I started school again today, and, to put it frankly, it sucked ass. Sure it was great to see my friends again, but now I've got a ton of projects over the horizon that I'm already freaking out about. Fun.
Anyway, on to the theme, which was suggested by Daxelman. This week, as you may have already figured out, is dedicated to dead artists or bands that called it quits after one or more members died. Pretty simple, although Hendrix was the only artist or band that I knew for a fact. I'm going to need you help to finish off the week.
Jimi Hendrix is, even nearly 40 years after his death in 1970 at the age of 27, one of the most loved and respected acts in rock history. Hendrix often favored raw overdriven amplifiers with high gain and treble and helped develop the previously undesirable technique of guitar feedback. Hendrix was born on November 27, 1942, in Seattle, Washington, USA, while his father was stationed at an Army base in Oklahoma. Hendrix got into trouble with the law twice for riding in stolen cars. He was given a choice between spending two years in prison or joining the Army. Hendrix chose the latter and enlisted on May 31, 1961. After completing boot camp, he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division and stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. His commanding officers and fellow soldiers considered him to be a sub-par soldier: he slept while on duty, had little regard for regulations, required constant supervision, and showed no skill as a marksman. For these reasons, his commanding officers submitted a request that Hendrix be discharged from the military after he had served only one year. He then began playing music in bands with the likes of Little Richard and other big names of the era. The rest is history.
My friend knows a guy who only likes bands and artists who are dead. I guess ZServ is the opposite. But hey, you like what you like, who am I to judge?
The Grateful Dead could be a good choice. Everyone should listen to a bunch of psychedelic acid rock now and then.
@Zserv
Respect Kurt Cobain dude. He added more to the music scene than those snot-nosed "punks" you speak of. Msg me if you need some skoolin' about today's music scene.
Shit, I started school too.pretty much everyone in my grade was running on about 2-3 hours of sleep. It's only monday, and I'm already flipping out on trying to figure out how I'm going to study for all my finals.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Probably the most famous suicide in music history.

I like the topic though, sublime should definitely be included!
Louie Armstrong?
TuPac?
Biggie?
And Yeah, Nirvana and Sublime are some more if you need it.
The guy's a legend, even though he was fucked up on the head.
You could do The Rolling stones, the members are on the verge of dying, collectively. ;) :P
