Today's my last night of recaps until, I've got to go pick up a friend at the airport, so Yojimbo will cover tomorrow's shift. Hope you enjoy both his and my recap!
As you may or may not be aware, The GHost has been working on
a series of incredible Destructoid trading cards. A couple weeks ago, I was looking through some of them, and remembered just
how much I loved playing trading card games. I was always a fan of TCGs, especially the
Pokemon one, despite rarely if ever playing it. I liked the idea of it, buy a basic deck then
slowly argument it with cards from booster packs, but the actual process of paying for
bunches of packs, hoping to get lucky, and then having to find someone to play against you
wasn't a tool or a pedophile, was a bit much for little 12 year old me, so after a month or so
of collecting, I quit the game, sad and dejected, and forgot about it. Until several months
later when
Pokemon Trading Gard Game came out for the Gameboy Color.
It was a godsend for me, I only had to buy one one $20 game, and I had all of the cards
that I had so longed for, and not only was it full of trainers for me to duel, it featured a
robust multiplayer mode, that was far easier to convince a friend to purchase then 60+
assorted trading cards. I really loved that game, and spent a happy summer playing it
nonstop, until Gold and Silver game out, and I abandoned it completly.
Remembering all this, I decided to not download a not ROM of it, and give it another run
through, to see if it was good as I remember it. It was :)
The plot is standard Pokemon fare; go around to the eight different card clubs and ear medals
and then four champions, while occasionally facing your rival, and nothing to right home
about, but the card game is just so much fun! Not only playing it, but winning booster packs,
and special promo cards, and watching your deck evolve. Ahhhh, it so good! I started out by
picking the basic Charmander and Friends deck, which featured a mixture of fire, electric and
fighting cards with an aggressive strategy, which slowly changed to a deck with no fighing
pokemon and a strategy centering around stalling with Magmar and Wigglytuff while prepping
Acranines, Zapdos, and Riachus with energy cards, so that they can run in and wreack
havok, all those terms are probably Greek to most of you though ;) I also made a second
deck of psychic and fighting (I named it "Polarity" after Ikaruga) where I switched between
hard hitters like, Hitmoncan and Mewtwo, and quirky specialty cards, like Mew and Mr. Mime,
all the while manipulating damage counters with Slowbro and Gengar. I know this all sounds
really childish and silly, but I had a wonderful time replaying through this game, and I highly
recommend you not download if you are, or ever once were a fan of the Pokemon TCG.
Also, Occasionally you'll run across a creepy trainer in a mouse like suit, who asks children
who is cuter, him or Pikachu, and makes them dance for him if he loses. I guess you can't
avoid the pedophiles even in the video game version :P
The pedophile trainer has his own card
My personal faovrite card. I swap it in after someone evolves up their Pokemon, and their
helpless against my waves of Psyshocks A rather good strategy if I do say so myself :)
P.S. This video is an incredible remix of several Ace Attorney 3 songs on the Japanese
Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations soundtrack. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do, which is more then any other song, apart from Caramelldsen (Speedy Cake Remix) :)
I've got thw "Gyakuten Meets Orchesta" CD.
I found it on a very particular CD store where you can order any CD from anywhere in the world, it seems to be that someone ordered that CD and no one picked it up, so they were selling it. It was 80$ but god they were worth it If you hadn't heard any song from it you should give it a try SWPM.
@vongore
Gyakuten meets Orchestra is amazing :) I not torrented it aftercplaying Justice for All, but the fact that you have a real copy is awesome! Take pictures! I would love to see them :)
Thier releaseing another album in July with a bunch of new tracks like Furio Tigre: Warehouse Tiger, Damon Gant: Swimming anyone? and Guitarist's Serenade. I listens to a smuggled recording of the concert with the new songs, and they are incredible! I think Masque de Mask: Please Listen! Was on it as well, but I'm not sure
Btw, what are your favorite songs on this one? Mine are for sure GS3 Epilouge, Apollo Justice: Start of a new trial, and the three court suites. Thier all so good though :)
OMG they are releasing a new one? i hope they make an orchestrated version of "Guilty as charged" i listened that song every time i opened the Evidence menu, and Mask de'Masque song was awesome, i loved that case.
But my fevorite song in the GMO CD is the first Court Suite especially the last part (3'30 to the end). It remembers the Climax of my cases.
Also, i don't know if this happened to you, but after playing PW3: T&T I started to drink more coffee
Ahha! I reversed it :) I think what happend was that when I edited the title on my phone, it reformated it and screwed with the BBC code, which I retyped. The formating is still a little wonky on the top, though
I dont know what went wrong with the Arrested Development picture. I guess I'll just try and use it next week. At least we still have Imakuni? though (I love how he has a ? as part of his name :)
Thats pretty cool, that he got to be imortalized in the games. Do you know if he really wears that suit and asks kids if he's cuter then pikachu? If so, he's awesome :)
Yes he does, in fact, he uused to appear in a lot of live Pokemon events with three different costumes since 1997 until 2001, now he only has a blog on GameFreak Inc.
And he IS cuter that pikachu, how can you dare to oppose him!?
LOL, I'm definetly going to check his blog out tomorow (or today actually seeing as its 2:00. But for now I have to get some sleep. Dividing by a zero is hard work ;)
i have a full collection of all the original cards, minus charizard lol.
I just moved last weekend and found them all. i should see how much that whole set goes for, and perhaps buy a charizard and then sell the complete set.
@blake
Thanks! Sorry I forgot it again :P I added it to my picks though :)
@Blacksheep
LOl, I didn't use Charizard nearly as much as I thought. I had two, and I guess if my deck was more fire centric, he would have found a place, but I liked my holographic Riachu's more :)

Also Tubatic is a winner indeed :)

Well, at least we still have the "Imakuni" Trainer Card
I dont know what went wrong with the Arrested Development picture. I guess I'll just try and use it next week. At least we still have Imakuni? though (I love how he has a ? as part of his name :)
I knew the story of that card, i guess it was a special announcer of a Pokemon show that showed on Sundays (Japan Only).. Let me do some Wikisearch..
Yup, i'm right, and it seems to be that he eis also an enemy on some pokemon games..Wow, just Wow

Also, I love you for that song. I really do.
@blake
Thanks! Sorry I forgot it again :P I added it to my picks though :)
@Blacksheep
LOl, I didn't use Charizard nearly as much as I thought. I had two, and I guess if my deck was more fire centric, he would have found a place, but I liked my holographic Riachu's more :)
