. Finally someone sane around here. I felt so cold and alone.
(# 39) on 01/07/2008 18:32
Once again if you would read what I said I was wondering why they would require it and that was the only thing I could come up with. Can YOU come up with any other reason they would require installation rather than make it optional? We need to get you a jump to conclusions mat.

Whether the big sites are talking about it or not, you can hear from the PS3 owners that it is not a big deal. I read enough of this blog to know that you are a true fanboy. That is not hard to understand. I absolutely love my PS3, and guess what.... after trying for 30 minutes to get into a game on COD4 for my 360, I turned it off and was able to play UT3 on my PS3 for the rest of the night. Now you tell me what is worth the money? lol
(# 42) on 01/07/2008 18:34
Just trying to break the tension.
(# 43) on 01/07/2008 18:36
I'm not a fanboy, but you're sure acting like one in your comment. Grow up. I never said it was a big deal if you would actually FUCKING READ.
(# 44) on 01/07/2008 18:42
I was just curious as to why it wouldn't be optional. I agree that no load times is the lesser of two evils here.

A console game REQUIRING an 25 minute (Shane confirmed the time on the 1up last podcast) installation isn't news? Because Shadow has an admitted slight bias to the 360 means he shouldn't post about it? It's not like he flamed the PS3 version as being inferior, he just listed the pros and cons. He even admits to wanting the the option for the 360 version.
Keyword there, "OPTION". If it was an option, this wouldn't be a big deal but he has the facts to prove it's required. Granted, 5Gb really isn't that big a deal to the average PS3 owner but still, wouldn't you like the option in case you ever DO run out of space and need to install it? What if other games start REQUIRING it and you see your hard drive space gradually being eaten away by chunks. It won't happen anytime soon, but this kind of opens the floodgates for the possibility.
(# 47) on 01/07/2008 19:58
That's a really good point...why not have the option for people that have the space? Unless it's a huge pain in the ass to program...
@GuitarAtomik:
Thanks
@Everyone:
I know I can be a dick, and I don't mean to be. But when people put words in my mouth that I never said (or state the my proven facts are wrong) it really pisses me off.

No in-game xmb is ludicrous at this point in time. I have to quit the game to read a message or see who's online. Granted DMC is a single player game, but still, Maybe I wanna go play some cod4 if a really good friend signs onto xbl... you know?
