I wholeheartedly agree with both of these suggestions.
I really loved the old Community Blogs sidebar. It always felt really great to see one of your blogs featured up there, having been voted up by the community. I think it's also a good idea to have the Promoted Blogs and Forums up there as well. Perhaps they could make three separate sidebars for each of them? I know I hardly ever click on the Forums tab, so I never see what's going on in there.
And I also enjoyed Monthly Musings and the way blogs were chosen for promotion much more in the past as well. It's still pretty good now, but I just feel like it was better before.

I totally forgot about the sidebar! It's a great advertisement for the cblogs! I'm surprise you took a pic of it when it first appeared. :)
My second issue with Bloggers wanted is I think that guaranteeing that a blog gets promoted everyday is a bad move. Before when a blog was promoted it stood out more it was a combination of being a well written story, and being lucky to have been selected to be front paged/
Yeah, you're right about that. Promoted blogs shouldn't be about Faps (they do count, but it's more than that).
My third issue with bloggers wanted is that it creates a carrot and stick effect, before getting a blog promoted seemed like a privilege now it seems like a right. This approach is discouraging. People seem to be writing more to get front paged that just writing for the sake of sharing your thoughts with others.
Yup! You should write because you want to write, not because you want to see your blog promoted. When your blog does get promoted, it's a surprise and you get a pretty awesome feeling of accomplishment.
Great blog!

I also agree with these thoughts of yours. I liked the old c-blog sidebar so much better! It was something that I could work towards. It made me want to post really quality blogs. I was always thinking that it was my own way of pushing myself to the front page. And when I was there, I would get the same good feelings you did.
I find this blog to be very well written as well.
I do want to add to your thoughts on changing back to the monthly musing. I agree that moving back to that would be better than our situation now. However... Let me suggest that our 'bloggers wanted' situation could be alleviated by having an advanced warning. So how about keeping weekly musings, but giving people two weeks advance on topics.
It would basically work like this:
This week (people are posting now after two weeks): Favorite Nintendo Games
Next week (people have had one week to work on this): Favorite Sony Games
Announced this week (for two weeks ahead): Favorite X-Box Games
We could even whittle this down to two topics.
This is just a suggestion. There are problems I can see with it, but many good things as well. I'm sure you presented the 'easier' option. Which sometimes is the best. But having advanced warning would give a lot more people a chance to be working on a topic they like. Sometimes I had to skip a monthly musing because of that, but with this I could pick a topic out of three, or even write three blogs fast. What do you think?

Totally agree.
I have a love/hate thing with the faps, always did, but then they always brought a bit of democratic quality and reputation building to the proceedings; which I miss already. I loved that the better blogs hung around on the scroll bar, now, while the credo is everybody gets equal time, the poorer quality just drowns out the good stuff. Boom, you get a day to read these, at best.
As for weekly musings, I don't care much for it. Just a mad rush of similar blogs, while people who want to talk about something else get lost in the shuffle. I don't want everybody to write the same thing every week. Bloggers like myself draft, redraft and give time to articulate their thoughts, but I'm sure there are those who work fast, but are they being original in the process?
It was such a rushed idea to change the blogs in an effort get more people writing, rather than worrying about percieved favouritism (there wasn't), and then leave the process unfinished, that it had a negative effect on certain writers. Their output has just slowed to a stop and its a shame because they wrote quality work that people could join in on, discuss and therfore be part of the community, rather than being passive readers.

Love these suggestions! In regards to the spam... I honestly don't understand how it manages to stay in the c-blogs as long as it does. Isn't there someone checking the c-blogs regularly and just deleting the spam stuff? If there isn't, there definitely should be.
I too also like the old sidebar... no spam or bad blogs and I think it only took 5 votes for a blog to show.
great suggestions! Sometimes "old" is better than "new and improved"!

Ironically, I clicked on this from the new sidebar... but yes. 100% yes to everything here.
I was going to write an idea blog about how I think the site could improve, but since I believe it's still a weekly challenge thing, I'll never get around to it and it won't even seem topical anymore, even though there are some glaring faults the site could fix.

I’d like to write an improvements blog but I couldn’t find the time this week, further emphasising that a week just isn’t enough for some.
I actually remember the old sidebar back before I joined the site. So hard to keep up with the blogs as they are now. The majority are posted and then forgotten before I get a chance to read them. :/
Thanks for all the faps and comments everyone. Since I had to rush to finish this I wasn't sure how good the quality was going to be, so I'm happy that you all still enjoyed it.
First, that was a magical tangent towards the end there. :)
Second, I think you made a great case on all the points you brought up! Sometimes I kind of enjoy the "you snooze, you lose" pace of the weekly musings - often, if I haven't come up with an angle on a topic in a week, then three more weeks isn't going to help. But I completely agree with you that promoted blogs seem less special when there's one every day, and the rush of similar-themed blogs each week makes it a bit harder to find the real gems.

Agreed wholeheartedly, I liked being able to catch up that way. Now I can't say I really use it. I agree with the front page argument as well.
