look! were on the web!
Last Week our vary own Jim Sterling posted a Review of Kirby's Return to Dreamland. Up until that point, a large majority who hadn't played a demo of any sort were unsure about the game. People were either on the fence or ready to go yell at the people at Gamestop to take there money. Jim gave the game a 10. Needless to say that the community was split. People were either saying that it was too high a score or it was perfect for the Title. But as reviews come and go people refuse to let this review go. That or the comments were littered with GIFs of people eating popcorn. He gave Battlefield a 7.5 out of 10, Which he backed up with his solid arguments and opinions.
Battlefield 3 is a beautiful game regardless of what platform one plays it on, and is well worth your money if your a fan of the FPS genre. But it's no Kirby's Return to Dreamland. You see in the cluttered market of first person shooters it is a surprise when a game like Kirby's Return to Dreamland emerges. Unlike Battlefield or the soon to release Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, this game is a breath of fresh air. In Kirby's Return to Dreamland your Kirby, in a colorful well polished world, where you are helping a alien recover parts for his damaged spaceship, just to be a nice guy. You see Kirby's Return to Dreamland is a colorful Adventure for the Wii that doesn't require multiplayer to sell the game. While it is a feature in Kirby's Return to Dreamland it isn't what drives the gameplay. This is where Battlefield and Call of Duty fall short, these games focus is multiplayer, imagine if those titles multiplayer feature was taken away. Then what? Truth be told these games campaigns are short and generally generic.
That and Jim Sterling's opinion is his own. (ga ga ga gasp!) It was backed up with strong opinions and arguments. Trying to compare a Kirby game to a first person shooter is like comparing a paper clip, to a magical talking painting of Richard Nixon that grants wishes, why would you even try? Trying to call Jim a Kirby Fanatic or comparing him to Kirby (despite the obvious fact that they are both pink, round and have big mouths) is both irrelevant and unnecessary. Lets face it, Kirby's Return to Dreamland is the best game to come out this quarter so far, and Jim voiced his opinion, besides even if you think his score is to low or to high, its his score! Not yours. If you would like to make your own score for a video games that you played up on your game box, go right ahead, I'm sure they'll listen to you over the Reviews Editor of Destructoid.com
*Note this article is in no way trolling Jim Sterling, just an attempt to explain to a bunch of rabbid people why the big man who wheres the sun glasses indoors is entitled to his opinion.
Well, it was only a matter of time until this happened, we have been working on Action/Adventure World for almost a year now and it is apparent that it is going to be a full blown 15 hour adventure priced a $30 bucks. The game is planned to have more levels than Super Mario World, and each level is a long enrichfull experience. The games levels are each World based, with each level consisting in a world with about 5 levels a world and one major boss level a world.
(A screenshot of Construct Zone)
Each level has multiple routes that one can take weather it be higher or lower up that differ greatly. Example in a Forrest level, the bottom most route is beneath the tree tops, the second highest route is higher up in the trees, the third even higher route is above the trees and the fourth highest route is in the plane bombing that said forest. So depending on what parts of routes you take greatly effect your experiences through out the game. There is going to be three different Adventures one can take, one is the Single Player Adventure, The Multi Player CO-OP Adventure, The Third is a Secret Adventure Unlocked if the player beats both the single and multiplayer adventures.
Other than the co op offering of Action/Adventure World, there is also going to be a multiplayer mode as called A Double Sided Affair. In this mode you will selected to play as either one of the 4 hero's or one of the 28 or so enemy's in which you will get to chose out of three enemy's per class ranging on what level it is. So its preety much playing through a level where all the enemy's are player controlled, there's going to be a PC beta by the end of the year to beta test this feature.
The game also has alot of other things that will extend the game. The game may include a level editor but it depends on how bad the fans want it
The combat system is what a few people keep asking me allot about, The game plays like a Platformer Beat' Um Up hybrid. There's a jump button, a run button and then two attack buttons, a third attack can be executed by holding down both attack buttons at once.
The game is going to take a long time to make since it isn't being developed full time, do to job, life ect.
About Construct Zone. Construct Zone is pretty much Sonic 2's Chemical Plant Zone had a crazy tree way with Darkwing Duck's Quacker Jack Stage and pretty much every City Themed 8 Bit Mega Man Stage. All run by a maniacal Business Duck.
Tell me what you like, tell me what you don't like, tell me what you would like to see in the game, I'm all ears.
So I walked out of a newly modeled gamestop yesterday and saw a dumpster overflowing with colorful boxes and posters. The dumpster was full of impounded merchandise! I save all that had not been destroyed by the rain, I got all sorts of games, boxs, and other promotional items. I even got 2 copys of each version of world of Warcraft in a display box with backing and a poster. I also got a few game guides.
Here is the video please watch the whole thing or skip around to get to all of it because there really is alot stuff to show you guys, please also not that the mic on my camera is really bad and the quality is not the best.
(Don't know how to emmbed, if someone told me that would be awesome!)
So what do you guys think? Is gamestop wasteful or what, they didn't even bother trying to give this stuff away to like children's hospitals or charity's or anywhere that could of used it, the whole thing makes me sick.
Hey all, HKKstudios here with a much needed update on Action/Adventure World. I have all great news to deliver except for one small thing, but I'll get to that later. First things first. The game has left prototype and is now in development. The game is being coded in a program that allows us to port it to pretty much anything, with that said the planned consoles are Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita, Nintendo 3DS, and quite possibly on Nintendo's Wii U.
Co-Op: Big plans are in store for Action/Adventure Worlds Co-Op mode. Among these big plans were for the Wii U, When we herd that the controllers had screens we were so excited for the potential that the Wii U version could have over the others. But when it was announced that One Tablet controller at a time we were all crushed. As far as multi player co-op gos for the console ports will all be integrated with each other, meaning that some one on a 360, PS3 and a PC could all be playing together. So that there will be no excuse not to play the multi player with 4 people. Were not 100% sure how were going to make this work conveniently but it does work, Here are some screen shots nabbed using some screen capture software, The 360, PS3 and 2 PC versions of the game were used to make these screens, chances are this may or may not be in the final product but still a cool idea.
Nintendo 3DS Version
HKKstudios recently accidentally stumbled upon Nintendo's Dev Kit Site, which is Warioworld.com (those sneaky bastards) and applied for a 3DS Dev kit, we applied for a Dev Kit for Wii and 3DS, We were granted the Wii Dev Kit but are still waiting on the 3DS one, either way Action/Adventure World is now coming to 3DS! in 3D, the game will include a filter entitled that can be activated at Docs shop which is called Failed invention with puts a red and black filter on the game. Another filter is called Monochromatic makes it like a game boy game.
These are both great fun if you hate your eyes
The Adventure of 1,000 Trials
The Adventure of 1,000 Trials is the other game we are working on, its a unfair challenge style game with NES visuals but does cheat with some I'll post a trailer later Today, heres a vary vague screen shot
So thats it for now tell me what you guys think, until next time i'm outta here.
Next Friday I will be releasing a game base on the events of PSN's down time, In the game you start out as a member of Anonymous who finds out how to get into the grid.
Once in you have the option to hack PSN or Xbox Live. I'm not going to spoil too much but hilarity ensures. If you even think about hacking into XBL you need to get around the firewall, past Nortin and spybot and more. The PSN one is vary similar to the XBL one and both are just meant to be a quick laugh, nothing more nothing less. They are both playable games and are a combination of side-scrolling beat um up meets platformer. The game is basically a way for me and my team to test a new engine to be used on a different game coming in the future. Until then!
So I won one of the Gears 3 Beta codes, and was inspired to make this. You see, my comment was adventure times Jake, making the whole gears franchise more enjoyable for myself. To show my appreciation, I present to you Adventure Time with Fin and Marcus
Thanks do much DTOID, you guys kick ass. This should be a game. Now if only I had the programing skillz to pull it off properly.
