This article is not a PS4 and Xbox One cheat guide. It is, however, a guide to PS4 and Xbox One cheats. That is, it is intended to act as a quick explanation of the types of cheats that exist for the PS4 and Xbox One, while highlighting those explanations with examples from some of the high-profile games that have appeared on the two systems.
Now, when you hear about video game cheats, the first thing you probably think of is something you find because you need help with the game, something to ease your path and guide you through. Letís start there, then. You can find tons of PS4 and Xbox One hints and guides. Some might be the sorts of things you look at from the start, such as gameplay tips for Killer Instinct. Others you might turn you when you hit a specific goal, such as trying to save all of the humans in Resogun. Still others go into more depth and complexity, and youíll either consult them from time to time or keep them nearby as a handy reference. A good example is the guide to finding all of the collectibles in Ryse: Son of Rome. Occasionally, hints overlap with glitches that you can use to your advantage. As you can see, these sorts of cheats cover quite a broad spectrum, so whether you need help with a particular trophy/achievement, a general aspect of gameplay, or a very specific part of the game, thereís a good chance you can find a guide or hint.
The next cheats youíll probably think of are cheat codes. When you enter the correct combination into the game, be it in a special menu or not, something will happen. Youíll be able to play as a new character, something in the world will change, new items will become available, etc. There are many possibilities. In LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, there are codes to unlock vehicles, characters, and more. You can use a code in NBA 2K14 to unlock a different basketball. Whether the effect is advantageous or merely aesthetic, cheat codes are widely popular and found in many different games.
On the other hand, a lot of games have unlockables that arenít locked behind a code, but behind the playerís actions in the gameóyou must do something while playing to unlock the new mode, character, world, etc. You can unlock new costumes in Assassinís Creed IV: Black Flag, for example, based on several different factors. As another example, if you complete a playthrough of Knack and meet certain criteria, you can play as different versions of Knack, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. You might find it handy to look up cheats to learn just what it is you need to do to get those unlockables, especially if there is one in particular you want to be sure you donít miss.
In a similar way, you might want to look up the list of a PS4/Xbox One gameís trophies/achievements. Like unlockables, you earn trophies/achievements based on your actions in the game. If youíre interested in getting as many as possible, it can be useful to know in advance what you will need to do. You can find these lists for pretty much every game, and some games, such as Just Dance 2014 and Fighter Within, do not have other types of cheats.
Finally, letís consider Easter eggs for a moment. They are references or secrets for the player to find and range in type and scope, and can be found in games like Contrast, Assassinís Creed IV, and many others.
These are all types of PS4 and Xbox One hints. There are many more besides these, and you can be sure there will be many more to come.
