Wow, beat 'em up sections? And you thought Sega had finally learnt its lesson and gone for a pure sonic game, all about the speed, maybe even with super sonic in it and not even as a single disappointing level.

Is anyone else finding it hard to get fired up about stuff like this anymore? Especially after the Nintendo press conference, I just feel so apathetic. It's happened so many times now, they try and try but they just don't get it, and then everyone lets out a collective sigh.

The classic sonic parts look fucking fantastic, but the beat-em-up parts look dumb.
I feel like they just showed the entire game in that trailer.
You run around as sonic, you get turned into a werewolf, you walk around as werewolf, you turn into supersonic, a cutscene shows you beating robotnic, the end.

Anyway to the people who though this shit would be different and once again trusted sonic team to not create crap i say told you so.
I felt the same way when I saw this trailer. The running and speed looks amazing, but as soon as you turn into Were-Sonic it seems the game will just go downhill.
Running and Speed parts: Look fucking awesome. Seryously, it look's really good.
The werewolf thing? Not so much. Ok, it was horrible.
I can't believe i actually thought Sonic Team was going to make a good Sonic game. Oh, the irony.
Good Lord, what in the hell is wrong with Sonic Team? I mean, the straight up speed portions of the game? AWESOME. And the Were-Sonic sections could be cool...if they didn't make you move at what looks like 2 MPH. Seriously, with as many times as people have slammed their heads against a brick wall when encountering slow portions of Sonic games (I like to call it the Big the Cat Vacuum of Inexplicable Gameplay), you think someone at Sega would've done SOME kind of consumer survey. Until that happens, we'll be laughing at Sega's futile attempts at resurrecting their iconic blue bastard while the rest of us play the good Sonic games on the Sonic Mega Collection.
What they should have done with Were-Sonic is give you speed and power; sort of a temporary invincibility as you went through destructable levels at top speed tearing stuff apart.
WHY? WHY!?
what is with sonic team. IF I PICK UP A SONIC GAME ALL I WANT IS TO RUN FAST AND JUMP ON STUFF. In agreement with enosachran i cant understand how noone in the dev team, none of the playtesters i assume exist, and none of Sega's marketing had the sense to say 'Half this game looks pretty cool, but lose the bullshit'. I dont want were-sonic(honestly wtf sort of idea is that) just give me supersonic for more than one shitty level and i might have given this game a second look.

A visual representation of my excitement for this game.
That would have been a lot better, but what's wrong with just bringing back seven bonus stages with emeralds and let you transform into super sonic with 50 rings? They could even change it a bit and start you off with the emeralds and you turn into super sonic in certain sections.

You're right though, it's just laughable, its like dealing with a child sometimes. You keep telling them and telling them and they just can't wrap their heads around the concept of something GOOD.
Always surprises me peoples obsession with Sonics speed, yes he's fast but that isn't what he's all about or at least it wasn't in the genesis/megadrive days.
I'm thinking the werewolf gameplay may be more satisfying than the speed track parts, and by that I mean better, not necessarily good. I have little faith in this game, hope to be pleasantly surprised.
I'm with Jack, I like the classic gameplay, but i'm not sure yet if I like WereSonic.

Little side note, apparently the singer in the trailer is the lead singer in Bowling for Soup. O.o;
Going to have to raise the obligatory Sonic-moan-discussion point that Sonic wasn't just about 'speed speed speed', it was a fairly fast paced platformer with speed sections. Go play through Sonic 3 and Knuckles and you'll see there was a fair bit more to the series than 'GO FAST, DIE IN PIT'
I've already blogged about this, so im keeping this comment small. Were-sonic looks(as in is potentially) more Prince of Persia/Assassins Creed than Dynasty Warriors.

@MultiJoe:

I want to counterargument. I'm going to argue that Sonic was always meant to be "Go Really Fast", but the hardware at the time could only make him go so fast. Remember how awesome it was in Green Hill Zone(in the first Sonic) when you got him going so fast he ran off the screen!? I think that they may have had to implement nifty "stops" with the level design to prevent an unintended result like that.

Counterargument aside though, WTH wasn't Sonic able to kill enemies in STH06 just by jumping on them!!?? I remember that being a basic part of his moveset. Mario isn't the only guy that can jump high!
The speed parts looks fucking amazing

The beatemup, not so much
'GO FAST, DIE IN PIT'
That seems what this game is all about. It looks like playing Burnout with 2/3 of of the screen covered.AKA NOT FUN.
It's like a bad Sonic fanfic come to life...
