Remember seeing this picture and wishing someone would make it a reality? Someone(s) are! A group of Sonic fans have begun work on their own game, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 HD!
The S2HD Team's site states that the plan to include:
● Remastered tiles, sprites and music
● New graphical effects when collecting rings, skidding, spin dashing, dust being kicked up when jumping and more
● Gameplay physics and collisions replicated from Sonic 2
● Both original and new sound effects
● 256 colors with 1 alpha
● Mp3/OGG/VGM music support
● Sonic & Tails as playable characters (Knuckles will later be added)
● All the original Sonic 2 Levels available, with an added Hidden Palace zone
● True 3d Special stages and a possibility of 3d backgrounds
● 360 degree rotation for slopes and loops (optionally enabled or disabled)
They also feature
several threads showcasing their sprites and I have to say they look incredible!
Now if someone would make
Super Metroid HD as well.

That title screen is not the one being used for this project.
I'll keep all my finger crossed for this HD remake. Hopefully Sega won't swoop in and kill it before it's done like Squeenix did to Chrono Trigger Resurrection. I still mourn CTR's loss every day. ;.;
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD is basically the same thing... so if you use the timeframe for that game as a reference, this game will be out in time for my 54th birthday. (I turn 24 at the end of May)
