Who loves Twinkies?
I tend to keep the games really enjoy and plan on playing again, even if it's years later--especially RPGs.
I tend to trade in used games more often as well.. I don't like trading in new $60 games because i feel as I've been ripped if I'm already trading games in i just purchased.
To go in with your post, I usually trade in games that didn't do anything for me and it's usually immediately while they still retain some value. Usually I send my older games to family that's out of country and too poor to afford any (a long with my last generation console).
I've personally not felt up to trading in games. I traded in Gears because I was tired of it and I knew I'd get something in return, but other than that...it just goes to charity. I feel better about it.
I've been using Goozex lately and I get a lot more bang for my buck.
I never, ever trade in any game I own. Ever. I generally do a lot of research so I'm spending money on worthwhile games with at least some redeeming value. The one exception to that rule, Dragonball Z: The Legacy of Goku (GBA) that I got a long time ago, I keep to remind myself not to buy bad games. (Of course, it's stashed away at the bottom of some drawer, but you get the point.)
Also, Semantic Poetry, this post is really more suited for the forums. If you have a question with no real direction beyond stimulating discussion, please post it there. If you want to post it here, please give us your perspectives and a few paragraphs (and maybe a picture). How many games do you trade in? What do you think is the deciding factor in this? What would you like to see developers do? Make sure to expand your simple question into a full post next time.
I rarely (if ever trade my games in, usually cause I sometimes have an urge to buy the game again and because you rarely get anything back.
I traded in a bunch of games a few weeks ago towards Rock Band and most of the games were only worth 1-2 dollars. The only ones that were actually worth anything were Gears of War and Command and Conquer 3, and even then those 2 were only worth $15 and $11 respectively.
I ended up getting $110 for 17 games, and thats only because they had the extra %30 towards RB and an extra $10 for 2 360 games.
@Necros
I generally trade in games when I feel I'm done with the gameplay. This usually corresponds to maybe one or two games every couple of months or so. It usually boils down to length, more than anything else. I guess, more than anything else, I'd like to see developers make the gameplay experience a little longer.
Thanks for the heads up, I'm still a little uncertain about how things work here. :)

$60? That's not bad for Halo and 4 GBA games. Although the tax issue doesn't really crop up here in the UK
I traded Halo 3 toward Rock Band and got $49. Seeing as how I bought it for 55, it is was basically a rental for $6 for 2 months. Not bad.
