Hello all fellow D-Toiders!
I'd like to send a request for help from the D-Toid community... And no, it will not cost you any money. Just some time.
So I'm a college student, and I'm in my 5th and last year of my undergraduate program (an extra year has been tacked on because I've switched majors a few times and I transferred schools). This semester, I have the pleasure of being part of a course called "Writing Online," and one of my tasks throughout the semester will be to maintain a wordpress blog (because it's free).
I got to chose my subject, and I decided I wanted my blog to be all about sort of trying to expose the gamer experience to the non-gamer, hopefully to combat negative stigma that U.S. culture places on gamers. I feel that we often get portrayed as any combination of the following: lazy, anti-social, violent, teenaged, macho-male, weakling-male, or any other number of negative ideas you've probably had placed on you by SOMEONE in your life as a gamer.
So, I'm not sure a lot of people will be reading the blog, but I do know that my class will eventually get around to looking at it, at least. I plan to open a section called "Meet the Gamer" or something to that effect, though I think it will be called "Meet the D-Toider" since I only plan to ask for help here.
Keep in mind that the point of my blog is not to alienate non-gamers from us, but rather to try and demonstrate that we're just normal folks, too... So if you'd like to help, I would strongly encourage that no one say anything completely negative about non-gamers. It's my own view that everyone's got problems, and gamers are no different -- but that's no reason we can't be proud of how we chose to spend our time with videogames anyways.
I don't know exactly how I'll collect your responses just yet... I may open a new gmail account specifically for that end.
For now, I just kind of want to field everyone's interests with this idea. Please comment away if you think this might be a good idea or you have some ideas already that you'd like to share with me. It's my first time blogging, so I don't really have an established "voice" yet, as you'll probably gather from the few posts that are already up and the general lack of solid formatting on the blog so far. You can check it out here: pressinbuttons.wordpress.com
I'll check back later and see what you all think!

(oh, and my husband is 52 and just took up gaming about 2 years ago... I might be able to get him to add something as well!)
Hit me up: Kpawlowski [at] co-optimus.com (all-for co-op gaming, which is social in and of itself.)

Just as a forwarding note going into this... I don't expect it to get big. Would be nice, but I don't feel I have the professional skills to really sell it or anything. But the people it will reach for certain -- the people in my class -- might be interested to hear from you all later in the semester when we look into one another's blogs.
Anyhow, again, I send my gratitude for the response so far!
Again, the URL for the blog is pressinbuttons.wordpress.com. It's still rough, but feel free to check it out any time. Not all submissions will be featured on the front page, as I am required each week to do an original post of my own... Most of your submissions will be available on a separate section on the blog, but I will try to notify any readers about updates to the contributions section.
Thank you all very much, ladies and gents of Dtoid! Again, this is the only place I'll be asking for such contributions, so I will put a link to Dtoid for anyone that gets curious, and I'll make sure to note that all contributions come from this community specifically.
Anyway I can help you let me know man.
