Thanks to silly good metabolism I will never ever look like this For a while now I’ve been one of the people who’ve said that exclusive PC gaming is pretty much dead, and I still stand by those claims. However that’s not going to stop me from enjoying what I do have at my disposal for PC games. The other reason I stopped gaming on my PC was because my machine really couldn’t run any of the high end games anymore; for example the highest end game I could play on high settings with minimal slowdown was the original F.E.A.R. and anything newer then that would bring my machine to its knees. The secondary issue was that my PC really couldn’t be upgraded any further beyond what it had, motherboard drivers wouldn’t support anything above Pentium 4 processors, the maximum supported RAM was 4GB DDR2, and half of my motherboard drivers weren’t even Vista certified – which would be an issue since I plan on upgrading to Windows 7 upon its release. So after seeing one of my friends new rigs, I realized there were a few PC games that I honestly would like to try that I couldn’t. I decided to say fuck it and splurged a thousand on parts for my new machine. ---ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard (Nice motherboard that supports triple SLI) ---Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz (Yeah, I went with Intel over AMD. Piss off, I've had bad experiences with AMD) ---EVGA 512-P3-N884-TR GeForce 9800 GTX+ Superclocked (I've seen this card in action first hand, alot of bang for the buck) ---G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 (Triple channel RAM = Me happy) ---Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower (Needs green fans!) ---SAMSUNG Black 22X SATA DVD Burner (Just because my motherboard is pure SATA and has no IDE interface) I already had a power supply and hard drive available, so that was a bonus, and I’m currently using the Windows 7 Release Candidate as my operating system since Microsoft is letting anyone download it and I like free legal stuff. Which reminds me - anyone who has gripes about Vista should really try out 7, it’s really nice. Anyways, I have yet to reinstall some of my older games so the only game on my PC right now is Supreme Commander. Why Supreme Commander might you ask? Because it’s pretty much the spiritual sequel and graphical upgrade to Total Anihilation, which is the best RTS game ever made.
(Thanks Trev!) There are a few other games I’m planning on getting, some of which I could probably get on consoles but since I have this nice computer I might as well fucking use it. Mass Effect is currently downloading off of Steam as we speak, I plan on picking up Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 2, and hell I might as well get Crysis since I feel like benchmarking my graphics capabilities. The future holds a few MMOs I’m interested in, since The Matrix Online ends in a month (*sad face*); Star Trek Online has the Trekkie in me excited though I still want details on the game… like if the DToid community can make the USS Destructoid or the USS Also, Cocks. I’m torn between whether or not I will get Champions Online or DC Universe Online. Champions comes from the City of Heroes people which I heard was a pretty good MMO, and the extreme hero customization plus the ability to make your own arch nemesis sounds pretty sweet. But at the same time I could be awesome and fight alongside Batman in DC or maybe even join the Green Lantern Corps, how fucking sweet would that be? But goddamnit, I don’t have time for more than two MMOs in my gaming life considering there are still some sweet console games on the way too. If it wasn’t overpriced, I might get a copy of Left 4 Dead but $35 bucks is too much for a glorified CounterStrike mod… plus I might be corrupting the judge if I get this game and we don’t fuck with the judge.
I know there’s a few other game’s I’m forgetting so feel free to comment and suggest some more PC titles. It’s been a while since I’ve been in the PC gaming realm so obviously I’m a little behind.

Don't forget about games like the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, Sacred 2, The Witcher, among plenty of others.
also I might pick up Windows 7 first thing in October, if the rumblings of a "49.99 upgrade special' are true.
Speaking of which, I want to give away at least six crazy computers this year to our readers before the year is over. Watch that contest page :)
That shit is addicting.
I should specify which PC games I already own too.
-Half Life original collection :
-----Half Life
-----CounterStrike
-----Team Fortress
-----Blue Shift
-----Opposing Force
-Half Life 2
-F.E.A.R.
-Guild Wars (dont play it anymore though)
-Matrix Online (*sad face again*)
-Star Trek Armada 1 & 2
-Total Anihlation
-Supreme Commander
@MrSadistic
One of my friends has one of the STALKER games, I might just have to get into that series. Oh, and maybe I'll finally get into Team Fortress 2 now... the Xbox version left a sour taste in my mouth that I need to wash out.
@Senisan82
I really really need to play through Max Payne 2. Like, really. I played the first one and I don't know how the hell I skipped the second. Oh, I'd get Far Cry 2 but I have it on my 360 already... I'd feel weird getting it twice.
Definately check out STALKER, basically most immersive shooter ever. Max Fucking Payne, yeah!
@Phantom, "needlessly"? The more complex the UI, the more hotkeys I can have ot avoid using it!
I bought The Witcher and Crysis Warhead, the latter of which is absolutely breathtaking in terms of graphics on my PC. Unfortunately my wife is so addicted to WoW and now The Sims 3 that I have literally played both games for 3 hours combined.
I have Orange Box for 360, I pretty much bought it for Portal.
@Kohlstream
I'd get more stuff off Steam, but (since I'm currently living with my parents) our internet's not exactly the fastest. So Steam downloads are kind of slow.
Buy TF2 for PC when it goes on a steam sale, by the way. I also have The Orange Box for 360, but I think the console version is gimped; at least I know it has a fraction of the community. Can anyone confirm that it's worse?
What a shame, my condolences :(
Did you use a guide or your own knowledge for the parts? I don't have the money for a rebuild yet, but I can sorta piece together what I need off of places like Newegg, just that the PSU completely baffles me. How much voltage is necessary for what, etc.
I used my own knowledge for looking for the parts, I just bounced my specs to my friends to see what they thought. PSUs are kind of tricky, I just tend to find ones that are super powerful. My new tower's going to be running a 750W supply once I get it back (came DOA), but I wouldn't recommend anything below 550W.
Why?
I assume Nanbu means Seph will be spending less time on consoles, where many gamers feel the majority of "superior" games lie. We should probably leave it at that before Seph's happy blog turns into a PC v. Console war.
Have fun gaming.
Hah, even the same case? Nice! Though I plan on changing out the blue LED 120mm fans for some green ones. And yeah I could have gone a little further up the ladder with the video card, but I've seen this card rather effortlessly handle Crysis on a much lesser all-around system, so that's why I got it. Plus I plan on getting a 2nd one and using SLI at some point.
Also, you can't go wrong with any Valve games. Team Fortress is spectacular.
I second that emotion. Mine doesn't even run Splinter Cell properly.
...
The original Splinter Cell.
But Total Annihilation is the best RTS ever made, and so I will accept you, crazy opinions and all.
I just dont like being one of those people who nods their head and just goes along with groupthink when my mind says thinks differently :D
My last tower was store-bought (present) and the only graphics card I could stuff in there was PCI. Not -express. PCI. It did okay, but still wasn't terribly powerful. Better than integrated but so's anything.
I know, it's called flamebait.
Too bad, I was hoping for some good Fanboy Friday material.
