I think you guys missed the point of the theme. That may me my fault though. Allow me to elaborate.

When I personally speak of a build, songs like Impetus from yesterday's post instantly pop into my mind. The song opens, nothing but a lonely drum, doing it's best to get things started. Then, suddenly, an explosion of sound, smashing your ears with the suddenness. Then, the bass comes into play, giving a second layer atop the sturdy platform the drum has built. The guitar feedback slowly rises in anticipation of the construction of the third layer of this musical house of cards. Suddenly, the guitars are set and the music begins getting faster, about to crumble under it's own weight, faster the drums are straining, switching up it's routine to try to keep balance, but the guitars only want to be heard, faster, faster, faster, the house can't take much more.

OHHHHHHHHHH IMPETUS!!!!

The force of the vocals sends the house crashing down, and upon impact, the cards spontaneously combust into PURE ROCK! THE METAL, IT LIVES!!!!! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Ahem........sorry. So, do you see what I'm getting at? Most of the songs suggested were just a bunch of ambient noise followed by the real song. That's not what I meant by a big build. I'm thinking more traditionally, each instrument slowly building on top of the other, until something gives it the starting push it needs. The impetus, if you will. So today's song is really only here because I felt this is the one that best fit the description. Got anything better?

Great tune, great band...

Stone Roses - I am The Resurrection, another example... I think anyway.

If I understand what your getting at, La Mer by Nine Inch Nails I think is a great example. The song starts out with a piano playing a simple beat, then guitar, drum ect. are added to it, and then they all fade out. There aren't any words, but it really is a great song, one of my favs.

As I alreasy posted yesterday, I think "Somewhat Damaged" by Nine Inch Nails is a good example. Starts quietly with just some guitar string plucking and slowly adds new instruments and layers over 2-3 minutes and then explodes into a wall of noise and agressive lyrics until you're "too fucked up to care anymore", just like to song suggests.
