You know, I really thought I could get away with it, I was sure I could read Destructoid without actually becoming a part of it; I thought I was safe- I was a fool so here we are. If it wasn't for that gorram Andy Dixon and his Artist's Wanted, I'd still be safe in anonymity!
I was reading the latest Artist's Wanted and got down to the bottom; for whatever reason I read the last two paragraphs, which had the instructions on how to get your picture in the next collection and the topic: Winter. And I thought of a game, and I knew that there was no escape.
What immediately popped into my mind was Chrono Trigger and the era of ice and snow (and self-righteous dirtbags in the sky) and a hill with footprints. I haven't played Chrono Trigger for years, but I couldn't get it out of my head, so I sketched this from memory.
I was bored at work, so I grabbed a pen and drew, and I thought I'd be content with that, but eh.
I did some research on the interwebs and grabbed the manual from my DS copy so I could get things right this time. I modeled the mountains after the actual sprites from the overworld, and the ice on the shore as well. I chose Robo, Frog, and Crono because they were my three most used characters, and Robo on the hill because he's my favorite. I used colored pencils (the cheap kind, not oil based) on toned tan sketch paper, so the white could come out. I am the most pleased with how Robo turned out and how the whole mood of the piece came together.
If I had to go back and change a few things, I'd take more time on Crono and Frog, do more detail on the trees, and model the clouds more closely after the background of Zeal.
Overall, though, I am very happy with how this turned out and I feel I did one of the masterpieces of gaming justice. Check out higher resolution photos in the gallery!
So what do you like about it? What's your favorite era from Chrono Trigger? And who was your favorite character? read
