Greetings and salutations to all 30,000+ members of the Destructoid Army. Ensign Sendarian here, reporting for duty *mock salute*. Its difficult to put into words how excited I am to finally be able to find the time to join the site and even more to actually write this here introduction. For the sake of those with short attention spans, and my unwillingness to seem egotistical, I'll keep this piece short.
Formalities aside, I suppose I should explain a bit about myself and just what it is that brought me to join. My name is Andrew, I'm 22, enjoy long walks on the beach and running down grandmas in my car while listening to speed metal (not really). I first heard about Destructoid from my cousin, whom some of you may know, Impossible Plant. She would regale me with all manner of tales about her exploits here as well as the exploits of others. I'll be honest at first my interest was waning, I had seen and been a part of online communities before, and more often then not, it always seemed as though the "community" aspect was overshadowed by the more intolerant members of the interweb. Who for whatever reason feel its their personal mission to instigate petty squabbles, with a heavy compliment of baseless and childish remarks poised at whomever had a differing thought to their otherwise infallible opinion or belief. Needless to say these "communities" were little more then gamefan pissing contests in which it seemed everyone just soaked through their trousers. Returning to my cousin's insistent blathering.....errr enlightened dialogue....I still wasn't convinced. She continued to profess how Dtoid was far different then what I had come to know and insisted I check it out. I resisted, for many reasons, the least of which being that I knew it set a flame under her (I do love tormenting her so).
Finally certain situations arose which caused me to leave my home state of Pennsylvania and come out to stay with her and her fiancee, another Dtoider Conrad Zimmerman, in Arizona. Perhaps some of you have heard of their recent couch-surfing vagabond? That would be me. After arriving, and hearing them both talk up the site to me, I decided the least I could do was type it into the address bar and take a look. I started simply, still wary, reading the main page. Checking the news and even at that only looking at what was present before the jump into the full article. Being pleased with the range and diversity of the articles presented I delved further looking into the comments left, trolling the forums and even looking at a few C-blogs. What I saw truly impressed me and I found how foolish I was to automatically lock myself into the mindset that this would be the same as the others I've experienced. So that is why I'm here and I'd like to take this time to thank the both of them for introducing me.
Now you know how it is that I got here, how about a little bit of what makes me a gamer? I've been playing games since I was about 5, starting first with the NES and hitting just about every major console since (as well as a few others retroactively). My favorites genres are RPGs and action adventures. Gameplay and character development are what really drive things home for me, a game can look pretty but if it plays like crap and the characters are as bland as tofu, it makes gamestop giving me 20% (or less) of the original purchase price all the more bitter. Some of my favorite games (in no particular order) are: The Phoenix Wright series (notice I said Phoenix Wright and NOT Apollo Justice) Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil 3, Katamari Damacy, Zombies ate my Neighbors, Harvest Moon 64 and the Castlevania series (older installments, some of the newer ones have been just a little too out there for me). I've had my stint in PC gaming, oftentimes limited by my PC, and have had my soul sucked by classics such as EQ, Diablo and WoW. Thankfully I just recently kicked the WoW bug, but I wonder how long that will last. I've watched more then my share of anime, though lately a lot of it has lost its appeal due to its seemingly inevitable progression to become DBZ and never end! I enjoy old-school roleplaying, D&D, White Wolf and the like and absolutely love comedy in all its forms.
Whew.....okay I lied before and went a little longer then I would have liked. I do hope I haven't bored to many of you to tears, just in case though I think I should wrap this up. In short I'm a pretty easygoing, sarcastic guy who loves intelligent video game (among other topics) discussion/debate. As I said earlier, through my cousin and Conrad, I have heard so much and look forward to experiences personally and not just through word of mouth. That's about all I have for now, look forward to speaking with you all. ~Sendarian
P.S. As I was going through the spell check it highlighted gameplay, guess that's not in the dictionary, but one of the suggestions was gamecock....
