Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I like that song. Not their best though.
If you want to push this as a community discussion more than just a feature blog, than it might be a good idea to post some thoughts of your own for each track to encourage the community discussion. not bagging you here, just giving my opinion.
oh, and this was the first song I ever learnt to play on guitar years ago, so it clearly fucking rocks my ass.
Although I'm not knocking what you're doing. It's a decent idea for a blog.
Suggestion 1: Maybe put the name of the band in the title?
Suggestion 2: Maybe feature bands/musicians that are less known. I'd probably more likely to click play. And maybe if you put a section that lists more mainstream bands that are similar in sound to the featured band. Something along the lines of "if you like RatM, you'll like [random band]"
Just saying, I'd rather listen to music I haven't been exposed to.
Leftover Crack
Born to Die - Addressing the meaning of life. Now before you go thinking I'm a nihilist, take this line into consideration: "it's all on you| reality, it's what ya do| it's what ya make| the truth in lies| the freedom dies, the mind it numbs, the spirit| breaks with all our rights". Life is what YOU make of it... we're just born to die, you've got to decide what to do in the meantime.
Super Tuesday - Addressing the "day everything changed". For more info, check this out. I'd summarize for you, but this issue is too complicated for a tiny paragraph in a blog post. I'll just say that maybe we (as a nation) should look in the mirror to find the root of some of our problems, and leave you to the video.
Rock the 40 oz. - Leftover Crack's only OFFICIAL video. Kind of their unofficial anthem... it's been recorded a number of different times, starting back with their first album (when they were Choking Victim) "No Gods, No Managers", with the latest recording being on their most recently released full length record "Fuck World Trade".
Gang Control - Addressing the true purpose of police: population control and protection of property. LoC has plenty of songs that address these issues, but this one focuses mainly on the population (or gang) control aspect of the police force's function in society. This video's youtube page also has the added bonus of having a lot of helpful and informative information about the law and your rights when it comes to defending yourself against police brutality.
Life is Pain - Addressing the state of global population, and why you need to make a stand to change things NOW. The video is definitely strange... it's an AMV using this song and Trigun footage. How they relate, I can't say as I haven't seen enough Trigun to know it's broader themes, but it's the only video for the song that isn't a poor quality live recording.
If you feel that music should be about more than sex, bling, and how sad you are that your g/f left you, but you also want a (crack rock steady) beat that you can bounce around to, then Leftover Crack is the band for you. They're not your every day punk band; combining elements of ska and metal into their songs, (additionally, songs off of their latest album experiment with pianos and orchestral stringed instruments such as cellos and violins) they innovate the genre with fresh new sounds that some would say may even defy classification in much the same way people feel about Primus.
I know I sound like a walking commercial for these guys, but I really love their music and beyond that love the messages presented in the lyrics. Stza is a man cut from my own cloth... being able to personally relate most with the lyrical line from Via San Dios that goes "I care so much and not at all about every living breath| The sadness of this sentience; a sentence to my death". If you're even remotely into rock and roll, then give these guys a listen... they might open your eyes, change the way you think about things... maybe even change your life.
Example, I LOVE Tegan and Sara, an indie band from Canada, that I'm not quite sure if they've got exposure in the States, but I'd talk about how they've got amazing rhythm and beats in Back In Your Head, and how despite being identical twins and all, Sara's more high pitch voice, contrasts very nicely to Tegan's more raspy one in Monday Monday Monday.
Something to that extent mate!
;)
