I'll try to post the pictures ASAP. But off the back! Graphically, TEKKEN 6 is real fucking CLEAN! Like, I always use to complain about the character design and the models used for Tekken. But this new engine is quite spiffy.
I only got to play once because I wanted to see the new characters. So when I got to the arcade. I just watched people play on the 2 the Noir Cabinets, (Which are kinda uncomfortable if you are 6'1 or over.) (Simply murder on the knees.)
The Japanese response to T6 it seemed pretty damn good. But not without careful study. With damn near every Japanese player in the Namco Game Center carrying a copy of the Arcadia Magazine with the T6 move list in hand. The shit was serious! It was a new game but the level of noobs at the Test was rather low. So this is how it went down in Shibuya. 2 Noir Cabinets side by side. The best 2 outta 3. And it seemed that everything was on default. If you loss, your wait on SNAKE's WAY was like 10-15 minutes to the from the front of the game center and at one point up the steps. Some matches were quick and other were long and entertaining.
Nuances of T6: That rage meter is serious. I lost to M.Chang. Like I knew she was strong ,but damn her forward lunge attack had that extra, "You better get the fuck off me strength!" So, I will definitely be studying up on the rage meter thing. It puts your whole approach in a new light now. STAGES: Look fantastic! The High Roller Stage is so awesome with the money billowing out the sky and the 2 rich doods in the background are the definition of pimp. It's a bit deceptive upon the first glance though. There is no wall on that stage. Now what I was worry about with T6's stages was the fact that I didn't want the stage to kill me in T6. You know like those stages in DOA, SSBM, and a couple of other fighters. The stages, as of right now, don't kill you but they give a tactical advantage. The stage where the floor breaks and you fall down. I saw some dirty-ness that will very well evolve. For Example: Asuka's slam where she grabs your face and slams you to the ground. When the floor breaks. Both opponents fall but Asuka can start; What look like to be a small juggle combo afterwards. (I hope there is a way to tech that fall.)
New Characters: Design wise, Zafina aka. "Miss Get Low with It." is interesting. She has the creepy Voldo approach. Bob: Mr FAT ROCKET! Is fast as fuck! With a Dragon Punch that seem to connect after his Kuma like big throw. Bob is very flashy and his moves seem a bit High Risk but he looks fun to play with. Leo: the VF5 rip off guy or should I say ripp off fal. LEO is a girl. Honestly, I think Leo is whack, but I think she is going be the favorite of the Chang - Jun players. Then the Japan pick of the test!: Miguel aka. "Mr. d/f+2,1 and yo' ankles is MINES!" A good mix of Speed, Power, and Size! I didn't know he was gonna be that big! The Japanese Players were all over Miguel! And I wish I would have had the chance to play him myself. His juggles seem to track very well and they take you a good distance across the screen. The Japanese players usually played M in a rushdown sense using his d/f+2,1 in mix- ups. But the strange thing is that Miguel has this "laugh." Where he walks toward you.... I thought it was a taunt but it acts as a stance.... either that or the opponent was just stupid. So to roll up the new characters of T6 Location Test chosen by sheer popularity:
1st: Miguel
2nd: Bob
3rd: Zafina, Leo
All and all, without getting into the finer points of the game play and not diving too deep on the first try. T6 is real Clean! The real abuse will start on 11/26. but for now T6 is full of WIN! Damn. I need a PS3!
P.S. (d/f+2,1 = Press: Down and Forward and Right Punch. Then press Left Punch. )
Learn how to speak Tekken!!!
Interesting. I have a love hate relationship with Tekken but I'm still interested in this. Would you say it builds off of T5 with the feel of it?
@GUITARATOMIK: Damn dood, you caught me right when I was about to go to sleep. But I'm gonna try to give you a coherent answer. "Does it build from Tekken 5?" No. Tekken DR yes. Tekken 5 was broken IMO.
I don't know about you but my whole Tekken Experience started with Tekken 4. Even then graphically, Tekken 4 didn't sit well with me, but the addition of Steve, Marduk, and Jin changed things a bit. As for the game play, I played T6 2 times (matches) in total. It was fun and I learned somewhat of a great deal about the "Japanese Tekken community" that day.
T6 plays a lot like TDR in the sense that it is a fun game to play. And the stages breaks aren't too outrageous like the ones in DOA. In DOA you fall out of buildings for several floors or get hit by Jaguars and shit out of the blue! (I know you can Tech these hazards. But gimme a fucking break.)
T6 Customization: Now this isn't a totally new concept but it will be interesting to see how it pans out. Visualize this if you will. T6 kinda makes you use the Fnet cards now. F-net / Tekken Card store a single character on each card. This card also keeps your records and other info. It also keep track of which arcades you play in. It's like ESPN Sports Center for Tekken players. I never used my F-net card because I was just to lazy to customize one character and when Tekken DR came out for PSP. I was like oh well, bump that! But now Tekken 6 has item combos. You know that shotgun on Brain Fury's back. Yeah well he can use it in the fight now. but to get that item you gotta play the game get the points the customize your character. It's just another edge to add to your arsenal but I'm not sure if the items have any negative effects like (-.5 frame rate data speed).
The Rage Bar: I wanna say that when you reach like 15% of your life that bar kicks in and your moves are followed by red trails and the properties of certain moves change for that character. This "RAGE" is definitely going to change Tekken's style of gameplay. Have you ever played any King of the Fighters Game?! If you have, then you know the destructive power of a desperation combo. So now it's really important that when have a chance to kill an opponent. Don't loli gag and kill them quick. That's how I lost to the Chang player.
So to wrap it up thing up before I past out = T6 is the shit now! But I'm sure that it will need to be revised at least once in 2008.
Im kind of in the same boat as GuitarAtomik
@ king3vbo and GuitarAtomik: What is it that you guys love/ hate about the Tekken series?
I'm mean there are tons of reasons not to like Tekken:
Eddie Gordo (Skilled, not button mashers)
The Mishima's
Breaking King Grabs.
Just Frame Data.
The old, I use to play Street Fighter so I hate Tekken.
Long juggling combos.
The list goes on and on......
I'm not a fan of stringing the million combos together mostly. That and button mashers can defeat people at a mediocre level (though I have the same complaint about Soul Calibur). I really like the characters and back story stuff though and the way it plays otherwise.
I don't know, somehow after T3, it just lost it's magic to me. I think T5 is a lot better than T4 and I actually prefer Tekken over Virtua Fighter but I just don't enjoy it as much as I used to.
The new stuff sounds interesting though and I'll be sure to give it a try (whenever I get a PS3)
The storyline is a shining point of Tekken series. Now I'm aware that the story isn't great. But there is a change in power and a winner is declared. But I would like to see another character outside of the Mishima's to win the King of the Iron Fist Tournaments though. (But Roger Jr. needs to die! and bring back Orge.)
Combo Strings: On the casual level of play, it's not that important. When in tournament or arcade play. It's something you need to know. I kinda wish that T6 has "fall control" like Soul Calibur. This option makes air combo strings less effective.
Button Mashing: This is where I gotta sit on the fence and shout at people who claim, "Button Mashing!" But can't low or neutral block.
A. Learn how to block. (Seriously)
B. Learn how to give yourself some space from your opponent.
C. Get off the 2-D plane. If they are button mashing sidestep and walk. (If you are there, they cannot hit you.)
Ultimately everyone has their own personal passion when it comes to, "Why he or she plays any game." I didn't play Tekken until Steve Fox was introduced. I admit I was turned off by the ugly character models and the seemingly endless combos strings. But this was very hypocritical of me. Because, I play games like Marvel vs. Capcom and Rival Schools were long air combos are the Bread and Butter. So, it took a while and I decided to play Tekken because of Soul Calibur. Soul Calibur is like the "Gateway Drug" of 3-D fighters but that's another story.
T6 = Me buying a PS3.
