Harmonix has brought out the best plastic controller music game, of all time. Guitar Hero can't even compare with it's 500 versions. However, one thing it has been lagging on is hard rock songs.
So, Destructoid, I offer up my list of hopeful Rock Band songs for the future.
Alestorm - Because we want Power Metal...made by Pirates.
Alice in Chains - Especially with harmonizing vocals...that would be off the chain...no pun intended
Alter Bridge - Probably one of the greatest hard rock bands to come out. Awesome guitar parts too. Seriously, why is this not anywhere?!
Arch Enemy - Just for guitars...pretty much
Black Stone Cherry - Great southern hard rock band. Would be GREAT for RB.
Breaking Benjamin - The 3 songs they came out with played great. From Phobia on, the new drummer has only used one kick pedal (and I must say, it's damn hard to play). Perfect for RB. Also, "Blow Me Away" from Halo 2...this should've been in there automatically.
Capcom - Get some of those classic Mega Man tracks and spice them up! Examples: Mega Man 2 Wily's first level, intro to Mega Man 3, "We're the Robots" from MM9 (bonus points for using "We're the Pitchermen"), etc.
Chevelle - Easy stuff, but they would be good for parties and such.
Dethklok - Just because
The Eagles - Get to it
Gorillaz - Seriously guys...come on...
Goldeneye 007 soundtrack - Especially the Cradle
Kamelot - Good "symphonic" type of metal. Wouldn't say they are bound to it, but that's all I can come up with.
Lamb of God - I like 'em. Very hard guitar parts at times too.
Led Zeppelin - Just use their songs already...
Limozeen - It would be funny
Los Lonely Boys - Get some cultural education in this bad boy
Meshuggah - Ok, maybe not them. Their song "Bleed" would kill people from the power of its heaviness and sheer brutality. Honestly, I'm surprised people's heads haven't imploded from it.
Metallica - Not going to happen probably, but you can't go wrong with a bit of them.
Muse - I need more of these guys.
Nickelback - Guilty pleasure. Also because more girls would probably play if they were on.
Nightwish - One of the most "epic" bands out there. I say epic as in, epic soundtrack, not the term commonly used by frat douches.
Nobuo Uematsu - It would be cool to have some FF tracks to play. "Otherworld" from FFX being among them.
Off The Zodiac - my band...please?
A Perfect Circle - don't know what to write, but "Judith" would be cool to jam.
Pink Floyd - You better include the trippy RB scenes
Primus - Just want to play bass on "Winona's Big Brown Beaver"
Rush - MOAR
Seether - solid band, could use some.
Shinedown - good hard rock band
Stone Temple Pilots - older stuff
Tenacious D albums...oh yeah.
Trans Siberian Orchestra - Doesn't have to be their Christmas stuff
Type-O Negative - Mostly to see people try to sing that low
The Who - I know people want this
Van Halen - I know GH did it, but still
old classics like Chuck Berry, Elvis, Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, and others.
Classical music, but the "neo-classical" variety
That's my list. What about you, Destructoid?

YES to Tenacious D.
YES to more Rush.
YES to Primus (you wanna talk about great bass lines, how about "DMV" or "My Name is Mud").
I can't say I agree with every pick (I'm not a big modern metal fan) but a good list nonetheless!
Alestorm: Never heard them.
Alice in Chains: We have some AiC and while it's not nearly as much the Foo or Pearl Jam I think we've enough grunge. Unless we can get more L7 and some Seven Year Bitch. L7 is only the best grunge band ever.
Alter Bridge: Never heard them. Sounds like a Christian rock band. :P
Arch Enemy: Ew.
Black Stone Cherry: Never heard 'em.
Breaking Benjamin I loathe these men. Loathe!
Capcom: While I'm not terribly familiar with Capcoms work Koei would kick ass. Gitaroo Man anyone?
Chevelle: Seriously, now?
Dethklok: *ahem*....FUUUCK YESSS!!!! I hear a murdertrain a-comin'!
The Eagles If only for Witchy Woman. Catchiest chorus ever. Right up there with Song 2 and We Will Rock You. Woohoo! Witchy woman!
Gorillaz: Meh. Everything the Gorillaz do is great but we got the three most memorable.
Goldeneye 007: Bleh!
Kamelot: There is only one good symphonic metal band...
Lamb of God Oh shit yes.
Led Zeppelin: Look people I wanna get the Led out just as much as you but it ain't happenin' 'til Page and Plant are dead. Just drop it already. And you can't kill Plant. He did that kickass album with Alison Kraus so he deserves another 10 years at least.
Limozeen: Why stop there? Give us all of Strong Bad Sings and Other Type Hits! I wanna sing Moving Very Slowly! And Circles! And so many others!
Los Lonely Boys: Damn and you were on a role too. Combo breaker!
Meshuggah: Never hears them but their name sounds like someone trying to "more sugar" while puking. Am I getting the general vibe? :P
Metallica God no. Just...please no. More Megadeth maybe but no Metallica. I'm not one of those "They're not hardcore anymore," kinda people either. They sound bad. Like they're trying really hard.
Muse: Plz HMX!?!
Nickelback: I hate you. "More girls would probably play," NO! NO THEY WOULDN'T! You know who what girls listen to Nickelback? The ones who, while everyone's playing RB, they just stand on the sidelines getting hammered saying "I just like to watch," and passing out after 3 hours. These women are no fun. Avoid them at all cost.
Nightwish; ...and here they are. This is the only good symphonic metal band. Tarja's new solo band is a distant second but even without Tarja Nightwish is still the only good symphonic metal band. For some reason they just get it right. Maye because they're Finnish. I dunno.
Nubuo Uematsu I would fucking kill for One Winged Angel (Advent Children Version).
Off The Zodiac: Your band, eh? Why not give RBN a shot?
A Perfect Circle: Meh.
Pink Floyd: While a little more realistic than LedZep pretty much the same deal.
Primus: Tommy the Cat and the South Park theme song would be great. Which reminds me you're missing a grand oppurtunity to plug in a request for America, Fuck Yeah by not mentioning D.V.D.A.
Rush: Yes please. Moving Pictures sucks.
Seether: No.
Shinedown: No.
Stone Temple Pilots: No.
Tenacious D: Wow. Epic come back. Yes please.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra: Be interesting to say the least. They do have my favorite Spanish musician and incredible bagpipe player Christina Pato occasionally.
Type-O Negative: Meh.
The Who: I dunno. On the one hand I'd love to see any full album from them. Hell even It's Hard would do it for me. But at the same time we do still have in-fucking-sane amounts of Who.
Van Halen: Please no. Oh god please no. Eddie Van Halen is a douche, the band is stale, the guitar style is overrated as fuck, and they spiraled downhill like a fucking kamikaze after Jump. An they only sounded kind of decent before Jump.
Old classics: All those old classics are great (well minus Elvis). I'm a little upset they get honorably mentioned and not mainlisted.
Classical: There are plenty wonderful takes on Flight of the Bumblebee and Moonlight Sonata I'd kill for.
Not a bad list. Not bad at all. Since I've already got my own list going on my blog I won't list too many but a few that I know won't be appearing on my blog:
*The Cranberries [Because they're the best band ever]
*Mastodon
*L7
*The Strokes
*The Rolling Stones
*AC/DC
*David Bowie
*The White Stripes
*Yngwie Malmsteen
*The Zombies
*Black Sabbath
*Aerosmith
*Creedence Clearwater Revival
*Queen
*Queens of the Stone Age
I'll stop there. There's a bunch more on me blog. Also as far as your "Rock Band is better than all those Guitar Hero's," comment if you haven't given it a try you should at least rent Guitar Hero 5. It is fucking fantastic. I swear on my Rock Band fanboy heart you will not be disappointed.
I'll own up to the fact I'm a Rock Band fanboy. The main reason is all of the iterations that Activision (I hope I'm getting that right) keeps putting out. The core gameplay of GH5 is good, save for a few things (not a fan of the bar, but that's me). I just don't feel like shelling out for so much with every game. I think you know what I mean.
Thanks for the comments. And as soon as I figure out how to use RBN, I will have to do that. Considering the Internet I get out here, and my laziness to not hook up my systems online in the one room that has internet, I think I'll wait. Actually can't wait to go back to school for that reason.
Well it's not like they're making you buy all those editions, ya know? I mean those spin-offs, like retail RB track packs, are all targeted to specific audiences and usually drop below the $50 mark in a month or so. I could go on and on all night but basically the spin-offs don't bother me. They make perfect sense in a way.
I dunno. I'm a Guitar Hero defender just as much as I am a Rock Band fanboy because I have sympathy for Neversoft getting GH pushed on them and I dunno if you've noticed but the lines between GH and RB are blurring quickly. It's getting to the point where supporting only one is almost hypocrisy if you can't back it up.
I mean there's fanboyism and then there's blind fanboyism.
Guitar Hero: Smash Hits? Yeah I wish we would get more of the ol' GH songs in RB. We do have quite a few though. We got Woman, More Than A Feeling, You Got Another Thing Comin', Killer Queen, etc.
Did you know Even Rats launches with RBN? I really hope we get Radium Eyes too. That song nearly brought me to tears.
i lost faith when i saw you put Nickelback
you won me back with your desire for Primus. The live recording of Tommy the Cat is my pick for the ultimate RB track.
Many Primus songs would be great. Also thought of others. Dtoid techno remixes for DJ Hero. The Holocaust song vs. the "My Bum" song. Could be hilarious.
