Hey Ron did you hear about MGS4 on the 360?

Yes, a long long time ago far far away. I don’t really want to say anything about it. I am tired of it. But since Grim used my amazingly badass unicorn pic, I will make a brief statement.

Yes. Yes I have heard. No I am not amazed. I wrote about this shit long before it was trendy. I don’t plan on having a party when the fucking game gets announced. If I made shit up then I would have a party. I know and have known its coming. Why in the fuck would it shock me at all when MGS4 hit’s the 360? It won’t.

It is honestly tough for me to put this into words. Im not really a journalist and never wanted to be one. I write like I am talking to my friends and cant help but add in jokes. This was my mistake with the whole “MGS4 debacle.” I added jokes and didn’t predict how stupid people really were. Would it amaze people if they knew I sat in and played a tech demo of MGS4 running on the Xbox 360? I am a fucking Market Research Analyst! What in the fuck do you think I do for a living? My career is based off of finding shit out before everyone else. The problem is that I don’t have a backbone as a writer and I like to be funny. Does that make me any less correct?



There is a big difference between “I’m guessing, I predict, and confirmed.” It is tough to relay this in writing. Some of you that follow Dtoid and more closely, my cblogs know that I “predict” things much much further in advance than most people. There is a very large list of things that I was the first to write about. My writing is shit so I rarely get credited. Well, that and the fact that I predict big things very early. Did you know that the Final Fantasy announcement at E3 from Microsoft was not shocking to me? The only thing that surprised me about it was that they announced it at E3 and not at TGS. Do you know why I wasn‘t blown away that it was coming to the 360? Because I only told Nick, Niero, Colette, Teddy Gage (BHZ), Joe Burling, and a few other LAST FUCKING YEAR and not everyone. Why wouldn’t I tell everyone? Because I didn’t feel like listening to all the bullshit over again that I have gone through with MGS4, and also because Im not really a fucking journalist.

Most video game journalists are shit. A journalist doesn’t sit around at the water cooler talking about rumors and then writing about them. A journalist should do research and not just spout off his or her opinion on something. Good writing does not mean you are a good journalist. Please please please understand that. A good journalist should not be bias. Its fucking tough as a gamer who is also a games journalist to not have a bias against a company or a game. Example: Jim Sterling is a fucking awesome writer but, Jim Sterling is a terrible journalist. No offense to Jim. it’s a good thing. He is a funny guy and a passionate gamer. He cannot understand what journalism is because of internal bias. Jim’s writing is what entertains you. Not Jim’s investigative reporting. Nobody would read Jim’s work if he didn’t make it in his own way. You know who actually is a great journalist? You may not believe this, but Chris Grant from Joystiq is one of the best gaming journalists that I have met. But, I cant imagine Chris trying to write something funny like Jim. That’s the rub. You can’t do both very easily. I on the other hand, am a fucking unbelievably bad writer, terrible at journalism, love to be sarcastic and funny, and honestly, one of the best Matlocks in the history of this industry. I know what I am good at and I know what I suck at. I’m so sarcastic about what I do that I unknowingly refer to Market industry research and “Matlockery.”



This is my conflict. As a dude that is a real gamer I get excited when I find out something big early. I really think gamers should know. Its not about breaking news or being known as a great investigative journalist. Its about all of the dumb shit I read in forums and hear every time I go into a Gamestop. There is also a part of me that loves saying “Old!” every time news gets announced. Nick told me once that I should just be the dude at the press conferences that yells OLD! every time they announce something. I just wrote that twice didn't I? see I am a shit journalist.

One last thing. When I make predictions its very very rare that I know WHEN these things will come true. If you go back and look at things I “Predicted” you will see that over time they all come true. Hell, I announced MegaMan 9 in a web comic. I thought it would get announced at the pre-E3 Capcom Captivation event or at Tokyo Gameshow. Yes I was wrong about when but it didn’t change the fact that I was 100% right about the game. Side note: over a month after I had played Megaman 9 some random fuck finds the Aussie trademark for it and got all of the credit.

My friends all know that concerning MGS4, I have always always stood by “Sometime in spring or summer of 2009” as my “when is it coming” answer. There is no “Proof” that I can relay to you about its release date. The one solid chuck of evidence I found long ago was the original contract between Sony and Konami concerning exclusivity. Yes I know that may shock you because none of the wannabe game journalists in this industry aside from a few would think that that would be a smart document to have. Actually, all of them because nobody found it but me. Originally that contract ended in September of 2008. This would lead one to believe that MGS4 could in fact go multi-console at some point after September of 2008. OK If you are an idiot, you are already preparing your “But Ron its October 2008 and its not out and there is no announcement.” To this I reply. I fucking hate you. I hate you. I hate you. Please at least finish out high school and try for a Jr. college. You owe it to your kids not to raise them to be as dumb as you. Please try! Another reason to make the assumption is because of Konami’s current stock price or company value. Fresh off the heals of MGS4’s PS3 launch the company is less than half of its 1 year high and looking grim. No, it isn’t the price of oil or Bush that is causing it.

When things like this happen, what do you think a company should do? Should they
A. Remember that Sony makes MGS4 like Nintendo makes Mario.
B. Stick to the exclusivity contract even though the terms have ended.
C. Don’t make more money by selling more games.
Or D. I fucking hate the fact that I have to explain shit that is this dumb.

And my final indicator that MGS4 might be coming to the 360, could have something to do with the fucking fact that [redacted]That was something I should have said publicly over a year ago but couldn’t. I do not work for Dtoid and I don’t really care anymore. So fuck it. There were also other industry folks in the room from TV and websites. They [redacted]Some people might think that was smart and give me "Mad props." Instead I write a “Snakes on a valley” joke in my MGS4 post and idiots think they debunked it because of that? Did the joke in my Megaman 9 post somehow debunk it? Also, the reality was that I [redacted]



Bottom Line: I don’t even give a fuck if MGS4 comes out on the 360 anymore. I am so sick and tired of people saying “Kojima says IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN” when not once has Kojima actually said it. Not one fucking time has the dude said anything more than “This game is being developed specifically for the PS3” or “I am sick of all of the 360 rumors.” If you cannot understand why that is not the same as “Its is never coming to the 360” then you are a fucking idiot and/or a shit journalist. Yes I know you have seen tons of sites report on things that Kojima said “in so many words” but that is not fact. Sterling wrote a few weeks ago “Peter Molynuex says that Fable 2 isn’t possible on the PS3” when in fact Peter Molynuex DID NOT SAY THAT! Here is word for word what he said
“Some of the stuff in Fable II we're doing with co-op is only possible because of the way that LIVE is structured... Whereas the PS3 doesn't seem to be quite so mature on that side. They haven't got quite the same infrastructure and service but, you know, yeah, I'd love to get games on every platform.“
At no point did he say it “wasn’t possible” meaning in any way that the game itself wouldn‘t run on a PS3. It is possible. Jim’s title gave the story a misleading context. Passionate gaming writers often do this stuff. Journalists don’t. Dtoid is “For hardcore gamers and by hardcore gamers.” Would you even be here if it wasn’t? That’s why the fucking site exists. It doesn’t say “For hardcore gamers by people that went to school for journalism.” Hardcore gamers don’t give a fuck about journalism. You don’t either. Sorry. I’m calling you out. [edited for Wardrox... I mean "you " as in you the reader and gamer at this point]You care about having an opinion because goddamnit you know your shit. You have played games and YOU are just as much of an expert on gaming as me or as Niero, or as anyone else. If you gave a fuck about journalism you wouldn’t even give a shit if the game was coming out on the Nintendo 64. You want controversy and opinions. You want to fully agree or troll.

MGS4 is “possible” on the Wii but not “likely.’ The reason Fable 2 isn’t going to be on the PS3 is the same reason Halo isn’t going to be on the PS3. Also, It has little to do with the technical implications. Fable 2 cant do some of the things it can do on the 360 on a PS3 because of the integration of Xbox Live and not because of GPU’s or RAM. You also don’t want to research and understand that a Sony PS3 exclusive lost could result in much higher profits for a game company than a 360 game losing the exclusivity to Sony. MGS4 on the 360 a year later would do great in sales. Bioshock on the PS3 isn’t going to cause any midnight launch party madness though.

Oh no. You don’t want that though. Something has to be better. That is the reality though. Its just not entertaining and it doesn’t easily give you anything to side with. Jim is awesome at giving you a side. A lot of you fucking idiots won’t understand that I am not laying into Jim. I am making a point. Jim would be “Hey opinionated British snaky dude, give me another beer” at the local pub if it wasn’t for the fact that he wrote this way. Brian Crecente would be “Hey pirate hair guy, easy on the onions” he he wrote like Jim.



Bottomer Line: Gamers are fickle. They have PC’s that do not have search engines that can go past 2 weeks. They don’t think, hmmm, maybe I will look back to find out that Ron is always right about things he has “Confirmed” but wrong about the dates sometimes. You forget things and move on to the next battle. That IS what you want. Troll wars are awesome and feel good. Nobody wants to fight because at E3 3 years ago Sony promised a boomerang controller and dual HDMI, bla bla OLD! People want a new fight all the time. MGS4 has been great in rehashing that fight and that’s why every few months for over a year now I get “OMG did you see the news on MGS4” messages all day long. I still think the same fucking things I KNEW long ago. It has not changed.

Bottomest Line: I hope MGS4 doesn’t come to the 360 now. Actually I don’t even fucking care enough to hope. Here is what I am going to deal with when it happens. Nobody crediting me when the press release goes out. No public apology from the assholes that fucked with me repeatedly. Wannabe journalists answering comments from people that I know and saying shit like “well fuck, he got lucky and guessed something and got it right” or “who couldn’t have guessed MGS4 was coming to the 360” and bla fucking bla bla. You know who didn’t guess? You, fuck bag journalist. You didn’t guess until after it was trendy and it became fact. You don’t even have too either. Gamers are fickle remember. They will never look back at the posts that called me out on Digg and everywhere else. Why in the fuck would they? The same asshole that makes 8 “OMG MGS4 is coming to 360” posts can make 8 “OMG MGS4 rumor debunked for 360” and nobody cares besides me. Gamers will read them all. Journotrash will get paychecks. The world is happy.

Finally: Yes. I did hear that a Japanese investment research company made comments about MGS4. If I remember correctly, I posted something about that awhile back. If google could go back more than 2 weeks I would look it up but Im too busy playing video games from the fucking future.

...New Castlevania game coming to the PS3 and 360? 100% True. The current name is 'Dark Abyss' and I cant confirm more than 20% on who is developing it. I have a few ideas, but a few is a few too many. Last year I found out about this game but could not find anything to confirm it. I have that now. I dont really have a strong idea about when and where they will announce it but I can guess that it will be slated for release winter 09 - spring 10. I admit, thats a safe guess.
