About Me
Name: Mike "Savant" Ferry

I am a former Associate Editor of Destructoid who became INTERNET FAMOUS (er, not really...) for my weekly column entitled "Miniboss Monday." You might've heard of it. It was kind of a big deal. Anyway, I've since moved on to becoming a lurker and playing my fair share of games in the meantime. Oh, and I wear a kilt, love retro video games, and drink a lot of beer. That pretty much sums me up.

Guitar Hero III Demo Impression(s)
Savant | 7:35 AM on 10.24.2007 8 comments

I downloaded the Guitar Hero III demo last night with nothing but joy tingling in my fingertips. Once I got the "Download Complete" heads-up, I dashed to the dashboard and jumped into the demo area faster than George Dubya lost his credibility.

Needless to say, I can sum up my impressions in five words.

I seriously need a guitar.

Yep, that's pretty much it. Playing the songs on Expert with a controller is pretty rough -- I felt like I was breaking my shoulder buttons on Lay Down and The Metal; for reals.

But in all seriousness, I am truly excited for Guitar Hero III and I believe it will (easily) be the best in the series. One thing to note that most of you probably couldn't care less about, but I think is a big deal -- the hammer-on/pull-off notes are very easy to see now. No more guessing for me as to when a HO/PO will work or not.

Anyways, that pretty much sums it up for me. Go download it for yourself if you haven't already and enjoy five good songs to whet your appetite.

Awesome, thanks for the write up. I have the PS2 SG so I never thought to d/l the demo on my 360 to play with the controller. Needless to say, you have encouraged me to do so.

Can it be next week yet?

I'm renting this on PS2 because I'm not fully convinced of its superiority just yet. I fully expect to see Tony Hawk grind down the fret board randomly.

It's too easy to hit notes. They made a larger note hit window. Still fun though, suppose it makes it easier for kids and such.

If it's easier this time around, I'll probably be able to finish hard. >__>

"expert on the controller"

I can't even imagine how that would work.

It's *way* easier than previous GHs. I've never owned one, I only play them with friends when they bring it over. I normally play medium, with some of the easier songs on hard. In the demo, I was able to play all 5 songs on hard, with around a 92% hit rate. On medium I was getting close to 100%.

It's exactly like described, the window for a note hit is way bigger.
